Good point that Connie.

He was out for most of his time at the Galactico too. He has never been the same since he left Leeds

In the last 2 seasons woody played probably 95% of the time, so he's been reasonable for us. But we all knew it would happen eventually.

TREBLE INJURY BLOW FOR LIVERPOOL

Liverpool's hopes of salvaging their season have suffered a serious setback with key trio Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres and Yossi Benayoun all being sidelined.

The club confirmed the three players, all injured in Wednesday's night's humiliating FA Cup loss to Reading, will be out for varying lengths of time up to six weeks.

Star striker Torres is the worst affected, ruled out until the end of February with a torn knee cartilage that will require surgery.

Inspirational captain Gerrard is out for a fortnight with a torn hamstring while Benayoun has fractured a rib and will not play again for around four weeks

What is it with Torres. Great goal getter but ffs, he's had more time off work then Sicknote

Liverpool will be in free fall. Do they have anyone capable of holding their own in the Prem?
Can't wait for Jan 20!

I don't know why Pulis is trying to sign a new keeper for this weekend (James) - Liverpool will pose no threat to the Stoke goal whatsoever!

Liverpool are the new francenal. Only 1 English player (carra - and I use the term 'player' VERY loosely) in the entire squad today.

Lucas Leiva is English, he sure as hell isn't Brazilian.

Stoke have dropped their interest in James. Pompey wanted too much for him.

Commentator John Motson, who is an absolute legend here, made the defining statement at the Stoke v Liverpool game in the first half

"38 minutes of the most uninspiring premiership football I have ever seen"

I guess i feel sorry for LFC as the monkey seems to be on their backs at the moment. All this talk also about Gus or Jose Mourhino taking over at the end of the season, but do you think either one of them would after hearing rumours that if torres or gerrard are sold and if they are none of that money will be used to buy new players.??

Im sure you will come out of this current state and will return to the top 4 sooner rather then later.

Just that Liverpool was up 1-0 at that stage.
I wrote that just after Defoe's goal was disallowed by Howard 'I receive cash payments and a good old rodgering from Rafa after each game' Webb.

The linesman flagged it DA, Webb just blew the whistle.
In this instance the interpretation was debatable and I reckon the goal should've stood, but if Defoe wasn't offside in the 1st place, would he of been in a position to get anywhere near the backpass ?

I thought Spurs were technically better than Liverpool for most of the game but lacked the desire and workrate of the Reds.
Carra had his best game in a while, Masch, Kuyt and yiros were pretty good too.
Aquilani tired, as most recruits from Serie' Slow do, but showed good glimpses.
Lucas gave the ball away an amazing 18 times and was responsible for the penalty being re-taken as he encroached into the area. I WAN'T ONE PERSON TO TELL ME WHAT THIS GUY OFFERS THE TEAM??????????????????

He is about as useful as a candle on the pitch............, would that make him a Brazilian Wax ?

Yep - you also need to have made some cash payments to the linesman and ref so you have 13 players in your side.

I still think Webb should have confirmed exactly why the linesman put his flag up, as Webb saw the whole event, with the exception of Defoe's exact position for the offside call. The linesman was flat out wrong, but I still blame Webb for being incompetent (read - up the arse of the sky 4)

On Defoe getting to the ball - I'd say yes, because Defoe wasn;t involved at all - it was purely down to 'Yiros' (LMAO BTW) shocking back pass.

Agree with everything else there - Spurs looked better technically, but Liverpool wanted the points more. Gareth Bale was a prime example for us. He was probably our BOG, but got beaten probably 3-4 times simply because he didn't want it as much as Carra/Masch/Yiros.

Lucas - OMG. I was embarassed for him.

Here you go Smithy - this made me smile:

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_5876811,00.html

Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva insists the Reds are capable of coping in the absence of key men.

The Merseyside outfit have endured a disappointing 2009/10 campaign, with criticism regularly levelled in their direction.

Untimely injuries to talismanic duo Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres have only served to add further weight to the jibes, with the opinion that Liverpool will struggle to cope without the duo.

Lucas, though, insists that Rafa Benitez's squad is about much more than two players and has backed the Reds to silence their critics over the coming weeks.

A hard-fought 2-0 victory over top-four rivals Tottenham on Wednesday has gone some way to backing up his claims, and the Brazilian feels the battling qualities on show against Spurs prove how united the players have become.

"Now it is time for other players to show we have quality," said Lucas.

"We have heard a lot that Liverpool are a two-player team and of course we will miss Stevie, Fernando, Yossi (Benayoun) and Glen (Johnson) because they are brilliant players.

"But we cannot have them so we have to play with our squad - and yesterday (against Spurs) we worked really hard."

Momentum
The midweek win leaves Liverpool just a point adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham and Lucas is adamant the club can still save their season by securing UEFA Champions League qualification.

He added: "It is normal when you don't get results that you get criticism. The Reading defeat (last week) was a catastrophe because we wanted to stay in the FA Cup.

"To be honest I cannot stop it. I have to keep going. If I listened to the criticism I wouldn't play here anymore.

"I just have to keep going and work really hard. The critics will be less if we keep doing well.

"Our record in the last four games is 10 points so that is positive.

"We know this season has been not so good but we have to keep this momentum and attitude.

"February will be a massive month for us so hopefully we will keep the same attitude.

"We will be there for sure, fighting for the top four."

2 man team - probably not, 10 man team - without a doubt.

I like his use of we have quality, we worked really hard, we did really well, etc.

with Torres and Gerrard out they are still holding their own, a draw at Brittania then a win over the Spurs. they won't be top 4 but they will push very hard for it.

how long until they get back to fitness?
