18 Cam Bros 1 9 18898 20868 90.56 4

The Modra show rolled on unimpeded during the first bye round but a strong contender might have emerged in the form of UglyDucklings. The Ducks smashed out an impressive 2210 in the bye round which is massive for this time of year and a score that would have beaten all comers in the Hogg this week. DaHeat and Some Can’t also bounced back to form with the Cants looking good for a top four spot with DaHeat still needing a bit of work to do to avoid the drop.

Ingle Farm Felons are looking a more finals contender by the week as they disposed of an inconsistent Choking Tuna in short order. Frosteye has moved into the top eight while King Kiddy and SA Rapids are rapidly losing their earlier season form. Spud of the week award for Divvy IV this week goes to Robsquad who had a Barry Crocker as they were left out in the cold by Frosty.

High flying Modra took a bit of a tumble this week losing their first match in many weeks as the bye round took its toll. While Modra had trouble fielding a side no such problem faced Robsquad who posted an impressive score on his way to rolling the ladder leaders. The big winners of the round were the teams who took advantage of Cravo’s week off. UglyDucklings are scoring very well at the moment and look a real premiership chance. They moved into the top four as did Ingle Farm Felons who are back to winning ways for the first time in many season. Some Cant has also looking steady.

Choking Tuna moved into the top eight after swatting aside King Kiddy while Frosteye also made an appearance after a comprehensive win over the Crewe who slipped out of the top four. At the arse end Cam Bros firmed as a spoon chance after falling two games behind second last after Power Failure proved too strong for struggling DaHeat.

Mods is sitting pretty at the top of the ladder having gotten back on the winners list and Cravo should go on and make the finals from here at the very least. From second on down to 13th though it's your guess as good as mine as to how this league might finish up. UglyDucklings are leading the way with the scoring after 12 matches and they've found some consistency and look good things to challenge strongly for this premiership. The Felons are also enjoying some winning ways in this company as they seek to be readmitted to Division III.

Teams in the middle face a real dog fight. The youngsters Kind Kiddy and SA Rapids appear to be falling from favour while Choking Tuna and this week's top scorer King Cobwebs appear to be on the march. Wingards Crewe appear to have jumped the shark so that could be another top eight spot up for grabs which is good news for Robsquad who refuse to die and have started winning again.

There are five teams currently in the relegation dogfight with HereComesTheSuns the side out of the red zone with five to play. Cam Bros just about booked the wooden spoon when they suffered a low scoring loss to fellow strugglers Go Tigers. PowerFailure look to be the best bet to challenge the Suns with the other bottom sides looking good things for the drop.

Division IV was another Hogg league where the ladder leaders got rolled as Mods was smashed by the formerely struggling SA Rapids. Choking Tuna was the unlucky coach to cop the second highest score of the round and still lose as Some Can't smashed out a truly impressive 2380 for the round. The chasing pack all took advantage of Mods' slip up as the Felons, UglyDucks and Frosteye all joined the Cants on the winners list.

The middle of the ladder is an absolute logjam at the minute with 13th ranked Devils two games behind 6th ranked Wingard's Crewe. It's going to be a very tight run home into the finals from here for many teams. I reckon the top five all make it and Tuna would be really stiff now Casey's team is starting to take shape.

From Go Tigers down it's alla bout avoiding the drop to the cripple fight division and I think PowerFailure is the side that might avoid the drop. There is plenty of work to do for the other sides but somehow low scoring Go Tigers keeps bobbing up with the odd win.

Mods has maintained his two game advantage at the top of the ladder but the challengers are firming behind him as Cravo’s scoring has slowed up appreciably. Some Can’t has been a team to watch at times this season and the Cant’s smashed out a pretty impressive 2414 to end the winning run of the Felons who slipped to fourth. Frosteye has been solid in the winter months and a 250 point victory over the battling Cobwebs saw the tall cool one at its highest chart position since 1988.

The top eight almost looks settled as long as 8th ranked Choking Tuna tightens up his defence. For the season straight week Casey coughed up a big score as Brodlach Bombers topped the league with his 2435. That’s twice in a week now for the Tuna so a bit unlucky there. I don’t see any legitimate challengers outside of the eight as Robsquad dropped a game to last placed Cam, Red Devils aren’t scoring enough and the rest look cooked. It’s not looking all that sharp for the bottom four as Go Tigers has shocked the world and started scoring points, now that is most unlike Stewie so there’s just something so Essendon all about that.

18 Cam Bros 2 13 27384 30462 89.90 8

After hitting the snooze button the last few weeks a full strength Modraaaaa smashed out an impressive 231 point win over the King Cobwebs. Mods partied like it was 1993 with a 2516 that topped the scoring for the league and put the challengers on notice that they will be a force to contend with next month when the finals come. Frosteye and Some Cant look to be the sternest challengers with the Frosty one being the third successive team to post a large score against the luckless Choking Tuna who fell out of the finals. The time for Casey has come now and only wins will do after three pretty unlucky losses, although they were never in the hunt against Frosty.

Tuna's loss was very much Red Devils gain as the demonic ones find themselves in the top eight with two rounds to play. The heat will be on for the devils though as SA Rapids and the puzzling Robsquad are right on their trail so some big matches coming up in the last two rounds as the top seven look pretty much home. The relegation battle is still alive as well. Go Tigers can't change their stripes so quickly so everyone except Cam Bros has a chance to escape the drop next season. Tiges need one more and it's shut the door.

Seven sides have booked their finals spot with only the seemingly indestructible Robsquad yet to book their place. Down the bottom you can say goodbye to the bottom three sides who will all be relegated. Despite having a very poor season the Cam Bros managed to help shape the eight when they put the skids under SA Rapids who couldn't stay ahead of Robquad. Choking Tuna meanwhile kept their season alive by beating the top side as Modra became the first team in a month not to rack up a big score against the Tuna.

The big match this week was between contenders Frosteye and Ingle Farm Felons with both sides turning on the power and Frosty recording a 30 point win in a high quality encounter in which both sides topped 2400. While those two sides were duking it out, Some Can't was busy smashing the Red Devils and that percentage booster saw them move to second ahead of the Frosty one. Meanwhile the Devils fell all the way to eleven as a result of the heavy defeat.

Round 17 matches

Go Tigers v Some Cant
Wingard's Crewe v Robsquad
Brodlach Bombers v Red Devils
SA Rapids v PowerFailure
Frosteye v KingKiddy
HereComesTheSuns v Cam Bros
Modraaaaaa! v Ingle Farm Felons
King Cobwebs v UglyDucklings
DaHeat v Choking Tuna

The Verdict

After threatening to throw away the minor premiership for several weeks, Mods will finally succeed in his quest after they lose this week to the Ingle Farm felons. Some Can't will grab top spot over Frosteye after both get big wins with Mods down to third. Wingard will round out the top four which means Robsquad get knocked out of the top eight as Choking Tuna get the job done against DaHeat. SA Rapids still a big chance but I reckon it is Tuna who will get the chocolates and make the eight. Relegation time for HereComesTheSuns I think as I'm backing Cam Bros to finish the season with another win.

Frosteye and Some Can't look the premiership fancies but Mods needs to beat an impressive Ingle Farm Felons to force them to play off in week one. Instead I reckon that they will end up playing in the Grand Final. Remember lads that Wingard is already in Divvy II so he can't go up.

Review

SA Rapids has pulled off a mighty boilover by storming to the Division IV title after coming from as far back as 10th after 14 rounds. The Rapids looked like they had hit the rocks at one stage and only just pinched a finals berth against an unlucky Choking Tuna in the last round. Modra was another top side that failed to fire a shot in the finals as they went out in straight sets and Frosteye didn't fare all that much better even though they managed to earn a promotion to Division III by two points over the luckless Ingle Farm Felons.

In the last of the minor rounds, HereComesTheSuns pulled off the great escape to send Go Tigers down with the bottom three sides long earmarked or disposal. Meanwhile, in promotionland It was Frosteye, Some Can't and Minor Premier Modra who will go up to Division III along with the champions SA Rapids. Losing Grand Finalist Wingard's Crewe was not eligible for promotion as they participated in Hogg Division II this year but it's been Mattee G's best season of Hogg by some distance this year.

Congratulations SA Rapids, the 2019 Hogg Division IV Premiers!

Well done Rapids! I've never seen such high scores at the business end of the year. Usually folks are out of trades and fighting donuts, not reaching above 2600!!
