wharf side crew wrote:Who? - Fernando Torres - Speculation
Where is he? - Liverpool
Who is he linked with? - Manchester United
Manchester United have been linked with a shock bid to snatch Liverpool striker Fernando Torres from Anfield as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo's impending 80m move to Real Madrid leaves United in need of a regular goalscorer and with plenty of money to spend on a new one. Meanwhile, Liverpool's perilous financial state has left Rafa Benitez short of transfer funds and potentially vulnerable to losing some of his stars. He would be loathe to lose Torres to his rivals, but Sir Alex Ferguson has been a long-term admirer of the Spanish striker, and United have the means to make an offer that would be difficult to refuse. The champions have also been linked with moves for Antonio Valencia of Wigan Athletic and Karim Benzema of Lyon.

Fernando Torres wrote:Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has categorically ruled out leaving Anfield after insisting he will win important trophies with the club. The Spain striker was linked with a surprise move to the Reds' bitter rivals Manchester United last week, while Barcelona are also reported to be potential suitors. But the 25-year-old hot-shot claims he has absolutely no intention of leaving Liverpool just weeks after pledging his future to the club by signing a new long-term contract. "Winning the European Championship with Spain gave me a taste of what winning at the top level was like and once you've had a taste of success it becomes an addiction," he told the Daily Mail. "A lot of players committed themselves to Liverpool this summer with new contracts and players don't do that unless they think they can have their ambitions met. There is a lot of belief at the club and a lot of trust in the manager. I sincerely believe I will win the Premier League and the European Cup here. The winning tradition is very clear at Liverpool. I want to be involved in a little piece of their history. I'm very happy with my contract at Liverpool and wouldn't leave just to earn a little more somewhere else where I wouldn't be that happy. To want any more would be greedy and that is not me. As long as Liverpool want me, I will stay."

OFFICIAL: Diego Milito Joins Inter From Genoa

Striker Diego Milito has finally made his move from Genoa to Inter, as confirmed by the Italian champions' official website.

The deal had been agreed for some time, but was formalised on Monday evening. The Argentine now has a contract at the San Siro until June 2013 and is a welcome addition to the Nerazzurri strike force.

Meanwhile, youngster Robert Acquafresca moves in the opposite direction on a permanent transfer after spending this past season on-loan at Cagliari. The player recently scored three goals at the Under-21 championships in Sweden, but may not be staying with the Grifoni.

The striker wants to be an automatic first choice upfront and is close to securing a likely temporary move to Atalanta.

The 30-year-old Milito was one of the stars of the Rossoblu's successful season as they finished in fifth place, scoring 24 times in Serie A. He finished one goal behind top scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who he will be teaming up with in 2009-10.

Genoa's Brazilian midfielder Thiago Motta is also close to confirming his transfer to Inter. The entire deal for the South American duo is reportedly worth more than €30 million.
The problem with Barcelona is that I like fish and chips but they had to turn it into calamari and patatas

Breaking News: Wolverhampton Wanderers Sign Kevin Doyle From Reading
The Republic of Ireland international striker arrives at Molineux for an undisclosed fee...

Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed the signing of Kevin Doyle from Championship club Reading as they prepare for life in the Premier League.

A statement on the club's official website reads, "Wolves have today swooped to complete the signing of much sought-after striker Kevin Doyle from Reading to help spearhead their return to the Premier League.

"Kevin completed his medical late last night and put pen to paper on a four-year contract to make the move from Berkshire for an undisclosed fee."

It is thought that the Midlands-based side beat off competition from the likes of Aston Villa, Bolton Wanderers, Everton, Fulham and Sunderland to land the 25-year-old.

"I'm delighted to get the move sorted and can't wait to get going," Doyle is quoted as saying.

"I'm sad to be leaving Reading because I had some great years there but I'm going with their blessing as well which is nice.

"Wolves were the first club that actually came in and settled things with Reading and so they were the first club I spoke to.

"It was nice to see how keen they were and when I came in and met the manager I just got on really well with him.

"The facilities here are top class and it's great to be going back into the Premier League again."

The 26-time capped Republic of Ireland international was rumoured to have had a £6.5 million minimum fee release clause in his Reading contract.

Having joined the Royals from Cork City for a fee of around £78,000 in 2005, Doyle scored 56 goals in 163 appearances.

Michael Owen rumoured to be close to signing for ManYoo

Not sure about this one. So many injuries over his career so not sure if he could consistently get the goals - i guess he could strengthen our depth tho and perhaps the strain of not having to play week in week out could recapture some of that form.

If it did go ahead that means United would have replaced Ronaldo & Tevez with Valencia and Owen. You would think United have lost out. Problem is that the other quality names (ribery, benezma) you hear that could be on the move are being linked with Real..!!

Fergie is going to have to pull something out the hat (eg Larsson 3 years ago) for united to be competitive in England & Europe at this stage.
