I know you are desperate to see United relegated so Spurs might actually have a chance of getting 4th but it won't happen.

I could take out a $10 Billion dollar loan and call myself the richest man in Australia.

But when you look at my net position, I'd be a porper just like the rest.

I could flap my arms around and complain about everything and act rich, but at the end of the day, it'd all fall apart eventually.

Yeah sorry my mistake, United are tiny and are not a well supported club at all.

I wasn't suggesting that Marty. But look at the facts, £245m turnover. Out of that is £80m for the sale of Roanldo and £65m from TV sponsorship. Check out Real Madrid.

Still they are ten times bigger than my clarets ;)

My point was that they have debts of £770m and growing every year. They made £42m profit which included the Ronaldo money. Take away the £80m and they made an operating loss of £38m. How many more Ronaldos can they sell year on year to finance the debt.

If they weren't so debt ridden they would probably be the biggest club on the planet

I know you lot are so desperate to see United fail and turn into a basketcase like Leeds but it is not going to happen.

If it makes it happy for you to continue to dream about the day we are in the third tier then good luck to you I guess.

Also they are into the next round of the champs league and are still in the hunt for the league title which will take them past Liverpool, not bad for a debt-ridden basketcase.

Woah  Steady on mate. Where have I said I was desperate to see United fall? In fact where have I taken any pleasure in thier plight. I was simply reporting on what is happening there, all of it impartial and as factual as the British press will allow.

What happens in 2-3 seasons time though?

With the unpaid debt increasing by 14% and only maybe Rooney valuable enough to prop them up next season, UTD are in strife - surely you can't deny that?

How are they going to buy players?
If they don't buy players to cover the retirement of Giggs, Scholes, EVDS and the ailing form of Ferdinand and Berbatoss, how are they going to continue to progree through the CL stages and even maintain top 4?

If they can't finish top 4 annually and lose CL, take away probably 100m quid from the turnover and where to then?

I'd love to see Man U flounder. I'm not going to deny that. But you have to be realistic as well RM - their current business model is not sustainable.

As i said I dont really understand the business side of it - but reading a few mails on the Football365 website there have been a few remarks as to how / why the debt is like this and how its not as bad as what is made out to be and how United will continue to operate as normal. These seem just as plausible as what you guys are saying in relation to Uniteds finance.

All i do know is that since the Glazers took over every year when the financial report is released there is a story on how much debt we are in...yet every year we seem to still buy & sell new players and win trophies.

The plan is to launch a £500m bond. These are a bit like shares and can be bought and sold and will realise a return of about 8 1/2%. if the bond issue is successful it will enable Man U top pay off the £202m additional debt that is mounting at 14% pa.

But it won't clear the total debt however it should give the Glaziers a bit of breathing space.

The bonds won't go on sale to the fans though and will probably be touted to private investors and institutions and around £50k per bond.

The glaziers have given Fergusson a £75m transfer chest, arranged through a further bank overdraft. This is probably a sweetner to encourage investors, as continued success in the EPL and CL are essential.

It is hard to see where to for Man U if the bond issue doesn't raise enough capital ???

Just a footnote: It has been reported that during the last year the Glaziers have taken £10m out of the club in "management fees" and a further £10m as a private loan. It's no wonder many Man U fans are dissolusioned with the Glaziers.

and every year since they took over the debt has increased, from £509m to a now staggering £720m and that's the problem swooper. The debt is getting to the point that unless united can raise £40m+ in transfers they won't make a profit. there's no doubt that the debt is going to cripple Man U. I suggest you read the stories in The Times, The Telegraph and the Guardian (all considered quality newspapers in the UK)

its very hard to tell tho, i personally dont think anything will happen to them as i would love them to struggle and become a leeds/newcastle/ nott forrest but i very much doubt it. they might be round the top ten or above mark but relegation is out of the word IMO.

but im sure leeds debt wasnt as much as man uniteds is at the moment.

Was wondering why the Man U game is the only Premier League fixture this weekend and everyone else was playing FA Cup :?

Then I remembered Man U have been knoocked out of the FA Cup.

i think they just need a rest  have the second leg of carling to come also so see how they go with that. might go down to penaltys. or might be like the derby played there earlier in the season where they score in stoppage time.

Four goals from Rooney is a great effort lets hope he brings that form into the World Cup.

The bond issue went through for Man U raising £500m. so it gives Glazers some breathing space.
they've paid off the £220m interest only debt, allegedly, and some of the £500m debt. but now they have to pay the bond holders 8 3/4 % per annum, around £43m

In another thread there was talk that Fabregas was the best player in the league. He's good - no question and certainly top 5.

But head and shoulders above the rest at the moment is Shrek Rooney. He is unbelievable.

Despite all the shit hung on ManUre (pun intended!!!), they are a class act when it comes to the crunch. Their desire to win is unmatched in England IMO. At 2-0 up away at the Emirates when all other managers would be sat smug in their dugout resting on their laurels, Fergie was up at the edge of his technical area, face a deeper purple than ever, shouting instructions at his players and demanding more.

Seeing Giggs come on at the age of about 73 and still run about like a 20 year old is inspirational.

**** I hate Man Utd!!!

Brilliant performance last night. Right back in the hunt for another EPL title now.

Rooney was fantastic as always but Nani also turned in one of his best performances in a United shirt, hopefully he will continue to play like that after having an ordinary start to the season.

It is a pity that Chelsea's catch up game is against Hull midweek so they will end up going back to 4 points but at least they know we will be fighting this out until the end.
