Liverpool lack the imagination and consistency of Chelsea and Man U (and even Arsenal most of the time) so any mob that visits and keeps their lines at the back are always a chance, and the Hammers did it perfectly, full marks to them.

The "Irons" C_P? Never heard WHU called the Irons before. I'll check that one out. Scun.thorpe are known as the Irons, who happen to play in Claret and Blue.

I believe they are known as the Irons as they were originally founded as Thames Ironworks F.C in 1895...

I've heard them called the Irons before, given the iron hammers in their logo. TR may be onto something too:

Couresty of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Ham_United_F.C.

"West Ham United Football Club is an English football club based in Upton Park, London Borough of Newham, East London. They have played their home matches at the Boleyn Ground stadium since 1904.

The club was originally founded as Thames Ironworks F.C. in 1895 and was later reformed, in 1900 as West Ham United. They initially competed in the Southern League and Western League before joining the full Football League in 1919 and enjoyed their first top flight season in 1923, featuring in the first FA Cup Final to be held at Wembley that year against Bolton Wanderers. The club have won the FA Cup three times: in 1964, 1975 and 1980. They have also been runners-up twice, in 1923 and 2006."

Bag the Captain !!

He may be captain in name but he doesn't lead the team like a captain, watch the Australia game tonight and i guarentee on more than one occasion Lucas Neill will jump in to early, make a bad tackle and then continue with non-stop abuse towards the referee.

And if i have to watch Lucas Neill do a danky little ten to fifteen metre pandsy chip with no pace on it, chest high into the strikers again im going to rip my hair out. At least whip the ball in for crying out loud or even better play a ball on the deck.

I really needed to get that of my chest i think, but yeah his ability to handle pressure is awful, he jumps in at the first sight of being beaten every single time.

I know he made no contact against Italy in the World Cup but he should never have put himself in that position, he just shat himself and at West Ham this season he has already given away 3 penalties for diving in and numerous free kicks on the edge of the box.

 That's a touch harsh.

I propose:

Robbie 'I love the club, shed crocodile tears when we win a cup and am happy to play out my career, but will leave if a big 4 club comes knocking with a silly offer' Keane.
Milan Baros
John Terry
Tottenham's entire current side

Can I perhaps adjust my rating of Lucas Neill in terms of the most overrated footballers to being maybe just more overrated the entire Tottenham side. Tonight Neills was terrible. Sorry lads, but he was pants. I hope it's a case of form is temporary, but it's worrying signs in terms of his EPL form.

Devils Advocate, that is the standard performance Neill has put in since his been at West Ham, how many players did he abuse even though it was his fault for certain things.

The sooner West Ham get rid of him the better. As for making him Captain that is the second worst move in West Ham history, behind sacking the manager that was the winning gaf last night.

I didn't see this mornings game, but I have to agree that Neill is definitely overrated, more so by the Aussie media, but man what a relief we didn't sign him as had been expected.

I don't think the Newcastle Jets would want to pick him up. Maybe the Hills Hawks should put in an offer.

i thought his decision to play for West Ham over Liverpool was the chance to play for such a great club and had nothing to do with money....

he is up there with Cashley Cole, Eboue and El Hadj Diouf as the most hated player in the Premier League. I hope he opts to leave and no-one picks him up.

Poor old Lucas Neill. Scored an own goal (albeit a VERY unlucky one) as Villa were realistically outplayed at Upton Park.

3 pretty disliked players there Swoop. but your last comment is a bit silly, if you don't mind me saying.

Think about it, why would he opt to leave if he didn't already have a gig lined up elsewhere. That'd be like you handing in your resignation at work and then deciding to look for another job ....

So he is never going to just opt to leave. He could end up playing out his contract and then have no other offer, but in the crazy world of football there will always be another sap club / manager around the corner who will give him a deal.

WHU 0 - 1 Man U

Ryan Giggs with a great solo effort.

He has been a great player for Man Uce and scored in every year since he broke into the 1st team

Final score at Upton Park

WHU 0 - 1 Man U.

Not the greatest game this season, but entertaining enough.

WHU had a lot of the ball but just couldn't make it count in the final 3rd. United did what they had to do and Giggs was the difference today, winning man of the match and rightly so.

One question though. how can VDS take 30 odd seconds to take the last goal kick and the ref blows immediately after the kick is taken. After blatantly wasting time by the MU keeper, surely the ref should have added that time on ???

It would be interesting to hear old red nose's after match comments, had the shoe been on the other foot.

Maybe this saga will finally come to an end ???

Thanks to The Daily Mail

West Ham agree to pay Sheffield United £25m to settle the Carlos Tevez affair

West Ham have agreed to pay Sheffield United more than £25million in compensation to bring an end to the Carlos Tevez affair, the real figures only emerging yesterday after initial reports had suggested a considerably smaller sum.

Sportsmail now understands that the troubled east London side will pay the Championship club in the form of a bond over the next four years.

The news will come as a shock to West Ham supporters who no doubt thought their club had escaped potential disaster, given Sheffield United’s original claim of £45m for their relegation from the Barclays Premier League in May 2007.

But West Ham were in no real position to negotiate a far less expensive deal when an independent FA arbitration panel, chaired by Lord Griffiths, were so supportive of Sheffield United in their claim.
