Speaking of Hillsborough:

Liverpool suspend immature reserve goalkeeper Charles Itandje for 14 days over Hillsborough tribute service antics

Liverpool fans rage at keeper 'dancing and joking' during Hillsborough service

Liverpool reserve goalkeeper Charles Itandje has been suspended by the Barclays Premier League club for 14 days while his conduct during Wednesday's Hillsborough service is investigated.
Television cameras appeared to show the 26-year-old Frenchman laughing at the memorial service to remember the 96 people who died at the FA Cup semi-final clash between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest on April 15, 1989.

I have a feeling that this story might not make many of you pool fans too happy ?

Thanks to The Daily Mirror

Liverpool set to offload £11.5m flop Babel as boss Benitez plots summer exodus

Ryan Babel is set to be sold by Liverpool this summer as Rafa Benitez attempts to rebuild his squad.
The Holland forward has failed to nail down a regular starting spot at Anfield since his £11.5million arrival from Ajax two years ago.
Babel has fallen down the pecking order after Benitez signed Spanish winger Albert Riera and he is now expected to leave at the end of the season, according to The Times.
The Dutchman has also expressed his frustration at the lack of opportunities at Liverpool and he may welcome the chance to move on.
'With this supporting role, I am not happy,' he said. 'I have had three good talks with the trainer this season in which he indicated that I could not lose sight of the defensive aspect.
'It is my feeling that I have strongly improved, but still I get no real chance.'
Babel is not the only Liverpool player with question marks hanging over his future. Italian full-back Andrea Dossena and Denmark centre-back Daniel Agger, whose contract expires at the end of next season, may also be sold.

Babel is a fwd, not a winger.
I'd be disappointed if he was offloaded but I reckon it would the player and not the manager to decide that.

Will King Kenny return to Anfield ?
If there is any truth to this report I'd be VERY happy.

I'd take Agger at Spurs in a heartbeat. Despite his injury concerns, he's class IMO.

Johnny, I've been meaning to ask, do you know the significance of Celtic's participation at the Hillsborough rememberance? I hear someone from their club laid a wreath and a number of Celtic fans were present to join in the singing of 'You'll Never Walk Alone'? What does Hillsborough have to do with Celtic?

And further to that, why do Celtic sing 'You'll Never Walk Alone'?

Not really sure Connine.

The only thing I can come up with is that Liverpol had a big Irish population as did Glasgow and of course Celtic is a catholic club so there was probably some affinity with each other.

according to the wiki entry for the song during the early 60's there was some form of pre match entertainment where the top ten chart songs were played before the match at Ainfield the kop would sing along with the tunes. Gerry and the Pacemakers recorded a version in 1963 and it is alleged that Gerry Marsden the lead singer was a Liverpool fan (also alleged that he was an Everton fan who turn-coated when Bill Shankly was manager of Liverpool) and when it dropped out of the top 10 the kop continued to sing it. Celtic have also adopted the practice (must be out of respect they do that every April 15 then???) plus Hibernian from Scotland, Feyenoord and FC Twente from the Netherlands and FC Tokyo have versions.

actually here is the reasoning in the Hillsborough disaster entry

the 3 Celtic supporter groups became involved in the Justice for the 96 campaign when during an Old firm game in 2006 they unveiled this banner to raise awareness of it in Scotland.

Image

looks like it started from there then as its reads as its only a recent development

For those doubting Rafa's transfer dealings since he's been at the club, read this.

It's biased in it's write-up but the figures stated are correct.
