Australian Domestic Cup

Apologies if this has been discussed before (couldn't find it anywhere).

What do we think about having a domestic cup competition?
IMO, it'd be great to see an FA Cup style comp. I know that's hard to do in Aus, but how about a format along the lines of the following:

Played in Feb/Mar
A League sides all qualify.
The winners from each premier state comp + NZ (most recent season) also qualify.
Play a simple knockout comp until there are 2 finalists, who playoff for the Cup.

Obviously cost is a prohibiting factor, so the FFA and a major sponsor would have to step in to help get the state winners to away fixtures if necessary.

I reckon it would be great to see the lower teir of football get a chance to take on the big boys FA Cup style. I know the NSL was abolished and the A-League created to stop the factional rubbish, but seeing sides like Adelaide City, Marconi, South Melbourne etc as underdogs against the big boys would be a great spectacle IMO.

The cost is the big issue but I would love it.

It is great having a longer league season but it would be nice to break up league matches with a few Cup games.

I'm sure a big sponsor would tip in some coin for cup naming rights ala League Cup in England.

The Qantas Cup? The Westpac Cup?
