Yorke quits Sydney FC!

SYDNEY FC has lost its skipper, with reports confirming Dwight Yorke has signed with second tier English club Sunderland.

Yorke missed the glamour A-League club's flight to Melbourne this morning amid speculation he was set to announce a return to English football.

Sydney chief executive Tim Parker had earler confirmed the club was speaking to the English Championship outfit about a transfer deal. The the European transfer window closes tomorrow morning (AEST).

Yorke's former Manchester United teammate Roy Keane took over as manager of struggling Sunderland this week, and reportedly offered the Trinidad and Tobago captain a $600,000 pay rise, lifting his salary to $1.5 million a season.

Southern Cross radio reported Yorke was not on Sydney FC's flight when it departed this morning for Mebvourne where the club plays the Victory in an A-League match on Saturday night.

Sydney bling have run out of cash to pay him so he's bolted to save himself of a massive paycut.

Looks like it could be Melbourne and Adelaide this season

Im Sure Allnight Dwight will miss the Sydney nightlife, Don't think Sunderland would have to many night clubs to go to

You'd be very wrong there. Many nightclubs and even more pubs in Sunderland. Not only in the city itself, but Newcastle is also 10 miles away with more choices as well.

Yes I have spent 6 months in the fair city of Sunlan :lol:
