CL Update

Postby johntheclaret » Wed Apr 11, 2007 5:41 am

Watching Man U Roma.
20 minutes gone Man U 3 - 0 Roma.
Carrick, Smith, Rooney.
United just tearing Roma apart.

Revised after 44 mins. Man U 4 - 0 Roma. Great goal by Ronaldo. United look like they will score everytime they go forward. If they dont take the foot off the gas in the 2nd half, could be a SANFL score  And based on what happened in Italy, can't see Man U letting up.

Half Time Man U 4 - 0 Roma.

Revised. Man U 5 - 0 Roma. Ronaldo again.
56 mins gone and Roma have had a shot

Revised Man U 6 - 0 Carrick 2nd, great bending shot. This is bloody awesome stuff. 60 mins gone.
Giggs off, Solskaer on. Fergie going for the throat. Already biggest ever CL win ??

Revised. Man U 6 - 1 Roma. Dirossi 69 mins. O oh, pressure back on MU now. Roma only need another 4

Revised Man U 7 - 1 Roma Evra getting on the score sheet (Sorry Roma only need 6 now)

Final Score Man U 7 - 1 Roma

Valencia 0 - 0 Chelski. 24 mins gone. Not watching this one so cant say how they are doing.

Revised. Valencia 1 - 0 Chelski. Ex Pool Morientes puts spanish in front.

Half Time

Revised Valencia 1 - 1 Shevchenko. Game on again

Revised Valencia 1 - 2 Chelski. Essien after 90 minutes. Means Valencia must score 2 to go through.

Full Time Valencia 1 - 2 Chelski

3 EPL clubs in the semi's. Liverpool (bit of an assumption here)v Chelski (as predicted  ) Man U v Milan / Munich
Listen out now for the calls to ban English clubs from Europe. Will get louder over the next year

Should be safe now Matt. They have been unlucky with some of their results. Blackstock scoring freely.

Real strife down at Kenilworth McA. Mike Newell fired by the board under a cloud as he publically stated there had been some allegedly dogdy dealings. The clubs finances are being investigated amid rumours of irregularities, The fans are calling for the board to resign. All allegedly, but certainly at the wrong time. Ex Leeds manager Blackwell appointed as new manager, so he can do to Luton what he did for Leeds  except without any money. Look odds on for the drop. Hope you are more positive about the Roosters RM.

To be fair, Cardiff looked an ok outfit. Kept the ball well and created plenty. Only two wins away from the playoffs and with PNE out of form, Wolves and WBA blowing hot and cold, you are still in with a chance. The Clarets would swap positions with the Blubirds any day.

Good set of fans too. Even at 2 - 0 down they kept singing and bagging the Claret fans.

Down side. Chopra, spent all day chasing the ref, complaining everytime he got flagged offside or didn't get the throw in or free. If had put as much energy into playing as he did whinging, you might have got something out of the game.

IMO he is up his own ar5e. The fact that everyone must be telling him how good he is and how important he is to Cardiff seems to gone to his head. Shame

What an outstanding game. Man U were unbelievable. Roma were disgraceful!

Carrick's goals were the highlight for me. His 2nd was a PEARLER!

Seriously though, was DONI paid for that performance? Didin't even make an attempt to stop a couple of those goals. Never rule it out - it's Italian football after all!!!

Also noticed there was no crowd trouble. Been chatting on a Spurs forum where people suggested ALL the trouble last Thursday was caused by the Spanish Riot Police. Reports suggest Spurs fans and Sevilla fans were drinking, joking and singing together before and after the game. Goodluck wishes were also exchanged before and after the game for the return leg. While I don't condone the disgraceful actions of the Spurs fans who ripped up seats etc, it's clear that the riot police were the source of the provocation just like in Italy at last weeks MU v Roma 1st leg.

IMO the suggestion for a nuetral european 'sports police' brigade is a great idea.

I wonder what the Carrick critics will be saying today? Two serves of humble pie to go thanks?
I'm glad i dragged myself out of bed at 4am this morning to watch the game.. a wonderful performance by the Red Devils, Roma looked alright in the first 10 minutes and had a couple of shots from distance and then when Carrick struck we ran all over the top of them. The build up for the goals was brilliant and we made every shot count, the finishing was unbelievable. Pity Chelski got through but it could be a good thing as it means they have to play the same amount of matches as us.

It could be Man Utd vs Chelsea in the FA Cup and Champs League Finals, and their league match could decide the Premiership. Exciting end to the season awaits!!!

P.S. devilsadvocate, there was a bit of crowd trouble outside the ground before the game when police clashed with fans from both sides. Roma fans threw a firework into a group of Man Utd supporters and there were also glass and plastic bottles thrown

I too am glad I got up. I LOVE champions league weeks - so much easier to get out of bed. Esp this week with Spurs uefa cup game - I don't think I'll sleep Thursday night!

Didn't realise there were clashes. I suppose I shouldn't have written them off so early.

It's funny how much hatred there is of Port and Crows in the AFL from the opposing teams supporters, yet in my attendance at probably 12 or 13 of the showdowns, I've never once seen an arrest, fight, thrown object, baton charging police!!! etc. It's so much better knowing you can go to the game with a 50/50 crowd (Port games) throw some banter around and not get your face beaten in for it. Then all go have a beer after and gloat like hell or sulk like a baby!

Blues shattering weekend, only slightly decent thing was Derby stumbling as well.

LiverpooooooooooooL roll on.

Man its a treat to be able to watch Man U Vs Roma, Chelsea Vs Valencia and WI Vs Sth Africa all at the click of a button. I think I almost broke the remote the amount I was flicking between the 3.

P.s Chelsea (Essien) that was a lovely goal to pick me up an unexpected $50! Cheers!!!

I saw that on the late news here last night. Trouble outside the ground. Ordinary!

Hope Spurs fans are well behaved tonight!

Watched the start of the 2nd half of boring Bayern and mundane Milan. Fell back to sleep after 15 mins of the mind numbing tripe served up - even after 2 strong coffees!

Wish the Reds game was on!

Can't wait for Spurs game!

Amazing result by Milan to go to Allianz and win 2-0. At least that game was still alive which is why they didn't have Liverpool's game on, that was all over after the away leg.

Pretty exciting Semi matchup's, barring any major injury or booking mishaps I'd expect to see a Chelsea v Man U final (hope I'm wrong about the Chelsea bit).

Actually Chelsea deserve some fair credit, having been much publicised this season for owner/manager relations, sub-par form (at times) they are still a realistic chance for the biggest of treble's (actually, didn't they win the League Cup also?).

And you call yourself a Red CP? Shame on you mate.

There is not a team in Europe that can beat Liverpool over two legs at the minute. Playing at the Bridge in the first leg, with Essien missing, will see the reds grab a draw at the very least. Back to Anfield to finish them off in front of the world's greatest fans.

Liverpool v United in the final, no worries.

LOL .. I knew I would be copping it over that post ... Sorry mate, but I'm never a confident supporter at the best of times (lol the weirdest exception to that was at halftime of the 2005 CL Final when I told a mate "I'm having too good a night for us to lose this, we'll make history here").

I just think Liverpool carry this certain aura that get's them up in Europe, but I don't think said Aura holds the same effect over Chelsea.

JTC, any news on how severe Bellamy's knee injury is?? Didn't look good on the box this morning!

Man Utd would have no trouble at all beating Liverpool over two legs, you can't even beat us at Anfield !!!!
As for 'world's greatest fans'.. Liverpool fans remind me of the Barmy Army at times, don't really care about the fact they rarely win anything they are more concerned over having the best fans ever.

US? Which part of Manchester are you from Marty? Or are you from London like a lot of the 'fans' that go to watch United?

Liverpool smashed United at Anfield, even Sir Alex said so. Goal scoring is now not an issue so United would not worry me in the slightest.

As far as rarely winning anything......

League Championships - 18
FA Cups - 7
League/Milk Cup - 7
Charity Shield - 10
European Cup/Champions League - 5
Super Cup - 2
UEFA Cup - 3

Having wonderful supporters and a breathtaking stadium comes naturally, without effort needed.

Old Trafford is Britain's biggest library, shhhhhhhhhh!

You can only envy 'us'.
