Leckie has so far been the highlight in what has been a pretty ordinary season so far. Has seemed to be the only one out there that can give a bit of spark and his work ethic chasing balls down just to put pressure on is fantastic!

Need to hold onto him that's for sure!

Best player could be on his way out?

English Premier League club Portsmouth are reportedly keen to sign Adelaide United goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic in a £2 million ($A3.61 million) deal.

The Sun newspaper reports that Portsmouth was “keeping tabs on” Galekovic ahead of the FIFA January transfer window opening on January 1.

The club faces being left without a keeper if Tottenham snaps up David James.

“If Spurs bid for England keeper James, Pompey will spend £2 million on the Adelaide United star,” the newspaper said.

Galekovic, who signed a four-year deal with the Reds in November, has been included in the 23-man Australia squad to face Kuwait in Kuwait City on January 6 for their Asian Cup qualifier.

From once sinking ship to another

Na good luck to him if he gets the gig, but feel for whoever takes over in AU goals, they have big shoes to fill and we will get thumped! Just think of how many times Eugene has saved our asses with spectaular saves, and kept the opponant score are 1 or 2 goals when 4 probably would have been put past anyother A League Keeper

Every cloud, silver lining and all that....3 million would definately help stabilise the club off the field (bit like how Stan Lazaridis constant shifting of clubs used to keep West Adelaide afloat)...and in Brighitti we do have a decent prospect.

Who knows Aurelio might even use some of that money to buy some strikers that can actually play on the pitch at the same time...??

Wow! $3.6m would be fairly handy for our cash-strapped club, and could make us more enticing for any potential buyers. I don't suppose any of the coin would be spent on players though, which is disappointing. All pie in the sky at this stage of course. I really hope for our sake the transfer doesn't happen, but for Euge's sake it would be a massive step in his career. Speaking of potential buyers, what's the latest? No Middle Eastern group looking to turn us into the biggest club in the world? :ympray: :ympray:

And for those needing proof this is true (as I did!), here 'tis!

dont get to excited please

Portsmouth are under a transfer embargo due to some unpaid transfers from before . Until they are paid they will not be able to buy players

Secondly Glaokovic getting a visa will be hard press considering he hasnt played 70% of national games in the last 2 years

German clubs join hunt for Adelaide United keeper Eugene Galekovic

http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/stor ... 28,00.html

German clubs are chasing Adelaide United's Socceroos gloveman Eugene Galekovic in the January transfer window, which opened at midnight on Friday.

The Reds keeper's Germany-based FIFA agent Oliver Fischer confirmed Bundesliga clubs had signalled their intention to snare Galekovic after United complete their 2010 AFC Champions League commitments.

The Bundesliga's Hannover 96 is believed to be the club most interested in adding the A-League Keeper of the Year to their squad.

Galekovic was linked to Premier League club Portsmouth this week but a move to Pompey appears unlikely because of visa restrictions and the club's poor financial state.

"German clubs are following his form, especially with him playing for the Socceroos and in the Asian Champions League," Fischer, director of Apertura Sports, said.

Fischer would not confirm or deny speculation Hannover 96 was honing in on the impressive keeper.

Galekovic said he was not monitoring the global transfer market interest.

Beating Central Coast Mariners keeper Danny Vukovic and Perth Glory's Tando Velaphi for the Socceroos No.1 spot in the 2011 Asian Cup qualifier against Kuwait in Kuwait City next week was his sole focus during the six-day Dubai camp, he said.

"All three of us have to prove ourselves to Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek," Galekovic said.

"Hopefully, I can keep on doing what I'm doing. I know I've got a fight on my hands."

Galekovic would have struggled to gain a permit to play in England because he has not played more than 70 per cent of the Socceroos international fixtures over the past two years.

His Australian and Croatian passports also would not guarantee him a working visa despite Croatia being a candidate to become a member state of the European Union.

Galekovic has an 'out' clause and a fixed price on his head should foreign clubs come calling. He signed a four-year deal with the Reds in November.

Hannover 96 last month announced they had signed former Germany Under-21 international Uwe Gospodarek, 36, until the end of the season.

Gospodarek is destined to be the club's No.2 stopper behind Germany Under-21 international Florian Fromlowitz.

The 23-year-old was promoted to No.1 Hannover keeper following the suicide death of Germany custodian Robert Enke last November.

Germany's work permit laws are much more relaxed than Britain's. That would enable Galekovic to earn a contract in the Bundesliga with his current status.

Perth Glory goalkeeping coach Frank Juric spent four years plying his trade for Hannover.

This is more likely than a move to the uk, as the aritcle says work permit laws are far more relaxed and the Bundesliga have alot of young and non capped foreigners.
The problem with Barcelona is that I like fish and chips but they had to turn it into calamari and patatas
