The big match this week was the wycbloods jnr derby between Liamscrows and Harryshawks. The Hawkers are unbeaten and flying while the Crows are the league's top scorers so far. It was Harry who ended up with the bragging rights though after the Hawkers saluted with a 43 point victory. As has been happening in recent weeks though the kids have been put in the shade by others and once again it was the Hooligans who are now the Raging hot favourites for the title despite the Hawks' unbeaten run.

In top eight news The Hotshots were well beaten by the pearsss and they dropped out of the top eight after Brettsrazorbacks cleaned up against an unmanned opponent. The bots have finally filled the bottom six places in the league after Mimiminy Crickets finally started chirping. West Coast Winners continued to fly high at the expense of twe who are a game off the pace at the moment.

We are about to enter a strange period in Divvy V as six teams will be offering up complete walkovers during the bye period. For any team who gets the walkover they get a decent percentage booster and the biggest winner of this phenomenon this week was The Hotshots who bolted into the top eight with a massive percentage booster. A couple of weaker teams in Bman’s boys and Miminy Crickets were the other beneficiaries.

In the real matches there were some decisive results that could determine finals placing. The junior wycbloods smashed their opponents this week with Liamscrows smashing the Raging Hooligans who appeared to be hampered more than most due to this week’s by structure. Harry meanwhile absolutely flogged the West Coast Wonders and PORT FOR NEVER also failed to fire a shot against Can’t Coach this who went to third. It was a crucial game for the elephants who just had to beat the razorbacks if they wanted to charge into the finals and even though he went down on the ladder that was a crucial win.

It was a victory for unmanned space craft this week as the bye round from hell caused havoc in Division V. Liamscrows lost to his favourite team Adelaide while twe’s relief at no longer being the only coach to lose to an unmanned side was tempered somewhat as he dropped his second match to a bot team as twe was rolled by Hawthorn, who didn’t even play that well.

In the matches that matter harry handed out a hiding to Brett to remain unbeaten and on top of the ladder. Can’t Coach this got the job done against struggling Mim and West Coast Wonders hit back after a disappointing loss the week before to put the suddenly out of form Hooligans on the skids. NEVER jumped up to 6th after Liam’s shock loss with a solid win over the Hotshots while Bman’s boys look to be back in town all of a sudden as they rolled Claire in a bit of an upset.

At the end of the 'walkover season' Division V has been divided up into separate mini competitions. The top seven sides are fighting it out for a place in the top four with all of them assured of a finals place, even five weeks out. From eight down to 12 they are fighting it out for one finals spot that is left over.

With so many unmanned space flights in this league there were only a few key clashes. twe kept their finals hopes alive with a percentage boosting win over a disappointing Bman's boys. As an added bonus for the elephants, The Hotshots got rolled by 12th ranked Mim to leave the door open for an eleventh hour reprieve after some shocking losses earlier in the season. The Joker has been hating life during the byes but he came good in the last round to smash Brettsrazorbacks in a result which leaves their participation in the finals a somewhat dubious prospect.

harryshawks remain unbeaten with Can't Coach this the nearest challenger but there might be a few dead rubbers to be played before the decisive matches which will come in August.

A lot of top of the ladder teams have lost this week in the Hogg with Division V being no exception as harryshawks lost their first game of the season to a fired up wonder elephants combination. Things did get any better for the other junior Wycblood either as the inform Can't Coach This posted an impressive 165 point win over Liamscrows. PORT FOR NEVER had a solid win over Clairespearsss with the PORTIES looking good things for the finals a month out.

Most of the teams fighting it out for eighth spot had wins but the losses of Liamscrows and the pearsss has opened up the door for the chasing pack. twe look like a strong challenger but wins to Bman, Razorbacks and Hotshots means that the elephants charge to the top eight will have to wait until at least another week but it was an important win for a side that is starting to generate some momentum.

Can't Coach This won the big match in Divvy V this week after they trounced fellow top four side West Coast Wonders in the match of the round. The Hawks that are harry's are still looking pretty comfy at the top but Can't Coach and Raging Hooligans remain the big threats. The Hooligans racked up an important win over twe who have to win at least two to make the eight from here you might think. PORT FOR NEVER were the kings of the scoring this week with a 2400 that smashed Essendon. All of the human players, even Miminy Crickets are a still a chance at the eight as Brettsrazorbacks aren't fooling anyone. Hotshots gave up their top eight spot with a Barry Crocker against Liamcrows and his percentage took a beating.

harryshawks are one win away from capturing the Division V minor premiership after they won the match of the round against the Raging Hooligans by 33 points last weekend. While the hawks haven't sealed the deal just yet they've delivered a blow to the highest scoring team in the league as the Hooligans fell out of the top four after FOR NEVER won convincingly over the struggling Bmans boys.

The Wonder Elephant (twe) has been threatening to make an appearance in the top eight and finally this week they make it as all of the other teams fighting out for the eight lost. Elephants charged into the eight after finally disposing of unmanned craft while Hotshots in particular have reason to be aggrieved after the West Coast Wonders lived up to their name and smashed out an impressive 2505 to top the league in scoring this week.

I reckon it's The Hotshots or twe for that last spot in the eight with the top seven preparing for August.

Three sides bowed out this week as Miminy Crickets, Bman's boys and The Hotshots all got rolled in important matches. The big match this week was when Brettsrazorbacks put a line through The Hotshots in an early Elimination Final. Bretty cleaned up the Hotshots by over three hundred points to remain the only side out of the top eight that can possibly sneak in to the finals. The only side in the to eight who can miss out is twe after they racked up a percentage booster in a regulation win against an unmanned craft.

Can't Coach This had a poor week scoring wise but dodged a bullet against an unmanned side but the other top sides all flexed their muscles. For the second week in a row the West Coast Wonders recorded an impressive score and they will prove to be a real handful for Morgs if he can't grab top spot next week. Raging Hooligans topped the scoring this week but it might be all to no avail when it comes to double chance calculations as the bye period was a real worry for the hooligans.

Round 17 Matches

Bman's boys v Miminy Crickets
Adelaide v Raging Hooligans
Geelong v PORT FOR EVER
Port Adelaide v harryshawks
Liamscrows v Essendon
Can't Coach This v twe
West Coast Wonders v Clairespearsss
The Hotshots v Hawthorn
Carlton v Brettsrazorbacks

The verdict

Four of the top five sides have winnable matches and it will be too little too late for the Hooligans as far as the double chance goes. West Coast Wonders are scoring very well in recent weeks and should account for the Pearsss. The big match is Can't Coach This up against twe. The elephants need to beat one of the best teams in the comp just to make the finals so this is the week they pay the price for losing to two unmanned teams throughout the season. Ironically, Brettsrazorbacks will be the team to take their spot by beating Carlton in the last round of the season.

Looking further ahead my prediction is that the Hooligans and the Wonders will overtake the kids and be the main contenders for this premiership.

Review

This league finally got serious once the finals series began because then the unmanned bots had no further part to play in the outcome. Most of the coaches who were of the human kind were of a pretty good standard so you needed a good win loss record to qualify here. The dominant team all season was wycbloods junior harryshawks who dominated the minor round to finish with a 16-1 record. Unfortunately the finals weren't wild about Harry and they bombed out in straight sets. Another top four side with a good win loss record was West Coast Wonders who also bombed out in straight sets and these two top sides missed out on promotions to Divvy IV.

Congratulations to SuperCoach (not just Hogg) rookie Morgan whose Can't Coach This won all three finals and smashed out an insane 2808 as grand final week once again peeled off some huge scores. I've been playing a decade and I've never cracked 2800 before so I admit to being a tad envious here. Morgs has earned himself not only a promotion but his name will be entered on to the Hogg honour board as a premiership winner, with a mention in the top ten scores of all time to go along with it.

Other teams to gain promotion included the runner up Liamscrows who overtook his brother in the finals but it the West Coast Wonders' promotion spot the crows snaffled. Fourth ranked PORT FOR EVER were seeded to get promoted and had a good enough finals series to earn promotion but did it the hard way by defeating the minor premier to get it. Raging Hooligans have been in Division V for ever and the Joker has finally earned his spot in Division IV when they upset the hawks in the finals.
