There are some very high scoring teams in this league and they all flexed their muscles in the last round in an excellent tune up for the finals. The match of the Hogg was played when THE FOG racked up an impressive 2473 to defeat the number one ranked team in the Hogg this year, The Far Callers. Ron Burgundy qualified for finals though because top four side Chops Clots were too good for Straycat Strut who had to settle for ninth after recovering from a 0-4 start to the season. While Strut was fighting for life and limb against the Clots, Herb had a much smoother passage into the eight with a three hundred point win over wooden spooners Killer Wombats. It was a bit hard on Frosty as well who had to face the mighty FNQ Trotters to get in. Such is the vagaries of a draw where not everyone plays everyone.

The Dukes were once again in the points and along with FOG and Far Callers, they represent the three heavy hitters in this league. FNQ Trotters, Reuter and as mentioned the Clots also scored well but perhaps the most important big score was sensationally carded by Cossi's Carnts who managed an excellent score to escape relegation at the eleventh hour. True North has been relegated along with the bottom three who have been in a bit of bother for some time. Finntastic is a former Divvy I side who will be in Divvy III next year but at least Matteeeeeee managed to avoid the spoon even though Greedy Guns finished their year with an unimpressive win against a battler.

Finals - Tips in bold.

QUALIFYING FINALS

THE FOG v Chops Clots
Reuter Goodnproper v The Dukes

ELIMINATION FINALS

FNQ Trotters v The Far Callers
JOBBY THE GOAT v Herbs N Spices

Congratulations to all finalists and good luck in finals this week.

Finals Week One

1st Qualifying Final
Chops Clots 2215
THE FOG 2095

2nd Qualifying Final
Reuter Goodnproper 2227
The Dukes 2091

1st Elimination Final
The Far Callers 2158
FNQ Trotters 2088

2nd Elimination Final
JOBBY THE GOAT 2101
Herbs N Spices 1960

The Minor Premier curse struck again in Division II (as it did in every Hogg league except Division V) as Chops Clots upset THE FOG to earn the week off. 2200 with eighteen players is pretty sauve supercoaching but the Clots did just that to clear away the FOG and force them into the toughest Semi Final in the whole Hogg next week. Reuter Goodnproper might have forgotten to do trades but he hasn't forgotten to win matches and having almost a full quiver of trades could be what lands him this premiership. The first job was to get by the extremely competitive Dukes and this was achieved with some style. It would be quite a flag to win over the top three players in the Hogg this season but the Rooters are looking good things right now. Someone who might not agree is Ron Burgundy. Ronnie won a flag and promptly retired before ending up in this division as a heap of Divvy I guys went AWOL. After a somewhat slow start the Far Callers are now scoring points for fun and they made light work of the FNQ Trotters in their knockout final. JOBBY has been about the place for most of the year and wound back the clock to the early months of the season with a big win over Herbs N Spices who finished a long way off the pace in that final.

Semi Finals - Tips in bold.

THE FOG v The Far Callers
The Dukes v JOBBY THE GOAT

This must be the most impressive line up Hogg semi finals ever. The first semi final between FOG and the Callers is a match up of the number 1 and number 2 ranked team in the Hogg this season. This means one of the best teams in the Hogg is going to fall at least two wins short of being promoted. It would be a disappointing end to such a high scoring season for the loser of this one. I reckon the Far Callers get the chocolates here. The writing was on the wall for FOG when they couldn't beat Straycat Strut a few weeks ago, a couple of weeks later Clots killed me so I reckon the FOG, despite scoring well enough to retain a high ranking, is losing their head to head edge. In the other final we have the number three ranked side The Dukes up against JOBBY. There was only three points in it from last week's score so I'm going on consistency here and for me that means selecting The Dukes to avoid FOG's predicted straight sets demise. What a cracking couple of finals as JOBBY is not out of place here even though the rankings suggest he is. Its the Callers and The Dukes for me.

Semi Finals

1st Semi Final
The Far Callers 2155
The FOG 2036

2nd Semi Final
JOBBY THE GOAT 2109
The Dukes 2030

The toughest semi finals in Hogg history have been run and won with two of the top three teams not even making it to the Preliminary Final in this extremely competitive league. THE FOG has been cleared by the Far Callers who have emerged as the best team in the Hogg and a hot favourite for the title with the Dukes and FOG out of the way. FOG has had a brilliant season and they aren't the first gun team to dominate the minor round but miss out on promotion. Only the Grand Final counts here so it's a tough old school. Full marks to JOBBY THE GOAT who went missing for a while there towards the back end of the minor round but now appear to be back wit a vengeance. Anything over 2100 this week is pretty good going so a massive result for GOAT as The Dukes bow out in straight sets after having a real hot streak at about the same time that JOBBY was struggling. Timing is everything in Division II and JOBBY is right in the frame now.

Preliminary Finals - Tips in bold.

1st Preliminary Final: Chops Clots v JOBBY THE GOAT
2nd Preliminary Final: Reuter Goodnproper v The Far Callers

It's not often you'd tip against two sides that won Qualifying Finals against top opposition but that's what I'm going to do here. JK's Rooters have been awesome this season after a horrible year in Division I last year but the Callers just look far too good. There's a lot to like about the Clots but I reckon JOBBY has timed his run to perfection here and he's done himself a big favour with the win over the Dukes and he dodges the Callers while he is at it. I reckon the GOAT gets the JOBBY done and qualifies for Division I along with The Far Callers.

Nearly made an almighty stuff up this week. Put Parker to the bench to take S-bergs 97 from the Crows as an EME... Parker then went & smashed out a 136... Snuck through to the big dance by 3 points. Very lucky!!
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

Preliminary Finals

1st Preliminary Final
Chops Clots 2199
JOBBY THE GOAT 2196

2nd Preliminary Final
The Far Callers 2321
Reuter Goodnproper 2243

When you get up this high in the Hogg Shield structure you have to make the grand final to be promoted so congratulations to @David Brent and @Ron Burgundy who won through a couple of very competitive Prelim Finals on the weekend. As Chops said above, he did everything he could to throw his final but managed to hang on anyway by a mere three points over a pretty unlucky JOBBY. The Far Callers meanwhile are the best team in the Hogg but JK's Rooters put up a pretty good fight but not quite good enough in the end. The Rooters must have been wondering where that form was last year when they couldn't win a chook raffle and got demoted from Divvy I. The winners though are going in the other direction.

Grand Final - Chops Clots vs. The Far Callers. Preview in Grand Final Thread.

Shot myself in the foot by not managing my trades well enough (Still have 4 left lol) but no shame in dropping the Callers, quality outfit. Best of luck to both GF participants and thanks for another enjoyable season Reberta.

Thought you were going to have me covered after the NM boys put in a poor performance. Coming into the last game I still thought Grundy, Greenwood and Rankin could score the 320 or so that you needed to get the W.

Rankine was the one I wanted to move on with a 3rd trade, not realising we were back to 2 lol oops .. Still unlikely that would have been enough though, playing Rivers instead of Day would have helped but hindsight's a wonderful thing. Well played bud, you got out of the blocks and I never felt like I was going to be able to catch ya. All the best in the Granny mate :D
