Sounds like the Malik deal to Melbourne City is back on the table. This deal involves Stefan Mauk who apparently has being offered a long term deal. If both players agree to the deal, Mauk will be a Reds player by Monday.

Deal was apparantly done Thursday and Malik is in Melbourne already. Reckon we win in that deal overall even though Malik is better now. Mauk is class and will make his mark in the coming years

Turned on to the ABC for the news today at about 6.59. They were showing the penalty shootout at the end of a W-League final, Melbourne City v Brisbane. They each scored their first four before Brisbane missed its fifth, but I don't know the result because, as the City player was running in to take her penalty, the news started.

I haven't really been following the W-League but I would have been pissed if I was a fan of either team. Never heard of a TV station cutting the coverage during a penalty shootout, let alone as the decisive kick was about to be taken. Imagine if the SBS had started playing the news when Johnny Aloisi was running in to take his kick...

Watched the replay last night. Putrid performance but another 3 points, huge game against the Smurfs this week. A win could get us near the top 3

Wont happen. I hate their behaviour, i don't agree with it but whether me or you want to admit it those kind of atmospheres that build rivalries that last for 100 years. A passion for your club and hatred for the opposition supporters is what can get 35k to Upton Park week in week out despite their fans knowing they will never ever ever ever win the league. The A-League cant afford to be like the AFL where crowds drop of dramatically depending on a sides performance. They need to their to be serious rivalries so that when a team is not traveling as well like WSW last season there is still a passion to go see the opposition your passionately hate.

Yes it defiantly needs to be reigned in but at this early stage having passionate rivalries that are 'REAL' is not going to hurt the league in the future.

A classic example is the Collingwood v Essendon rivalry, supposedly the biggest rivalry in the country yet because both sides were struggling they only managed to get 40k to their last meeting. No matter how manu vs manc or sun vs new, west ham vs milwall were traveling you would never see less than 50% of the stadiums capacity empty no matter what stadium it was played in.

Soccer is on such a massive rise in this country at the moment.

The northern suburbs is currently on that big a boom from the AU move into Ridley Reserve that four of the local clubs are currently having to send kids to other clubs as they are at full capacity of what they can manage.

My indoor soccer comps here at Craigmore are ridiculous and we are having to knock back social teams as we are full to capacity. This is the same for the velodrome who have over 150 futsal sides on a Sunday.

The Campbeltown Rec centre is another centre that is currently knocking back social soccer teams.

Why even compare English soccer to Australian?

It is the sport of choice over there for over 60 million people, it's about third or fourth here with 24 million people.

It moved from winter to summer to avoid competing with the dominant Aussie rules and Rugby codes.

Grass roots level is one thing, dickheads making it impossible ( as well as the cost ) for Mums and Dads to take their kids to the A-League is killing it at the top end. 4 clubs average more than 10,000 people per match.2 of them the worst advertisement for the game in the country.

Unfortunately despite being the worse advertisements there the teams getting the biggest crowd figures home and away. People hate them and mainly because of there supporters. People will make sure they go see their team against them because there is a genuine hatred.

Who is annually Adelaides highest attracting home game against??? Melbourne Victory. Reason because of the rivalry between the fans!!!

There's the problem.

While Adelaides biggest crowds would be with Melbourne Victory, how many of them are the kids you're talking about from out North there with Mum and Dad? How many are the mugs in anoraks sucking down 10 pints before they go?

Won't ever truly build the game when coppers on horses have to keep the "supporter" groups separated.

But it has built the game!!! Look it at it compared to twenty years ago.
