Benitez finally ready to sign his five-year deal with Liverpool
Rafael Benitez is expected to sign his five-year deal by the end of next week.
The Liverpool manager and his advisers seem unlikely to reach total agreement with the club in time for a morale-boosting announcement ahead of Saturday's game against Manchester United. Benitez instead will finalise terms after the game.
He said: 'I have a contract with Liverpool and I owe the club. Next week I will sit down with my bosses and study the future plans. I have to make a decision in two weeks.'
Fresh from the 4-0 trouncing of Real Madrid, the Anfield boss defended his Barclays Premier League record against United.
He said: 'Competing in the Premier League with Manchester United and Chelsea is difficult. I am not a cry-baby. They have the money to sign five £20million players and so, if one or two don't work out, they are still left with three more. I only have resources to sign two. I am still a young coach (49 next month) and I am not able to guess what will happen. Real Madrid is a big club, but I am at another massive club and that motivates me.'
i knew he would, knew that all the talk about him not siging was all s***t. knew that it was only a matter of time before he signed a new deal. GOOD i say, might be better for them in the long run, should be good for tonight aswell. Personally i see all the pressure on fergies men, Its their title to loose now. Also saw a interview with fergie about them winning 5 cups this season, he said ' no one here talks about that, and that would be impossible, and we arent looking towards 5 cups' what a load of s***t. im 99% sure he is thinking they will win everything.
Couple of points mate ..
1) I reckon Rafa managed to get some of the changes he needed, most notibly, the removal of Parry ... I honestly believe Rafa is the type of bloke who would stand by his complusory needs, and without any sort of change there's every chance he may not have re-seigned.
2) Fergie and Man U .. Yes they are in the running for 5 trophies, and may well win them all, but I don't think they would be discussing it too much ... They would have (if not publicly, at least privately) prioritised the remaining trophies, I'd imagine in order of Premiership, Champs League then FA Cup with the first two being key, if they only end up with 4 Trophies but it includes the first 2, I don't think they'd be too upset at missing out on the 5th.
