SIX senior Adelaide United players, including skipper Ross Aloisi and Socceroo Travis Dodd, have been accused of "inciting" the home crowd after the controversial 1-0 win over Melbourne Victory.
Football Federation Australia wrote to Adelaide United on Friday asking it to investigate the action of its players after the Melbourne game at Telstra Dome last Sunday.
It is the second time the governing body has clashed with Adelaide in less than a week after it suspended Reds' coach John Kosmina for six games on Wednesday.
Kosmina was banned for the touchline altercation with Victory captain Kevin Muscat, who earned a yellow card but no suspension.
On Friday, Football Federation Australia wrote a letter under the heading re: Adelaide United FC (AUFC) players inciting Melbourne Victory FC (MVFC) spectators in round 8 at Telstra Dome to United chief executive Michael Petrillo.
The letter asked the club to conduct an internal review on the post-match actions of some of its players.
It expected United to respond to the letter by the close of business on October 31.
The FFA said in the letter it "reserves the right to take over investigations and impose additional penalties should the club procedure and outcome be deemed insufficient."
While some of United's players celebrated jubilantly after the match, the FFA appears to have seen it as a blight on the game, witnessed by more than 32,000 fans.
The FFA's letter stated the governing body deems the actions of the players in question as "serious and in breach of Clause 2 of the HAL (Hyundai A-League) code of conduct".
Yesterday Petrillo said: "I'm unable to comment until we have a full rundown on what the situation is. We hope to have a good look at it on Monday."
The letter, written by A-League operations manager Rob Abernethy, says some of United's had used excessive post-match gestures after United's win.
It comes only days after the FFA suspended Kosmina.
The FFA letter said it will not tolerate the "number of players are seen jumping over the signage grid at the northern end of the field to celebrate with the small group of AUFC (United) fans.
"This action (in directly approaching the AUFC fans) incited some unsavoury behaviour from some MVFC (Victory) fans located adjacent to the AUFC fans."
Angelo Costanzo, Matthew Kemp, Dodd, Aloisi, Michael Valkanis and Robert Bajic have all been identified as "instigators" while the FFA said another two Reds players who were part of the celebration have not been identified
