This is tuning out to be a big week in the EPL relegation zone.

b4st4rds, WBA, Boro, Stoke all lose.

Newcastle, City and Sunderland all win. If Spurs win (and I know it's a big IF), there could be a little gap forming again.

Stoke btw have not won in 34 EPL away games. Who could possibly back Stoke to win at Sunderland today

Ease up turbo!! ;)

Liverpool = STINGY!!!
Torres = STINGY!!!

Very annoyed. Chelsea cannot buy a goal at the moment, but Liverpool can score in the 90th minute to get a stingy win.

Disgarceful behaviour from the so called Chavski fans. Chanting Scolari out and holding up banners whilst booing ther own team.

What short memories they have. FFS, you are 4th ( ) in the EPL, still in the CL, and you boo your own players. Where were you 5 years ago, nowhere that's where (huh :? ). you have bneen spoilt and now you are acting like spoilt brats.

Round Up

Fernando Torres came off the bench to head Liverpool back to the top of Premier League pile after a thrilling 3-2 victory over luckless Portsmouth at Fratton Park.
Rafa Benitez started the game with a 5-3-2 formation as he left the likes of Torres, Dirk Kuyt and Xabi Alonso on the bench, although one of the replacements - Fabio Aurelio - came close with a free-kick which brushed the post in the first half.
An offside flag spared Ryan Babel's blushes when he missed the ball in front of an open goal before Pompey took the lead on 62 minutes.
Former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch slipped in David Nugent behind the defence and the in-form forward placed his shot beyond an exposed Jose Reina.
But Crouch then contributed to his old club's equaliser on 69 minutes as David James was forced to handle his poor back-pass and Aurelio smashed home the free-kick.
Yet Pompey regained the initiative on 78 minutes when Nadir Belhadj swung in a free-kick from the right and Hermann Hreidarsson guided his header past Reina, who should have done better.
More poor defending from Pompey allowed Liverpool to level for a second time on 85 minutes as Sylvain Distin failed to cut out a pass and, from Torres' pull-back, fellow substitute Kuyt blasted a shot inside James' near post.
And Liverpool boss Benitez will feel his selection decisions were justified when, in the second minute of stoppage-time, Yossi Benayoun clipped back a cross which Torres headed past James at the near post.

Hull City again thwarted a member of the 'big four' away from home after battling to a 0-0 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea should have been in front in the early stages, but John Terry lifted his shot over from close range before Tigers keeper Matt Duke produced a fine save to deny debutant Ricardo Quaresma.
Brave defending kept the Tigers on level terms and the visitors almost snatched a goal before half-time when Kevin Kilbane's header brushed the post.
The visitors had a golden chance to take the lead in the second half as Geovanni played in Dean Marney, but he dragged his shot just wide of the far post.
And moments later, Chelsea were denied a penalty when Salomon Kalou's well-struck shot hit the arm of Tigers full-back Andy Dawson.

Aston Villa moved above Chelsea into third in the table after inflicting a first defeat on B4st4rd Rovers boss Sam Allardyce following a 2-0 win at Ewood Park.
Emile Heskey had a goal disallowed for a push on Chris Samba before Villa took the lead on 27 minutes through James Milner.
The Villa winger exchanged a short corner with Gareth Barry before cutting into the box and firing a left-footed shot across goal, which Morten Gamst Pedersen should probably have cleared at the far post.
Villa made the points safe in the final minute when Gabriel Agbonlahor, who had a goal disallowed for offside in the first half, saw his shot deflect past Paul Robinson after a poor clearance from Stephen Warnock.

Newcastle provided manager Joe Kinnear with a timely fillip after a 3-2 victory at West Brom in an entertaining encounter at the Hawthorns.
Kinnear was taken to hospital on the morning of the game after complaining of being unwell and it was left to assistant Chris Hughton to mastermind a vital win.
A blistering start at the Hawthorns saw three goals in the opening nine minutes with Newcastle in front after barely 60 seconds when Damien Duff slotted his shot through Scott Carson's legs after Leon Barnett had made a mess of cutting out Shola Amoebi's pass.
West Brom were level on four minutes as Marc-Antoine Fortune turned away from some limp defending by Steven Taylor before firing a low left-footed drive beyond Steve Harper.
But the Magpies were back in front on nine minutes when Peter Lovenkrands marked his first start for the club by guiding the ball home after Ryan Taylor's volley had ricocheted into his path.
Ryan Taylor was the architect of Newcastle's third goal on 41 minutes when he curled in a corner from the left and Steven Taylor squeezed his header inside the post.
The Baggies pulled a goal back on 73 minutes when substitute Felipe Teixeira slipped a pass into Fortune and he smashed his shot across Harper.

New signing Jo put a difficult start to life in the Premier League behind him with a brace as Everton beat Bolton 3-0 at Goodison Park.
Jo made a significant contribution on his Everton debut as he theatrically tumbled over Andy O'Brien's leg five minutes before half-time and Mikel Arteta made no mistake from the penalty spot.
Brazilian striker Jo, who has joined on loan from Man City, was in the thick of it again on 49 minutes as he brought a long ball under control, with the aid of a Bolton defender, and lashed a shot past the exposed Jussi Jaaskelainen.
And in the final minute, Jo slammed a penalty past Jaaskelainen after Bolton new boy Mark Davies was penalised for handling a cross.

Sunderland are now seven points clear of the relegation zone after a 2-0 win over Stoke at the Stadium of Light.
Injuries forced Stoke to make three substitutions inside the opening half-hour and the visitors then had a lucky escape before half-time.
Andy Reid chipped a cross to the far post where Steed Malbranque was waiting unmarked and his header was stopped on the line by Danny Pugh's arm, but neither the referee nor the linesman spotted the infringement which would have resulted in the Stoke substitute's dismissal.
Stoke were down to 10 men on 65 minutes when winger Matthew Etherington was sent off for kicking out at Danny Collins as the duo tussled for the ball.
And Sunderland capitalised 12 minutes from time when Reid swung in a deep cross to the far post which Jones headed down and inside the upright, with former Black Cats keeper Thomas Sorensen probably thinking he should have done better.
Jones created the second goal in injury-time as his cross-shot was tucked away at the far post by substitute David Healy for his first Premier League goal for the club.

Middlesbrough have now gone 13 games without a Premier League win after slipping to a 1-0 defeat at Manchester City.
Stephen Ireland was denied by the crossbar in the first half for City, while the hosts' new signing Shay Given thwarted Middlesbrough striker Afonso Alves on three separate occasions.
City made the decisive breakthrough six minutes into the second half when Craig Bellamy cut into the box from the right and flashed a low, left-footed drive beyond Brad Jones.
Boro's best chance of an equaliser fell at the feet of Alves again, but the Brazilian striker's curling effort from the edge of the box was turned away by the impressive Given.

Fulham are still awaiting their first away win of the season after claiming a 0-0 draw at Wigan in a game of few chances.

Round Up

Liverpool travelled to the Riverside having triumphed away to Real Madrid in midweek but were undone by an impressive Middlesbrough display.
Xabi Alonso's own goal handed Boro the lead in the 32nd minute when Stewart Downing's corner from the left flew into the heart of the box and struck the Spain international's thigh before flying beyond a diving Jose Reina.
Nabil El Zhar, starting in place of the injured Fernando Torres, passed up a glorious opportunity to equalise early in the second half when he fired over the bar from close range after Steven Gerrard had cut the ball back from the by-line.
And Boro made it 2-0 just after the hour mark when Tuncay provided the finishing touch to Jeremie Aliadiere's ball into the box after he had been released by Gary O'Neil.
Dirk Kuyt then passed up another glorious opportunity to find the net for the Reds as he totally missed the ball with the goal at his mercy from close range from another Gerrard cross, with the Reds skipper later limping out of the action.

Chelsea had midfielder Lampard to thank after his late header denied stubborn Wigan a point at Stamford Bridge with Guus Hiddink's men claiming a 2-1 success.
John Terry struck a spectacular volley from the edge of the box in the 25th minute after Emmerson Boyce headed Lampard's cross away, although the ball took a slight deflection off the Latics defender as it flew beyond Chris Kirkland.
The England international was later denied by Kirkland with Michael Ballack flagged offside before Titus Bramble cleared his follow-up off the line, with the Latics defender also on hand to deny Didier Drogba after the break.
Steve Bruce's men were back on terms eight minutes from time when Olivier Kapo clipped Maynor Figueroa's superb low cross to the near post beyond Petr Cech.
With time running out Ballack flicked on a long ball into the box and Lampard looped a header over Kirkland to the delight of the Stamford Bridge faithful.

Arsenal's all-too familiar failing of being unable to find the back of the net was in evidence once again in their Emirates Stadium stalemate against Fulham.
The Gunners dominated for much of the match and created the better opportunities but were unable to find a way beyond Mark Schwarzer.
It was a fifth successive Premier League draw for the North London club and the fourth that has ended 0-0, further denting their hopes of climbing back into the Premier League's top four.
While the Cottagers are yet to win on their travels this season Roy Hodgson will be more than happy to take four points against Arsenal this term.

West Brom remain rooted to the foot of the Premier League table with Everton boosting their European hopes by claiming a 2-0 success at Goodison Park.
Leighton Baines swung over a free-kick from the left and three Everton players were left totally unmarked in the box with Tim Cahill rising unchallenged to head beyond a bemused Scott Carson.
Tony Mowbray's men attempted to respond and Everton required a cool goalline clearance from Phil Jagielka to stay in front just before the hour mark after Ryan Donk's back-post header looked destined for the back of the net.
Substitute Louis Saha made it 2-0 after more shoddy defending from the Baggies presented him with the ball, although the French striker produced a superb turn to create space before curling a shot beyond the diving Carson from outside the box.
Luke Moore stepped off the bench to give the West Brom attack fresh impetus and rattled the bar with a superb late strike, but the Baggies could not avoid slipping to an 11th away defeat of the season.

b4st4rds boosted their survival hopes and added to Hull City's growing concerns with a 2-1 success at the KC Stadium, where both teams finished the match with 10 men.
Rovers forged ahead with two goals in four minutes before the interval as Matt Duke's error allowed Roque Santa Cruz to set up Stephen Warnock, before the midfielder crossed for Keith Andrews to slot home in the 37th minute.
Phil Brown provoked anger from the home fans and Geovanni when he removed the Brazilian from the fray in the second half, before Dean Marney received a straight red card for kicking out at Morten Gamst Pedersen.
The Norwegian, who was booked for his part in the incident, was next down the tunnel for an early bath following a second booking for catching Kamil Zayatte.
Ian Ashbee pulled one back with 11 minutes to go when he hit the back of the net after a short corner had been clipped into the box by Bernard Mendy, but the home side could not fashion an equaliser.

Stoke staged a remarkable recovery as they hit back from 2-0 down at Aston Villa to snatch a point with two goals in the final three minutes.
Villa took the lead moments before the half-time whistle when James Milner cut across the Potters' box and found Stiliyan Petrov, who drilled home a powerful shot which flew beyond Thomas Sorensen.
And Petrov then played a part in substitute John Carew's superb second as he lifted the ball into the big striker on the edge of the box, and he lobbed replacement goalkeeper Steve Simonsen with a stunning first-time volley.
But the Potters refused to lie down and Ryan Shawcross gave them hope when he headed home James Beattie's cross three minutes from the end before substitute Glenn Whelan fired home from the edge of the area in time added on.

Bolton celebrated the news that manager Gary Megson had signed a new rolling contract with a 1-0 home victory over Newcastle.
Ricardo Gardner stepped off the bench at half-time to superbly sweep home Matt Taylor's cross just two minutes after entering the fray.
The Trotters have climbed to 10th in the table on the back of this success while the Magpies are now just two points above the drop zone.

Craig Bellamy endured a miserable return to former club West Ham with Manchester City slipping to a 1-0 defeat at Upton Park and the striker limping out of the action midway through the second period.
Jack Collison scored the only goal of the game in the 71st minute when he deftly lobbed home after City goalkeeper Shay Given could only parry Savio's curling shot from the edge of the box.
Hammers midfielder Valon Behrami suffered a worrying injury in the first period after catching his studs in the turf and was stretchered off in obvious pain with heavy strapping around his knee and ankle following lengthy treatment on the field.

Round Up

Prior to United's trip to St James' Park on an icy North East night, Edwin van der Sar had not been beaten in the league since early November when Samir Nasri dispatched a brace at the Emirates.
The goal that ended a run of 1,311 minutes without conceding will not cover the Dutchman in glory. Newcastle's lively winger Jonas Gutierrez hit an 11th minute shot that had neither zip nor venom but after flapping the Argentine's effort horribly, Peter Lovenkrands was on hand to prod home from close range.
Newcastle's football was bright and inventive as Obafemi Martins fired into the side netting, before United upped the ante and levelled on the 20 minute mark as Wayne Rooney bamboozled Fabricio Coloccini with an exquisite touch with his right, before firing past Steve Harper with his left - via a slight deflection off Steven Taylor.
An entertaining contest was settled in the 56th minute when Park ji-Sung capitalised on a terrible Ryan Taylor error to sneak in front of Harper and roll the ball into the path of Berbatov, who had the simple task of tapping home.
The result leaves Manchester United seven points clear at the summit, with Sir Alex Ferguson's side having a game in hand on both Chelsea and Liverpool.

Manchester City were entirely dominant at Eastlands in the first half as Aston Villa looked like a side whose congested fixture list is catching up with them.
Elano's 24th minute penalty, awarded after James Milner brought down Shaun Wright-Phillips, was no less than a Robinho-less City deserved.
Villa improved slightly after the interval but City made sure of the spoils at the death, when an exquisite one-two saw Steven Ireland play in Wright-Phillips for a deserved second.

At White Hart Lane Tottenham showed no Carling Cup hangover in thumping Middlesbrough 4-0, but on this showing Gareth Southgate could need a drink soon.
A combination of Tottenham's fluency in attack and Boro's lack of coherence at the back saw the home side cruising at the break as Robbie Keane, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Aaron Lennon all etched their names on the scoresheet.
Keane opened the floodgates as he poked home Michael Dawson's flick-on from a corner, before Luka Modric's delivery from the right proved inch-perfect for Pavlyuchenko no more than a few yards from goal.
With Boro ragged it was left for Lennon to beat Brad Jones at his near post from Keane's cute pass. And it was the same two that combined after half-time, as the England winger dinked home a sumptuous fourth.

James Beattie is a striker at the top of his game as his fifth goal in seven matches put Stoke City ahead at the Britannia Stadium in the 14th minute. Glenn Whelan's looping header dissected a Bolton backline poorly positioned and with an unnerving finish, the one-time England cap beat Jussi Jaaskelainen.
With Stoke buoyant in playing a typically high-tempo game, Ricardo Fuller secured a maximum haul when he stepped from substitutes' bench to rifle home from close range after Jaaskelainen had parried Whelan jackhammer of a strike from range.

Carlton Cole's goal for West Ham embodied everything Gianfranco Zola has attempted to drill into his players, with a fine passing move culminating in the England man beating Wigan goalkeeper Chris Kirkland with an excellent finish from David Di Michele's sublime touch.
It was, though, a mixed night for Cole as his participation stretched to just another three minutes. A second yellow card, for a high challenge on Emmerson Boyce, brought down a curtain on his evening in the 37th minute.
The Hammers were not at a numerical disadvantage for long though, as Lee Cattermole showed a recklessness that will infuriate his manager Steve Bruce in going through the back of Scott Parker and receiving his marching orders in the 52nd minute.

Blackburn's draw with Everton sees them drop into the bottom three, with Jason Roberts squandering the game's best chance in the second half of what was an instantly forgettable game.

Hull City had to weather Fulham pressure for long spells in West London but in the final minute Phil Brown was the manager left smiling after Richard Garcia's cross from the left was stabbed in by fellow sub Manucho.

Round Up

Chelsea closed the gap on Barclays Premier League leaders Manchester United thanks to a 79th-minute strike by Didier Drogba at Portsmouth.
The Ivorian pounced to curl a low right-footed shot into the corner of the net for ther only goal of the game after Portsmouth had failed to clear a Jose Bosingwa cross.
Pompey squandered two great second-half chances to earn a vital win.
