Round Up from Wednesday.Burnley stunned
Chelsea in a penalty shoot-out in the Carling Cup fourth round, Tottenham Hotspur swept past Liverpool and Blackburn Rovers edged past Sunderland.
Championship side Burnley caused a major upset at Stamford Bridge with a sudden death penalty shoot-out success after a 1-1 draw with Premier League leaders Chelsea.
Chelsea took the lead on 27 minutes when Didier Drogba surged past a defender into the box and curled a fine right-footed shot beyond Burnley keeper Brian Jensen.
Branislav Ivanovic was given a rare start in the Chelsea side and the Serbian stopper almost increased the lead before half-time, but his near-post header came back off the bar.
Burnley stunned the home crowd with an equaliser on 69 minutes as Ade Akinbiyi pounced on the rebound after Carlo Cudicini had parried Chris Eagles' shot.
In extra-time, Alex missed a golden chance for Chelsea before Clarets captain Steven Caldwell was sent off on 116 minutes for a second yellow card.
Wayne Bridge had his penalty saved by Jensen before Wade Elliott smashed his spot-kick off target when he had a chance to win the tie for the Clarets.
However, after Michael Duff had rammed home his effort from 12 yards, Jensen produced a flying save to deny John Obi Mikel and secure a famous win for Owen Coyle's side.
Harry Redknapp continues to sprinkle his magic around White Hart Lane after Spurs enjoyed a pulsating 4-2 win over Liverpool.
Less than a fortnight after a last-gasp victory over the Reds in the Premier League, Spurs' cup success was far more convincing as Roman Pavlyuchenko and Fraizer Campbell both scored twice.
Spurs' opener on 38 minutes signalled a dominant spell from the hosts as Campbell pulled the ball back from the by-line for the unmarked Pavlyuchenko to drill clinically between Diego Cavalieri's legs.
Just four minutes later it was 2-0 as Cavalieri and Andrea Dossena got in a mix-up just inside the area as Campbell brought Jamie O'Hara's pass under control and slotted into an empty net for his first goal for Spurs.
And before half-time Campbell had grabbed his second, with Dossena again at fault as the Liverpool full-back allowed the on-loan striker to nip in and head Aaron Lennon's cross beyond Cavalieri.
Liverpool were gifted a lifeline four minutes into the second half as Spurs keeper Heurelho Gomes dithered at a Ryan Babel corner and Damien Plessis headed home.
But Spurs responded with a fourth goal just three minutes later as Didier Zokora burst powerfully into the box and his deflected shot was tapped into the net by Pavlyuchenko.
Yet Gomes seemed intent on keeping Liverpool in the game as he flapped at a Babel corner on 63 minutes to allow Sami Hyypia to head into the net.
Brazilian keeper Gomes was then stretchered off, to be replaced by Cesar, as Spurs saw out the closing stages to move into the last eight.
Paul Ince won the battle of the former Manchester United midfield generals as Blackburn overcame Roy Keane's Sunderland 2-1 at the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland had enjoyed the better of the first half, with Paul Robinson tipping over an attempt from Danny Collins and Kenwyne Jones hitting the crossbar.
But Blackburn substitute Roque Santa Cruz enjoyed an immediate impact off the bench on 65 minutes when he headed home from close range.
And just four minutes later, Blackburn were 2-0 up when the ball ricocheted into the net off Sunderland full-back Phil Bardsley after a cross had been pushed out by Marton Fulop.
The Black Cats were back in it just 60 seconds later, though, when Jones, who had a goal disallowed in between Rovers' two efforts, drove the ball home from 20 yards, but Blackburn held on to book a quarter-final spot.
