You could probably ask for a few more wins? :D

Not trying to be a smartass, but whilst beating up on a hapless Wigan would no doubt have been a buzz to watch as a Spurs fan, you surely would have your sights set on bigger fish to fry?

yes wigan arent that great this season. Will struggle to win another game. But not taking anything away from the totts scoring 12 times against one team is not bad

Yet an article in the weekend Tiser listed him around 16th best player to watch at the World Cup :D

That's interesting. Defoe should be on the plane to SA. BUT, will he play?

Rooney will play every minute against every team you'd expect. But Defoe and Rooney won't play together. Hesky is an option, but it's Hesky and I think Capello can see straight through him.

I can't see Capello taking Owen though, so Defoe is probably fine on that front.

Who else is there to partner Rooney? Kevin Davies? Bobby Zamora? Darren Bent? Peter Crouch  ?

I just can't see England starting (or finishing) with Rooney & Defoe up front.

Personally I was staggered that DeFoe made a list missing names like Gerrard and Lampard

Yeah, but how many times have you seen Gerrard or Lampard put on a clinic for their country.

Sure, they're amazing at club level and often in big games, but on the national stage, they're generally a big miss.

No question, but ask 100 people who they would select first in their team out of Gerrard, Lampard or DeFoe and I reckon it's a bit of a no-brainer ... Has DeFoe really put on a clinic that often for the Poms?

I can comment on Lamps in England games, but I wouldn't say Gerrard's been a big miss at all ... Sure much quieter than for the team he's had to carry on his own shoulders for a decade, but he's not been a stinker.

Using that same train of thought Ronaldo has been much quieter with Portugal than what we saw from him in Man U colours.

Absolutely no question that I'd pick Gerrard and Lampard and daylight ahead of Defoe. And you're right, Defoe hasn;t ever put on a clinic in England colours. But on the flip side, he hasn;t had many chances to do that either. The article was probably trying to make the point that if he gets game time, he's one to watch.

It's true too, Defoe is a great entertainer, even when he's having a stinker. He'll get called offside 10 times. He'll be a filthy prick in tackles. He'll sledge defenders. He'll get sent off.

But give him half a chance and he'll score. And if he decides to turn up and play football, there aren;t many defenders in the world that could control him.

On Ronaldo, from memory he was great at the Euros in 2004 and at the World Cup in 2006. His 2008 Euro campaign wasn't great. Personally, I'd pick him well before Stevie G or Lumpard

Yeah fair call on all fronts mate, wasn't trying to have a go at JD (because to be honest I've always rated his ability), just thought his standing in that article was a little too lofty.

He's definitely not the 16th best player to watch in South Africa!

I can think of 11 Australian's for a start!!!!!!

Oh dear, Spurs may be down a player or two tomorrow night...
soccernet.espn.go.com wrote:Tottenham's preparations for the Premier League clash against Everton have been disrupted by a virus at the club.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp held his pre-match media duties at White Hart Lane instead of the usual venue of the training ground.

He said: "We've closed the training ground. Everything is off limits. We're just going to train there and that's it."

Also heard that Defoe may be carrying an injury too.

I think Spurs would be the last thing on Wengers mind, particularly after the Chelsea loss last night has thrown the title race wide open.

I can't believe that goal that Gomes let in last night. Is he really the best keeper that we have?

I know that he has been playing well, and we have had a few clean sheets lately. But that was school boy stuff .

If you look at his performances over the season, he's been absolutely outstanding for us.

I'm actually glad that he has the occasional flap (I think he's had 2 this entire season) and that the media keeps bleating on about it relentlessly, because if they didn't Fergie would be in for him.

Gomes - best keeper we've had at the Lane since the 80's.

Great win by Spurs last night. Funny thing was I had a dream that we had lost 3-1! Glad that didn't come true. :D

Now we just need Sunderland to beat Man City tonight.

Tuned in for the 2nd half of the Spurs v Blackburn game on the weekend, and I have to say that for several years now, from a neutral fan's perspective, I reckon Spurs games have always been the easiest to watch ... Actually think that has been part of their problem in previous years, dangerous near goal, flashy in midfield, leaky in defence.

Was an entertaining game yet again on Sat night.

I stayed up and watched the game on Sat night - I love that early game timeslot! It's so much easier to stay awake and still operate on Sunday (or get absolutely written at Clipsal as the case may be  )

Good performance by Spurs. We created lots of chances down the left via Gareth Bale who gave Salgardo a football lesson. Bale is becoming an absolute star.

Roman Pavlyuchenko showed his best and worst. He should have scored 4-5 goals, but hey, 2 will do! His missed volleys were both deplorable, but fortunately his 2nd miss was followed up with a goal about 15 seconds later. Only a miraculous bit of defending by Christopher Samba, who evidently seems to have inspector-gadget style extendable legs, prevented Super Pav from claiming his hattrick. I really hope we hang onto him over summer. He's embarassing Harry for not playing him all season!

The one downer was our calamatous defending for their goal. One moment of lost concentration and weak opposition can put one past us and get back into the game. Dawson should have been tracking Samba the whole time. Gomes should have been more aware of the players around him and stayed on his line - he got nowhere near the cross.

Anyhoo, great win in light of both Villa and Citeh dropping points. Hopefully Pompey can pull a rabbit out of the hat against Liverpoo!
