I put it down to three major factors.

1: I don't do enough research pre-season.
2: I'm crap at SC.
3: I have an uncanny knack of being able to select a player a day or two before he belts someone who tears a hammy.

My pre-season research involves googling ‘sample SuperCoach teams’

I tend to make the 8 and then go nowhere, can see myself dropping out of the 8 this week on %.

My finals aspirations are still alive, I require the following:

Fleece(7) to bet Zed(11)
Rapids(18) to beat Browny(13)
Mods(3) to beat Failed Creation(8)
Money Brawl(12) to beat the Ducks(10) narrowly
Felons(16) to beat Legends(9)

And of course, I need to beat the Right Nut.
HOGG SHIELD DIVISION V WINNER 2018.

The Willies made it a perfect 13 after thrashing major rival Some Can't who looked well short of the scoring needed to threaten for the title. A couple of other sides who did score well aren't even in the eight as Moneybrawl produced their best effort of the season to sensationally end Ugly Ducklings year with a high scoring, closely fought victory. Zed must be wondering how he missed the eight as well after beating a team that did make the finals by 400 points. To quote Michael Moore...how the **** did that happen?

In another classic match that had dire consequences for a couple of teams, FootyLegends scrambled into the top eight at the expense of Failed Creation when they saluted by 13 points in a match that sent Ingle Farm Felons down to Division IV next season. The Legends had relegation worries of their own earlier in the year so it's a fair effort by the Cub to make the eight. While all the talk is of the Willies the main competition may come from Duromine Dependent and possibly liamscrows who finished the season off in fine style. Modraaaaaa was not that impressive in the final round but they fashioned a victory of sorts which saw Cravo collect second spot on the ladder and safely tuckeed away from Duromine and Willies in the finals draw. Right Nut also had a cracking last round win but could not grab the double chance but will start a short price favourite in their elimination final next week

The Bye copped a final round shellacking but did enough to stay up thanks to the efforts of FootyLegends. PowerRules were extremely unlucky to go down so Lightning has done well to get by the Power and the Felons to stay up in Division III next season. Maybe you aren't as bad as you think Bye! Jimmy has been cracked for many weeks and after a stunning win over liamscrows which temporarily had him as the best junior player in the Hogg, it's been twelve straight for Rapids who now head back to Divvy IV next season.

Finals - tips in bold.

QUALIFYING FINALS - Winners promoted to Hogg Division II

The Willies v Duromine Dependent
Modraaaaaaa! v Some Can't

ELIMINATION FINALS

Right Nut v Golden Fleece
liamscrows v FootyLegends

Congratulations and good luck to all finalists this week.

Finals Week One

1st Qualifying Final
Duromine Dependent 2127
The Willies 2084

2nd Qualifying Final
Modraaaaaa! 2185
Some Cant 2070

1st Elimination Final
Right Nut 2159
Golden Fleece 1936

2nd Elimination Final
FootyLegends 2205
Liamscrows 2078

Duromine Dependent has thrown this competition on its head after a sensational victory over the previously unbeaten minor premier The Willies. This comp has been a bit of a procession for the Willies this year but his winning form deserted him just when he needed it the most in the first week of the finals. Duromine has won his way into Division II while The Willies still need one more win to achieve what has looked inevitable all year. In the other Quallie premiership theat Modraaaaa! did not fluff his lines being too good for Some Can't who seems well short of the top sides at the moment. The knockout finals were one sided affairs as FootyLegends topped the league for scoring in disposing of Liamscrows who had too many uniques not firing to avoid elimination. Right Nut caned an out of form Golden Fleece to remain the in the hunt but find themselves on the tough side of the draw now having to face The Willies, then Modraaaaaa! to make the Grand Final.

Semi Finals - Tips in bold.

The Willies v Right Nut
Some Cant v FootyLegends

Semi Finals are all or nothing games as the winners stay alive in the flag and get promoted as well. The losers have had a good season but walk away with nothing so it's a bitch of a match to lose. I don't think that The Willies will go out in straight sets despite the fact that Right Nut easily outscored them last week, The Willies have been in career best form all season and they have two weeks to right the wrongs of last week and rightfully win through to a Division II spot. Having said that though, Right Nut have also been very strong all season so it looks like it will be a ripping final. In the other final Some Cant was miles ahead of FootyLegends the last time they played with FootyLegends getting flogged by the Cants and they were looking pretty sad and sorry sitting in the relegation zone. Since then the Legends have been in very good form while the Cants have dropped off the pace a little. On current form the Legends get the chocolates and it will be straight sets for Some Cant.

Semi Finals

1st Semi Final
Right Nut 2149
The Willies 2054

2nd Semi Final
Some Cant 2092
FootyLegends 1890

In a sensational result the willies have flopped in the finals in straight sets after winning all thirteen minor round matches. Not since Glenelg in 1980 has their been such a sensational fall from grace at the business end of the season. Word has it that brod asked Allistair Clarkson to come to the Willies club to speak as a motivational speaker and unfortunately only Cotton was available and the results speak for themselves. Right Nut won a high quality contest and earned the right to participate in Division II next season much to brod's dismay. In the other semi final Some Cant was far too good for my boy Cub whose FootyLegends had a string of non-performers in the semi final. Cub has been dogged by Port's Travis Boak and he bobbed up one more time to end his season and that means Some Cant is in Division II next season. Congratulations to those that earned promotions this season.

Preliminary Finals - Tips in bold.

1st Preliminary Final - Duromine Dependent v Some Cant
2nd Preliminary Final - Modraaaaaa! v Right Nut

Some Cant were very solid against the Legends but for Duromine looks a more solid bet. On form Mods should be favourite but I have sneaky suspicion that Mods might have gone a bit too well in a week in which they didn't play. They are in the running for the Piglet Premiership so it's not a week off for Mods and I think Right Nut might be good enough to spoil the party and qualify for the Grand Final.

Preliminary Finals

1st Preliminary Final
Some Cant 2190
Duromine Dependent 2121

2nd Preliminary Final
Right Nut 2189
Modraaaaaa! 2169

It's been a very tight league this one all year and that theme continued on into Preliminary Final week. Some Cant's late season form continued at the expense of Duromine in somewhat of a surprise result but Mods' choke was entirely predictable and duly tipped by this correspondent. Everything went wrong for Mods but he was only twenty points shy of where he needed to be......dead stiff but Right Nut too good once again. I have absolutely no idea who is going to win this grand final...check out one point the difference last week...believe it or not, that's the not the closest. ..the Divvy I guys both scored the same score last week!

Grand Final - Some Cant vs. Right Nut. Preview in the Grand Final thread.
