cant u remember that fa cup final couple yrs back against arsenal(either 2001 or 2002)- most blatant handball in the penalty area ive eva seen to deny thierry henry

All evens out in the end.

Remember how the Gunners won the Cup on penalties when they were hopelessly outplayed by United?

being outplayed is one thing but winning when there are deliberate handballs and other fouls involved in the penalty area and for them not to get paid are another.

I would suggest then that your angst be re-directed toward the referee mate ... If someone throws the pill during a game of Aussie Rules and isn't picked up do we blame him or the ump?? A Batsmen is clearly out in cricket but not given, do we blame him or the ump?

when its DELIBERATE i blame both

Thank God for that ... Whilst I like Lucas Neill I don't rate him as highly as the $15 Mil tag or whatever it was West Ham blew on him, they'd wanna be finding a way to stay in the top flight spending money like that

thats quite true, but also the fact that BIRMINGHAM rate UPSON higher then the offer WEST HAM made and the fact that when and if BIRMINGHAM sell UPSON, ARSENAL get 25%

You'd think they will sell him one day or face losing him on a Bosman ... Receiving %75 of a transfer fee is better than nothing at all ... Haven't seen much of him, but if there's a chance his Stock value could still grow then Birmingham in a good position.

in his time at BIRMINGHAM i believe that UPSON is worth everything that he is paid, he is the highest paid player at the club. there was talk that Steve Bruce was under pressure to sell him during the transfer period.

this season unfortunately he has suffered from injury.

he rejected a 5 year contract that birmingham offered him last year.
Matty Wade is a star and deserves more respect from the forum family!

West Ham United

In: Luis Boa Morte (Fulham, undisclosed), Nigel Quashie (West Bromwich Albion, £1.5million), Calum Davenport (Tottenham Hotspur, undisclosed), Lucas Neill (Blackburn Rovers, undisclosed), Kepa Blanco (Sevilla, loan), Matthew Upson (Birmingham City, £6million)

Not sure of the final amount the hammers paid for boa morte, but apparently it was far to rich. Fulham got a good deal here!

Still, you'd expect them to stay in the top flite now.

Yes. Only 2 points behind Wigan, but 7 adrift of Sheffield U, so plenty of work to do.

Check out the Premier League website at the moment. It's showing 22 teams in the topflite with Hibernian and Motherwell both having played a game.

This could be West Hams biggest saviour!!!

From The Age:

Kewell finally ready to return
Email Print Normal font Large font Matthew Hall

HARRY Kewell is finally set to make his long-awaited comeback from a career-threatening injury this week for Liverpool's reserves.

Kewell's star teammates will be preparing to line up in front of a packed Anfield on Wednesday night, taking a 3-0 lead into their quarter-final second- leg against Socceroo Jason Culina's PSV Eindhoven, but Liverpool's Australian will be playing a very different game.

On Tuesday night, he will line up for Liverpool's second-string side in the FA Premiership Reserves League Northern Division against Sheffield United's reserve team.

Liverpool has banned Kewell from speaking publicly about his comeback but club officials confirmed that, barring late advice from club doctors, the Australian would play on Tuesday. It is good news for the Socceroos, who play friendlies against Uruguay and Argentina in June before the Asian Cup in July.

"There was speculation suggesting that over the course of this month Harry would be looking to get back into match action whether it is reserve team or the first team," a Liverpool spokesman told the Sunday Age. "I have not heard anything to say that he has been delayed."

Kewell last took part in a match last June when he scored Australia's equalising goal against Croatia at the World Cup.

Since then, Kewell has been out of action after a series of operations and intense rehabilitation designed to finally cure a complicated chain of injuries that have dogged the star since 2004.

Kewell's personal World Cup campaign ended several days earlier than Australia's exit to Italy after he was struck down immediately after the Croatia game by septic arthritis, a bacterial infection in the joints of his left foot, that was initially incorrectly diagnosed as gout.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has kept Kewell in cotton wool, keen to ensure he will eventually make a contribution to the team. A successful comeback would provide a platform for Kewell to come into late consideration for Liverpool's tilt at its second Champions League title in two years.

Was at Burnley v Cardiff on Saturday. Must have seen a dozen fouls not given and a dozen fouls given for no reason. That's because I have Claret tainted galsses. IMO every fan that watches their team or sport in general will see things the ref doesn't. Thats the way it is and IMO usually gets the crowd more excited than the game itself. It all adds to the spectacle, and is probably one of the reasons they don't want to introduce slo mo replays at the football.

As for handball, in the heat of the moment sometimes it is a natural reaction and not necessarily deliberate cheating. If the ref or his assistants don't see it then tough, play on.

Don't get me wrong, I don't advocate deliberate cheating at any level, just watch the Europeans and tell me you don't get frustrated at the way they spoil the game, but come on, how many (Di Canio whilst at WHU excepted) will put their hand up and go and tell the ref they committed a foul.
