Confirmed on the Arsenal website yesterday, Robin Van Persie out for 4 months after surgery to ankle injury. Surgery went well but will take a long time to recover.

And so ends Arsenal's season. Two big losses against Chelsea, who looked a class above Arsenal, and then at City. I guess the lack of depth was always going to be a problem for Arsenal. much the same problem as Liverpool.

fantastic win by the gooners today, bloody awesome :D :D

gallas tackle on gerrard in LFCs box in 13th minute was a penalty , we got away with that one but im sure if it was the other way round then arsenal supporters including me would be pissed

Arshavin's goal was sublime. He LOVES playing Liverpool.
Gooners still in the title hunt after the weekends results IMO, but they're a definite outsider.
Liverpool are looking up against it for top 4 given the way Citeh are travelling.

You have only played 1 extra away game!

Your next game is away but you then have 4 home games in the next 5 matches.

OK, I thought I'd put this in the correct thread:

Bulldog wrote:hmmm not sure where your getting this info that if we miss CL we will crumble in debt??

not true whomever is telling you this or wherever your getting your info. Arsenal maybe in debt, but it because of the recent building of the land of gods ( Emirates ) not because of player paymentstransfers. hence the reason wenger is not buying big up on players, and that will change when the stadium is paid off, in the next few years. But there is no problem with the club missing CL. Maybe it will wake wenger up if we do so he WILL buy some more good players. IMO i not a fan of champions league, champions league should be for the CHAMPIONS , not 2nd, 3rd, 4th placings.

Sorry mate, but that's the biggest load of rubbish post I've seen on here.

Arsenal's stadium debt is absolutely enourmous. That's the reason Whinger isn't buying players - because he can't. Do some reaserch - Arsenal's financial results and media commentary document quite clearly the extent of the debt burden. they don't call it 'Cashburden Grove' for nothing.

When you say there is no problem with the club missing CL, do you realise that CL football is worth bewteen 30-50m quid to a participating club? If you take say 40m out of Arsenal's income, they are FFFFFFFFFFF'ed. Absolutely F'ed.

To add to the importance of CL, when players are approached for a transfer, if a club can offer CL, that's a huge incentive for that player to make the switch. That's something that clubs like Spurs, Villa, Everton, Newcastle and to a lesser extent Citeh have all found as a stumbling block in recruiting and retaining the top echelon of players and managers.

If you're not such a big fan of CL - we'll hapilly take the burden off your hands and wheel it down the road!!!

again, you are getting you facts from **** knows whom or who?? wenger doesnt buy players that cost to much because he does not want to cripple the club in debt over PLAYERS.this was stated and by him ages ago, and alos on the website. take the CL off our hands , i IMO cant stand the comp, but im one supporter. im aware of the financial money that comes with the CL. any one is and for your media confrence, whatever your going on about for arsenals debt over the stadium, thats correct i posted that. this will be gone sooner rather then later. im stating that we ARENT in debt because of player payments and transfer fees, only because of the stadium. which will be paid off soon., and how would you know about if wenger can buy players or not? i think your just hearing rumours

Bully, have a look through the Arsenal Financial Results for last year:

http://www.arsenal.com/the-club/corporate-info/arsenal-holdings-financial-results

The results highlight a number of problems at Arsenal despite the positive spin the exects have put through the wording of the report:

Outstanding debt on the stadium at the end of 2009 is 245m quid. During the year, the club repaid 5m quid from the principle. You do the maths - it's going to be a bit longer than 'soon' before that debt is paid off at that rate.

Further compounding problems is the delays and extremely slow sales of the Highbury square development, Arsenal had to apply to the bank for an extension to their repayment terms. If you have a read of how many of the big banks and financial institutions fell over during the 'credit crunch' it was the inability to refinince debt obligations when they fell due. Arsenal has been fortunate in being able to renegotiate their repayment dates, but a failure to have done this could have seen the club wound up.

I understand you are saying the club is not in debt on player transfers. However, their costs in that area increased by 20m quid during the year despite the sale of 3 of the clubs best players. When your costs exceed your income = DEBT!

Finally, have a read through and note all the mentions of the importance of increased revenue from the UEFA Champions League. there are at least half a dozen times where the execs have stressed the importance of this income to the club's results.

In short, despite the positive spin put on it, Arsenal's financial position is far from healthy.

DA, i agree with you in regards to the stadium debt, and have seen that URL that you posted alot earlier then yourself, believe it or not i dont care. Im saying that YOU said Arsene wenger doesnt buy player because he CANT. thats not the correct fact which i am trying to prove. Stated on the website and in other URLs that i cant find at this point in time state that Arsene doesnt buy players that are to expensive because he doesnt want to cripple the club in debt over PLAYERS/Transfer fees etc.

I agree with you we are in debt, only because of the stadium and your statesment in regards to wenger not buying expensive players because he cant is incorrect. the correct fact is that he doesnt want to because he does not want to cripple the club in debt over players.

Not going to continue arguing over this.
