Soccer/football - which is it?

Postby westozfalcon » Thu Jul 01, 2010 5:04 pm

Some time back I believe it was declared that the round ball game in Australia would be officially called football yet the national team still being referred to as the Socceroos. :?:

It doesn't matter.
Call it what you want.
Embrace it.
You're my only friend, and you don't even like me.

Agree with DW, just love the sport
The problem with Barcelona is that I like fish and chips but they had to turn it into calamari and patatas

Soccer...

The reason I say that is that Aussie Rules should be referred to as football or Aussie Rules, not AFL. Not all Aussie Rules players and teams play AFL hence it shouldn't be referred to as a sport. It's a competition that the sport occurs within.

I do embrace it. I've supported Aston Villa quite passionately for over 30 years.

I've just always thought Socceroos is a silly name and now it's even sillier because the game is no longer (officially) referred to as soccer in Australia.

Footy/Football
League
Union
Soccer

Are these names too difficult to say? :?
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.
