to be honest i reckon he was in his prime with palace, he hasnt seemed to capture it since he'd left there in 06.

The Toff's do a good job of killing their strikers ... James Beattie anyone?

Man Spew won the Community Shield on penalties after Arry's men fluffed 3 of their 4 shots, but in the big game today, Spurs defeated Roma 5-0. 8)

The penalty attempts by Pompey were terrible, what a shame Cardiff didn't force the FA Cup Final into a shootout!!

Hermann should have been sent off and given away a penalty for that disgraceful grab of Tevez's leg.

How ****** is Italian football?!? Only friendly games but Chelsea 5 Milan 0, Spurs 5 Roma 0!

Hermann is claiming in the UK press that Tevez stamped on him. I didn't see it though, but most Man U fans are annoyed at not receiving a spot kick for it.

Nothing wrong with Italian football, Spurs are just miles ahead!

For the record, Man Citeeh beat AC Milan 1-0 too.

Latest out of Anfield is that the Yank owners think Barry is too overpriced (wow, probably the first time I've agreed with them) and they aren't prepared to shell out the 18mil for him [-o< But in the hope of avoiding a repeat of last years clash with Rafa they're believed to have okayed the funds to go after Valencia's Silva (although it's believed they will have to compete with Man U for him, which would make him an unlikely prospect then one would think).

CP I love it how those wankers think that Barry's overpriced and step in to do business for Rafa. While I agree that £18m is borderline a bit rich for Barry (although we paid £15m + contingents odd mil for Bentley and £13m + contingents for Bent  ) I can't believe they dictate to Rafa who can and can't buy through dictating what each player is worth.

Price is what you pay, value is what you get.

IMO, the owners whatever should leave the football department to the Manager. If there's £20m available or whatever, it should be available to the manager to buy players that fit into his plan. Not "Here's £20m. You can spent it on anyone except XYZ player(s)..."

On another huge development surrounding Man Citeh, the following is from a bluemoon fans website:

"I'm sorry to say this, as a life long fan and - for the last few (for me at least) unforgettable months - employee, MCFC as we know it is finished. Here are the FACTS, for those who really want to know. Thaksin is, as of midlnight 10th August, 2008, an international fugitive. He now has to be found guilty of corruption in Thailand in his absense, offering no defence. Extradition requests will surely follow. The PL will then have to find him short of the fit and proper ownership rules (and believe me, the pressure for that from fellow 'members' has been growing since June). Thaksin is trying to palm off City onto whoever will now take it, an insolvent mess of a business, completely incapable of sustaining itself. The truth is that the only interested party (until recently) - Wardle - is not now able to bail City out now , he cant come close on his own and no partners have been found. The wage bioll and committments due on the last 2 years' transfers have spiralled out of control. The Corluka affair is the last straw - I personally worked on the deal and can assure anyone interested that he has already been transferred to Spurs. Spurs have this evening started legal action, and he will be barred from playing for City following an injunction in the courts tomorrow. Personally I expect Hughes to then resign on principal (he has no choice now, he is on record as saying that he wilol have final say on all transfers). Many wont believe any of this, but a few will. I am very close to this situation (readers will never know who I am or how close - a few would know my name but it isnt appropriate to for me to come 'out') - trust me, I am close enough to know what has happeneded in the last fortnight, I am p*ssed off with it (as a fan, and as someone who has worked hard for the club durinig the ast 18 months or so) and it must be said, a little drunk. I am posting this message on a few sites - apologies for those that keep reading it, but I want City fans to know what is happening. The sad truth is we are finished, and that as a result, the PL will be facing its biggest challenge since inception within 2 weeks of now."

Obviously with this sort of crap, you don't know how much to believe and to ignore, but sheesh, sounds like they're up the crapper!

Very true DA, IMHO a Manager should be given a budget to work with and then buy and sell as he see's fit as at the end of the day he'll sink or swim by his own decisions and management.

That said, I'd be happy to take Barry but I don't reckon he's worth anything over $15m tops.

In other news, Man U rumoured to be a strong chance to sign Thierry Henry ... And Man City's woes sound real bad, possibly in administration by next week according to some reports and likely will need to sell all or most of their best players.

The same comments from the "Sven sacked" thread can almost be rehashed here, Man City started off so well last season but now they are back to being a joke. That is the problem when rich kids buy football clubs for a laugh (Chelsea aside).

I guess we'll just have to wait and see ... Depends which reports you listen to ... Over the eyars I've read:

1. Henry has said he could never play for anyone other than Arsenal in the EPL
2. Henry has said the only other EPL club he would ever consider playing for was Liverpool, because of his regard for their fans.
3. Henry had a falling out with Wenger.
4. And most recently, Man U could well go after him if the Berbatov deal doesn't come off.

Most poms you speak to laugh about how off the mark their own media is, so for an Aussie thats never been there, I have no idea which sources should hold more credibility than others.

I must admit I get most of my news from www.4thegame.com and they have generally been pretty accurate, so I never discount anything from there, but I don't take it as gospel either

After the Champs League Final defeat to Barca, Henry said he would never go to Barca because he doesn't like the way they go about their football....

The Henry thing seems to be gaining legs over here. You blokes are right about Henry's quotes syaing he'd only ever play for the Arse and would never go to Barca. He then turned around and said Barca would suit him though.

And never say never. I never thought Keano would have gone to the Pool and I never though Sol 'Judas' Cambell would have gone to Arsenal.

The current switch on the cards is bloody complicated, and personally I can't see it all happening, but hey who knows what to bloody believe:

Et'o to stay at Barca (despit acting like a schoolgirl all summer)
Henry to Man U.
Berbatov to Barca.
Arshavin to Spurs.

The only losers will be the Russians  .

Aparrently when Berbatov was told he was being subbed at half time in our match against Roma, he spat his 134,573th dummy, had a shower, got changed and left. Ramos, Levy and co are NOT happy.

Not while Arsene is there he wont

On other matters, if the crap wasn;t already hitting the fan at citeh off the field, Darius Vassell is out for up to 8 weeks with a busted knee, their new recruit Jo is at the Olypics with Brazil and Vedran Corluka has handed in a transfer request. They only have Dunne and Richards for CB and I think Richards is suspect too.

Citeh down the shitter well and truly! Would bloody love for them to knock off Fergie again though!
