Alonso was more aggressive towards Carragher because he was the one who started the argument and shoved Arbeloa. Apparently Carragher got angry because Arbeloa almost conceded (ended up blocking the shot from memory) and they were keen to ensure Reina ended up with the most clean sheets.

I have read excerpts from his book DA and he sounds like a wannabe gangsta! I can't remember who it was now but maybe it was an opposition player who he said that if he wanted to he could call his mates up and 'sort him out'?

Handbags at ten paces.....

I knew the minute after it happened that the media would get hold of it and make it a bigger deal than it was.

Carra is a highly competitive, passionate Scouser. He marshalls the defence and if he perceives someone is not putting in a shift then he will let them know in no uncertain terms. On this occasion it was Arbeloa that incurred his wrath.

If you watch Liverpool with any degree of regularity you will know that Carra makes himself heard match after match. He also tends to get that wild look in his eye but it doesn't mean he is a 'wannabe gangsta', he's actually a loving family man. The big mistake Arbeloa made was to get up and argue back, as well as push Carragher away....A red rag to a bull. It wasn't a great look granted but anyone who says they will now not speak etc. is just being mischievous. Carra moved on immediately and Arbeloa will think twice about shirking his defensive duties next time.

As for his dislike of Lucas Neill, who in Liverpool wouldn't like to sort him? Considering he broke Carra's leg when he was playing for Rovers, then I don't blame him for feeling a little aggrieved!! Couple that with Neill turning down a contract at Liverpool because they wouldn't guarantee he would start every week....

Gerrard Houllier wasn't a big fan either;

Yep Neill is the man he was talking about in his book. A 'juicy extract' can be found here:

A bit silly to write that in his book... not bad for a family man.

I know Carragher is Liverpool through and through but his actions were a bit over the top.

Maybe Carra was just annoyed at the way Arby always jumps over his teammates when they score

It's also a bit rich of Carra to resort to puching and shoving and name calling, when he himself is the own goal king of the universe. Imagine Arbeloa giving him a mouthful every time Carra scored an own goal.

If Carra's so passionate about Reina's clean sheet record, he should start by concentrating on not putting one past him every other week.

I know this isn't going to sit well with most Liverpool fans, but looking back over this season, and this IS only a personal view, but I believe that Liverpool has a lot to thank United for. In past EPL years Pool has been off the pace and could only watch on as either United and Chelski or United and Arsenal battled it out for the title, but this year Pool has been in with a shout all the way, and it seemed to me that thier desire to topple Man U was the driving force behind thier determination to take the top prize.

OK so they fell just short in the end, but Rafa clearly picked up on the bitter rivalry between the two clubs and tried to use the psychology to push his side to the limit. He knows that star captain, and more often than not the dynamo of the Liverpool side, Stevie G is a scouser by birth and he would love to stick it up United, and revved up the mindgames with Fergie to the max.

Why didn't he do this last year, simple, Pool were too far away to offer a real challenge so there was no point. So what about next season? Rafa knows he is 3 or 4 short of a team but ther is always a remote chance that Ronaldo and Tevez may walk in the summer and whilst Fergie is the master in consistency and continuity, they are two big pairs of boots to fill.

Chelski are the dark horses next year in my opinion. They have got thier act together and whether Hiddink stays or goes, they will be the ones to beat. Where does that leave Liverpool next year? Rafa played his joker this year by taking on Fergie in the press, so will it have the same effect next year, maybe, maybe not but without some severe investment in key positions Pool are going to have to rely on Chelski to prevent United from overhauling thier 18 title record.

good post. Differences between managers aswell, When Arsene and Fergie had their spats a few years ago Arsene actually took the title from fergie 3 times, yes man united still won titles but when Arsene and Fergie had their spats Arsenal also won the title. With rafa it was different and also keving keegan in 96 from memory wasnt it when newcastle was up there, and again those two managers failed. So as im seeing it, if Arsene starts things again with fergie or fergie with Arsene then Arsenal will win the premier league title for the fourth time ;)

Sorry cyclops, only razzing ya.

Here ya go

David Josué Jiménez Silva currently plays for Valencia CF and for the Spanish national team.

Versatile and skilled, Silva is capable of playing on either wing or as a traditional number 10, and sometimes as a supporting striker. A player of slight build, he is often compared to Pablo Aimar, the player he replaced at Valencia, also donning Aimar's trademark number 21.

Liverpool are desperate for an out and out right winger, so will a versatility player fit the bill?

Hey MODS. Instead of starting new team threads for next season, why don't you just change the subject to reflect the correct season 09/10.

That way continuity can continue.... :D

Hope you're right mate because the lad is an absolute genius, the Darren Jarman of the round ball game for me (granted my bias, there's been other magicians in EPL)
