Yeah maxi used to be a handy player but since he has been at liverpool he couldnt hit the side of a barn door. Birmingham were very ordinary and on that performance and their last few weeks they will do well to stay up

Was a pretty classy finish in the end, I'm pretty worried about how effective he'll be when he re-captures form.

Geez Brum must be struggling if Liverpool can get 4 from Pepsi Maxi and Nat King Cole

He wont recapture his form. Abromovichs politics will kill him. Shevchenko was far better than torres and chelski killed him, they have a history of turning supetstars into duds

I guess we'll have to wait and see bud, but I reckon Torres has too much class and natural ability not to find the net regularly once he finds his comfort zone.

He actually finds himself in some good positions, but his finishing at times has been appallingly sloppy and/or low quality .. I think he has enough ability to be a decent player, he just (for whatever reason) hasn't been producing it consistently enough.

Agreed i remember watching him for the argies and thinking who is this guy, played a few blinders and i thought he would be a massive boost for liverpool. Maybe he is repaying the faith dalglish has in him

That was the same thought I had whilst typing out my previous post .. I think maybe the Dalglish factor has markedly improved the happiness and spirit around the place, and it's shown on the pitch.

Obviously we still have a fair whack of improvement required to finish top 4 next season or contend for higher honours, but I think we're deffo moving in the right direction.

Top 4 certainties next year i reckon. We maybe the ones to drop off unless glazer puts his hands in his pockets. We need to recruit another defender and midfielder and need an excellant keeper. Dont think people will realise how much we will miss VDS. Our next keeper will be a massive decision and hope we dont have the problems with keepers like we did when scmeichel retired.

IMO i see torres going on a scoring run. The monkey is off his back now. Im glad we dont see Chelsea again this year and the game between Man Utd and Chelsea at old traff will be a good game to watch now.

Rooney was great also, always looks dangerous.

Huge win, thought it would be another 0-0 for a while there.

Wasn't offside Marty. Perfectly good goal although they had a bit of luck with the deflected cross that put the ball perfectly for him.

Clear penalty at the other end. Ferdinand was just too slow.

Chicharito must be the find of the season. United paid a paltry £6m for him and when you compare that to he £50m Chelsea paid for Torres, he looks terrific value for money

I think Brum will be safe Jim. There's just too much crap below them and not enough games left

I'm a little worried about Utd on the run in. We just look a little short on creativity at the moment. I know Fergie is rotating the squad heavily as we are playing 2-3 games a week but we were pretty lucky i thought to get 3 pts last night.

I really hope that is the last time we see Gibson and Evans in a Utd shirt.

Hernandez would be up there with Solskjaer as Fergies greatest bargain buy. Only critisism really is that he probably doesnt do enough in general buildup play but i am sure he will improve with that over time. His movement and runs off the ball are world class tho.

Cough cough
Cantona for 1 mill, best buy ever in EPL, basically won us the league of his own back.
Think Ronaldo was just over a mill and Scmeichel was about 700,000

Far out, I didn't realise you got Cantona that cheaply .. I mean I know that 1 Mil back then doesn't hold the same value as today, but thats still dirt cheap.

I thought Ronaldo was around the 8 million quid mark (still bloody cheap)

Sorry i meant just over 10 mill for ronaldo, left a zero off
Not bad considering we got a few trophies and sold him for over 80 mill.

Arsenals title hopes over after limp performance against bolton. Bolton also had a penalty saved but scored 90th minute winner. They need to regroup saturday for visit of united because there is a very realustic chance they could miss out on automatic CL spot. If city win their 2 games in hand they will only be 2 pts behind in chase for last automatic CL spot

prior to our last 2 games v chelsea and liverpool we had scraped 7 points from 3 games

i think we will just survive

we are currently 4 points above the drop

we play at home v wolves - a must win - gets us to 41

then we travel to newcastle - we lose

we have fulham at home - would like to think we could get a draw at the very least - 42

finally away to spurs - we will lose that
Matty Wade is a star and deserves more respect from the forum family!

We haven't had any news from our "illustrious" neighbours down the road for some time so here's a quick update.

As I understand (and this is from a pretty reliable source), the Venke family, who are big in chicken farming in India and supply people like KFC, bought the club for around £5m which was basically the assets, and the debts. The Walker trust just wanted out as Jack's kids didn't have the same affinity as their father nor do they have the same sense of community spirit.

They got rid of Sam Allardyce and replaced him with their own man who just happened to be a good friend of the consultants advising Venke's on the buyout.

The club is actually owned by the sister and not the two brothers who run the chicken business, effectively ring fencing the club as a business.

Recently they have mortgaged the club, it's ground and the training facilities at Brockhall for £70m, giving up the balance of this years TV money as collateral along with, of course, all the assets.

They have used some of the money to clear some debts but no one knows where the rest of the money has gone.

The manager has been told he won't be getting any significant funds for the transfer Market whether they stay up or not.

All of this is allegedgedly of course
