Be careful there Ian - most of them are born and bred in Australia. It turns out that people with last names like Aloisi, Viduka, Bresciano are actually better soccer players that those with more typical Australian names and deserve to be there more than anyone.

Good on them for sticking with Australia and not playing for their country of heritage where they could have tasted more success, like some of the Croatian players.

Yeah, how come Bazza, Bluey, Dave, Macca, Smithy, Knackers & the like aren't emblazoned on the back of our jumpers?

A fantastic effort !!!

Up until Cahill got the first goal I was thinkin - this will be right we are all over them and we couldnt hit the back of the net to save our selves. Japan is goin to get away with a one nil win !!!! Doh

Then the next 10 minutes we couldnt be stopped - fantastic way to hype it up even more !!!

Cant wait for Brazil now !!!

Just another point how proud did you feel of the crowd belting out the national anthem - I rekon that the noise was right up there with the best of the them !!! Well done you Aussies !!!
It is what it is !!!

thats the thing about this game, anything can happen, you can have games with no goals, and you can have games where you can have 3 in 10 minutes, its the exitment of knowing you could be on the verge of somthing like that, it can just take one little flick in the right direction for somthing special to happen.

Awesome stuff, I'm glad I stayed up for that game. Mrs Wedgie almost went to bed at the 80 minute mark and was very glad she stayed up for the next 15 minuts.
In a tipping compe I picked a 1 all draw and looked good for 5 minutes!
Shocking ref decision to give the Japs their first goal (admitted later he was wrong) but evened up late in the 2nd half when Cahill should have had a penatly against him so all square there.
The Green and Gold crowd looked great, imagine how fantastic it would have been to be there?
At the 80 minute mark I thought the campaign was over, now its well and truly on.
We have to hope Brazil flog Croatia so they'll be complacent against us which hopefully we'll sneak a draw in before knocking off the Croats.

Go Aussies Go!!

if we can finish top of the group, we will most likely play the US, which is a much better option than finishing 2nd and playing the Czechs.

At this stage Sammy I'd just settle for us getting through ... The Croatians are a good outfit, so plenty of work to do still

I can't see the US getting through, i watched them get flogged last night by the Czechs.

Unbelievable win, the game was a cracker with both teams having chances. I hope the ref doesn't get another game at this tourney he was a disgrace.

Thank christ for Tim Cahill!!!

Yanks have got no chance of going through, the Italians and Czechs will be through from that group for sure.
Doesn't make much diff if we come 1st or 2nd, the Italians or Czechs would both be formidable opponents.

I would hate to play the czechs. They are an awesome team. Nedved is a big game matchwinner, watch out for him. They are the favourites in my mind. That put on an absolute clinic against the Us who beleive it or not are a good team!

And Timmy Cahill!!!! He could well go down as our greatest ever player after this tournament! This is the stage to show your true worth. I thought Viduka was awesome in the first half, needed a Cahill or Kennedy to help him and it could have been all over by half time.

Yeah Wilkshire just looks overawed to me. His role was to keep Alex quiet, which he pretty much did, but when he had possesion, not much good came from it. Especially when you have Cahill and Skoko sitting on the bench.

The player that needs to get out of the team is Emerton. Havent seen him do anything of note in an Australian shirt for about 3 years.

LUCAS NEILL: The game of his life. Cool, composed and brilliant under pressure in a three-man backline. Was Australia's best for 90 minutes. Rating: 9.

If you wanted to take me seriously, we'd have to go back to pre 1800's for "Real Aussie " names.
