johntheclaret wrote:Leeds 1 - 1 Ipswich Cresswell 12: Lee 88 (Leeds are effectively relegated unless they win last game by around 15 goals)

News today that Leeds have gone into administration. Rules are that if a club goes into administration, they are deducted 10 points. This happened to Rotherham last year as they went into administration in the close season and started last season on -10 points. They never recovered from this deficit and have been relegated from L1 this year.

Now it seems pretty daft to me, that you penalise a club 10 points wnen they are already financially stressed, as a way of teaching them a lesson :?: Like they need that. The expression, "kicking a man when he is down" springs to mind.

Anyway back to the topic re Leeds. Now it stikes me that this could be a tactical plan. Leeds must turn around a 15 goal deficit and Hull must lose for Leeds to escape the drop. This is an extemely unlikely event therefore for Leeds to go into administration duriing this season and being deducted 10 points is not really going to have much effect on them. Relegation will see the exodus of any decent players they have anyway, and my bet would be they have already lined up a re-financing deal for next year.

Conversation may go something like this ?

This is a big club with bags of potential and a wadge of fans, and could be a little gold mine if we can get promotion back to CCC next year.
OK, we will put the money up but not whilst you are debt ridden and have such high a wages bill.
No problem, we will put the club into administration to write off most of the debt and have a big clear out of players.
OK, as long as we are not investing our corporate dollars into paying your debts. What about the points deduction. We can't risk promotion next year by starting 10 points behind the rest.
Not a problem, we will go into administration this week so the the point loss won't effect next year.
Thats OK then, but we must not say anything about this until after the season closes. We will announce it in the close season.

This is of course just the opinion of a complete outsider but it wouldn't suprise me if we are not reading / hearing about a finance package being announced in the close season

CL Result Tuesday 1st May

Postby johntheclaret » Wed May 02, 2007 7:47 am

Liverpool 1 - 0 Chelski

Dunno if any of you guys watching this. Liverpool over Chelski like a rash

Full Time 1 - 0 (agg 1 - 1)

Playing extra time

After extra time 1 - 0
Kuyt had goal dissallowed for a very marginal offside decision. No way the linesman could have called that and if in doubt should give the benefit to the striker.

Now penalties. After Pool looked the more likely winner

Zenden SCORES 1 - 0 Pool
Robben SAVED 1 - 0 Pool
Alonso SCORES 2 - 0 Pool
Lampard SCORES 2 - 1 Pool
Gerrard SCORES 3 - 1 Pool
Jeremy SAVED 3 - 1 Pool
Kuyt SCORES 4 - 1 Pool

Liverpool go through, YOU BEAUT Two great saves by Pepe Reina F$%k off Mourinho YEEEESSSSSSSS

Best bit. Robben penalty saved. Couldn't happen to a sh1t1er little diving cheat.

I hope you guys have got up extra early to see this. What a great match. KOP looks awesome. If I had a camera and knew how to use it, and knew how to get a picture on to my pc and knew how to put it on here....... I would do.

Brilliant, superb, Pool have just won a MASSIVE game. This is a MASSIVE result. Gerrard played a MASSIVE captains role. Now they can look forward to another MASSIVE game in a MASSIVE cup final competition.

I am not a Pool supporter but do have a soft spot for them and lets be honest, anyone who beats whinging Chelski and their whinginig players and nouvo whinging fans, is ok in my book.

And I have had a beer or two.

Come on Utd. Lets make it an all EPL final and shove it up the Euro tossers. Hic

Yet another magical night at Anfield, one which I'm still yet to watch ... Woke up at 3:30am (hour before the game) and started thinking about 2005, when I missed the return leg at Anfield v Chelsea - Superstition kicked in (and the fact I was too nervous to watch) so I tried reading a book and casting an eye over SMS updates a mate was sending me.

Can't wait to watch the replay tonight having only seen the highlights, which looked as though we were unlucky to have not scored 3 or 4 (although must admit Drogba missed a couple, one in particular, that he would convert 99 times out of 100)!

Proudly wearing my "Road To Istanbul" T-Shirt and the biggest smile you could ever see today ... Would be crushing to go down to Man U in the final, but still worth it having beaten that mob today!

I'm sure the only time Man U and Pool fans would happily collaborate would be to drive Mourinho to Heathrow, a job I'd imagine there would be no lack of suitors for! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Got up and saw the 2nd half, and what a cracking game.

How was Branco Culina after the game saying it wasn't a good spectacle!!! He's supposed to be an expert and says it wasn;t a good game. It was a CRACKER!!!!

Then Moron-ho saying Chelscum were all over the Pool and deserved to win.....what a load of BOLLOX. The Pool were hot and thouroughly deserved to go through. Suck crap Moron.

How good to see Robben's penalty saved. Weak little whinger. I hope like hell Spurs don't talk to him over summer.

I agree fully JTC RE: Anfield. Although I'm a Spurs man, I've got a soft spot for the Reds (Kewell and Stevie G as previously raved over) and Anfield looked AMAZING.

Pool - MU final? How good would that be!!!!

Interesting looking back at comments made by the "Special One" this week, in particular those referring to his team vying for all trophies whilst we only have the 1 to chase ... I think Mr Mourinho forgets there's only so much that money can buy, and those which you can't like HISTORY and SUPPORTERS, can often be your undoing as it seems he's going to/already has found out at the hands of both Liverpool and Man U this year!

CL Update Wed 2nd May

Postby johntheclaret » Thu May 03, 2007 5:34 am

14 mins gone

Milan 1 - 0 Man U Kaka scored for Milan although they have had 3 or 4 shots already.
Not giving Man U anythime on the ball and are in total control.

Bit of history. Milan never lost against an English club at the San Siro and never failed to score. This of course doesn't mean that Man U won't get a draw and still go through.
Ronaldo in the left and Giggs on the right ???
18 mins free kick to Man U 36 mtrs out for theit 1st real attack

Revised

Milan 2 - 0 Man U Seedorf scored but the goal was made by Man U's back four. Fergie is going to go ballistic at half time United have to score 3 now to win and as it is that must seem highly unlikely. Milan are a league above United in this one.

Uniteds back 4 allover the place. No Ferdinand and it shows. Fletcher and vidic playing centre back and both are way off the pace. Gifted Milan their second by passing to and for across the back P1ss poor pass from Heize from the left fullback position to Vidic in the box who slips trying to reach it and gives possession back to Milan. Result..... goal

Vidic looks like has has come back a game too soon and Fletcher completely outclassed. Also looks like they are playing with the wrong studs. United players slipping all over the place in poor weathe conditions (Pooring down) Milan look like they are going to scoore every time they go forward. Fergie sure to make some changes at half time if the score remains as it is.

Revised

All over now Milan 3 - 0 up. Gilardino on his own gave keeper no chance.
United totally lost it. Handbags between Gatuso and Scholes. All getting a bit nasty now. Couple of poor (frustrated) tackles from United. Just not good enough on the night. missing Rio in the back but noticable the lack of impact from ronaldo and Shrek.
Into the last 5 mins. Kaka substituted and gets a standing ovation. We talk about ronaldo being the best in the world, he has a bit of catching up to do to match Kaka. Outstandinig contribution tonight and tore United apart. This is not the same United that put seven past Roma in the last round.

One minute into the 3 minutes of stoppage time and Van der Sar runs over to the touch line and takes the throw in with real urgency, (remeber Utd are losing 3 - 0), fair do's to him though No one else has shown any passion tonight.

Full time Milan 3 - 0 Utd

Milan v Likverpool in the final. 2nd time they have met in the final in 3 years. Lets hope for the same result as last time

I noticed that from EVDS. Good display of passion despite being in a hopeless situation. Some MU players should have come out with that sort of enthusiasm after the break.

MU were TERRIBLE. Milan's defence is TIGHT!

It's going to be an awesome replay. The same result as last time would be another great spectacle. Go Reds!

If Liverpool win the CL and UTD win the PL then Chelsea will have to qualify for the CL through the early stages.
Lose that game and they are in the EUFA cup........we can only hope.
