Should be good football to watch. Another great fixture will be Barca v Bayern. I tip Bayern

Well you can take the mystery goal or you can take Cech getting sent off and a penalty awarded.
Either way you lose and history shows LFC won the UCL that season.

Maybe if it goes to penalties John Terry can take the kick without his roller skates on.

Lol. nice one. Should be a good contest

Liverpool will not play their fixture on the scheduled date.

UEFA have agreed to move it because it falls on the aniversary of Hillsborough

Interesting story in the press today. Not so much about the draw, but as with me, most English views on Platini.

Thanks to the Daily Mail

Make it a Rome from home: Draw favours Premier crew but Liverpool land Chelsea

The rehearsal was better than the real thing: Liverpool versus Manchester United; Chelsea versus Arsenal.

Just what Michel Platini would have wanted when UEFA's president is so keen to see an end to the dominance of the Barclays Premier League and a draw that would have produced two momentous all-English Champions League quarter-finals.

But when the balls were plucked from the bowl by Bruno Conti for a second time an hour or so later, it still prompted few gasps from the audience at UEFA headquarters. Gasps of despair, anyway.

While Platini will bemoan that the English now look good to occupy three of the semi-final places for the third successive season, the neutrals will relish the prospect of a possible final between United and Liverpool in a stadium that has already witnessed two European Cup triumphs for the Merseysiders.

I didn't know they did rehearsals. FFS how difficult is it to pull a ball out of a bowl

I'll probably get slated (or moderated ;) ) for saying this, BUT:

They're French mate. F***ing useless at everything except whinging and surrendering.

(I said a similar thing in a Spurs forum, which kicked off a 10 page rant against me and got me a ban for 5 days. I thought it was funny  )

Two games, two draws for EPL sides tonight, but I have a feeling that Arsenal will be the happier. Not to say that United won't turn it around in the 2nd leg but I would say definitely the harder task given Porto's home record in the CL

Here's the round up for both games

UNITED PEGGED BY PLUCKY PORTO

Manchester United conceded early on and again at the close as Porto snatched a 2-2 draw in Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final first leg.
After trailing to Cristian Rodriguez's fourth-minute opener at Old Trafford, United had profited from a large slice of luck when Wayne Rooney netted the equaliser on the quarter-hour mark.

And when Rooney set up Carlos Tevez to put the Red Devils in front five minutes from time, it seemed Sir Alex Ferguson's men would take the narrowest of leads to Portugal next week, only for an unmarked Mariano Gonzalez to deny them at the death.
United began the match in casual fashion and were duly punished after just four minutes as Rodriguez put Porto into a shock lead.

Cristiano Ronaldo's sloppy pass inside the United half resulted in the ball coming wide right to Lisandro Lopez, who swung over a cross that Jonny Evans should have dealt with comfortably.
Instead, the Northern Ireland international prodded the ball straight to Rodriguez - who took a stride forward before calmly curling a shot into the bottom corner.

Lisandro then tested Edwin van der Sar and Hulk saw a free-kick deflected wide as the visitors threatened to increase their lead.
But United quickly wised up and after Ronaldo's header forced Porto goalkeeper Helton into action, a foolish error from Bruno Alves brought about the equaliser.

The Portugal defender blindly turned a square pass back to Helton without realising that he was being shadowed by Rooney, who pounced on the ball and chipped it home with minimal fuss.
Rodriguez and Lucho Gonzalez attempted to restore Porto's lead but to no avail and further chances came for the visitors, partly down to United frequently squandering possession.

Ronaldo and John O'Shea were the culprits, with the latter particularly fortunate not to see Hulk profit from his loose backpass.
Paul Scholes nodded over at the end of the half after the first real spell of sustained pressure from United.
Van der Sar and Helton were both busy again at the start of the second period, but Ronaldo should have done better with his follow-up effort from a Park Ji-Sung cross.
The tempo dropped slightly before the appearance of Ryan Giggs in place of Park, but then Rooney and Nemanja Vidic forced Helton into impressive saves - the first from the striker's cunning chip, before the Serbian centre-back connected well with a free-kick.
Substitute Tevez escaped when he appeared to foul Hulk inside the United area.

With five minutes left, Rooney got a touch to Gary Neville's long throw. The back-flick nudged the ball towards the near post where Tevez, in a flash, sent it flying into the top corner.
It looked like being the killer blow but the lead lasted just three minutes as United were caught out defensively once more and Mariano arrived unmarked to finish off Lisandro's cross.

It now appears reigning European champions United are likely to have to become the first English side to win away to Porto next Wednesday if they are to progress to this season's semi-finals.

FIRST-CLASS ADE PATCHES UP GUNNERS

Arsenal came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw against Villarreal in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final at El Madrigal.
Togo striker Emmanuel Adebayor made it three goals in two games, and five in this European campaign, with a stunning scissor-kick after 66 minutes to cancel out an equally impressive opener from home captain Marcos Senna on Tuesday night.

Arsene Wenger's side lost both goalkeeper Manuel Almunia and centre-back William Gallas to injury during the first half, but rallied to secure what could prove to be a decisive result to defend at Emirates Stadium next Wednesday night.
The last time Arsenal played at the intimidating Spanish ground was three seasons ago when a dramatic late penalty save from Jens Lehmann guided them through to the European Cup final.

While that journey ultimately ended in defeat to Barcelona, there is growing belief Rome in 2009 could just prove the coming of age for Wenger's young Gunners.
Villarreal have never lost at home in the Champions League and kept holders Manchester United to a goalless draw earlier this season. So it was no surprise the hosts settled quickly.

There was a goal-mouth scramble following a corner when Gael Clichy cleared off the line and Almunia smothered the loose ball as defender Gonzalo Rodriguez looked to capitalise. Villarreal then took the lead in stunning fashion after 10 minutes.

The ball was worked down the right before being passed inside to Senna. The skipper took aim and drilled a wonderful 25-yard strike past Almunia into the top corner, setting El Madrigal alight. Arsenal looked to respond immediately and forced a couple of corners.

A smart turn and run by Theo Walcott fed Cesc Fabregas, who slipped Samir Nasri, replacing the cup-tied Andrey Arshavin, in on the left side of the area. The Frenchman's angled drive was pushed around the post by Diego Lopez.

Arsenal were forced into a change after 27 minutes when Almunia, who sustained an ankle injury in the early goal-line scramble, was replaced by Lukasz Fabianski.
The young Pole was immediately called into action, first saving low to his left from Senna and then producing a good reaction block at the near post to deny Joan Capdevila.

The visitors had some good spells of neat passing but were unable to make the best of promising positions.
After 38 minutes, Villarreal were awarded a free-kick when Alex Song tripped Giuseppe Rossi, once a Manchester United player, just outside the penalty area, the Arsenal midfielder booked.

Gallas was then clattered by the falling striker and had to be carried off on a stretcher for treatment, eventually being replaced by Johan Djourou. Ariel Ibagaza struck the free-kick off the bottom of the wall. Cani then shot wide as the Spaniards pressed for a second.

In stoppage time, Arsenal were awarded a free-kick in a central position after Adebayor went down in between two defenders.
Fabregas took his shot early, rolling the ball into the net, but the quick effort was ruled out by Norwegian referee Tom Henning Ovrebo and the Arsenal captain was shown a yellow card. Kolo Toure's strike was then blocked by the wall.

As the hour mark approached, it was continuing to be a night of frustration for the Barclays Premier League side, who had been on a decent run of form heading into the game. Walcott floated a ball in from the right, which Adebayor glanced wide.

Then, out of nothing, the big striker struck a superb equaliser to stun the home crowd in the 66th minute.
There seemed little danger when Fabregas, who set up both Adebayor's goals against Manchester City on Saturday, lofted a high ball into the Villarreal penalty area.
Even though surrounded by three markers and with his back to goal, Adebayor collected the ball on his chest before dispatching a brilliant scissor-kick into the far corner.

Nasri drilled wide as Arsenal went looking for a second. Former Arsenal midfielder Robert Pires was introduced, to a warm reception from the travelling fans, for the final 21 minutes, replacing Joseba Llorente.

Walcott blazed over after being played in on the right of the penalty area by Fabregas, before he was replaced by Emmanuel Eboue.

There was still some defending to do for the Gunners as Rossi looked to get on the end of a near-post cross before Senna almost netted another 25-yard effort.
But Arsenal remained strong under intense late pressure to give themselves every chance in the second leg.

WOW!!!! What a strike by Adebayor! =D> Amazing. Interesting to read that Porto managed a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford too. Man U now need to become the first English side to win at Porto to advance. Which of course is not beyond them, but you never know! One can only hope! :)

Full Time

Liverpool 1 - Chel$ki 3

Very poor effort tonight from Liverpool.
After the 1st 25 mins it was all Chelsea.

Liverpools defending, passing and enthusiasm just wasnt there.

Skrtel, Lucas, Dossena, Aurelio all had VERY ordinary games.

Sid Vicious to miss the 2nd leg for Chelsea in a game that should see Liverpool knocked out.

Quality call smithy.

Unbelievable win to Chelsea, I would not have picked that as Liverpool are hard to beat at the best of times, let alone at Anfield in Europe.

Chelsea look set to face Barca now, United will have a huge job to do if they are to make it to the semis so we could have United and Liverpool both knocked out and able to concentrate on the league.

With Steven Gerrard in the stands, Liverpool needing to win by 3 goals are 2-0 up at half time and pumping Chel$ki's goal like Linda Lovelace on all 4's.....

Chel$ki of course are now playing how they play best,,,,, screaming, diving, whinging little girls and the ref (a likeable Spanish ref I might add :) ) is falling for it a fair bit.

Bring on the 2nd half.

GAME OVER - Chel$ki a different team after the break as they score 3 goals to knock Liverpool out.

A wonder strike by Alex for the 2nd will go close to goal of the tournament.

If my thoughts on Lucas Leiva couldn't get any worse, it was highlighted this morning by the fact he was out-paced to a ball by Frank Lampard.

Barcelona will destroy Chel$ki.
