Fair points mate.

I thought Arry was a terrible appointment at WHL, but I've enjoyed washing down my humble pie with Pale Ale .. That said, Im not of the opinion he will take you any higher (I don't mind spurs though, so happy to be wrong on that one)

Roy Hodgson leaves Fulham to become Liverpool manager

Roy Hodgson has been named Liverpool's new manager after signing a three-year contract with the Anfield club.

Hodgson will oversee the club's first day of pre-season training on Thursday before being unveiled to the media.

"This is the biggest job in club football and I'm honoured to be taking on Britain's most successful football club," Hodgson told the club's website.

The 62-year-old joins from Fulham, where he took charge in December 2007 and guided to the Europa Cup final.

Hodgson succeeds Rafael Benitez, who left Liverpool by mutual consent at the start of June and is now manager of European champions Inter Milan.

Reds face Torres injury wait
Spanish striker hurts groin in World Cup final

Liverpool will find out the full extent of Fernando Torres' groin injury later in the week.
The 26-year-old Spain striker sustained the injury in Sunday's World Cup final victory over Holland after coming off the bench to replace David Villa in extra time.
Torres pulled up sharply after chasing a ball forward and the problem has been confirmed as a left adductor injury.
He will undergo a further medical examination in the next few days, having recently returned to Spain as the country celebrates their World Cup triumph.
Torres has an uncertain future and speculation has linked him with a move away from Anfield following a disappointing season last time out.

Iniesta - Torres decision close

Spain star expects Liverpool ace to decide future in next fortnight
Andres Iniesta believes Liverpool star Fernando Torres will decide on his future in the next fortnight.
The pair are still coming to terms with helping Spain become World Cup winners for the first time on Sunday.
But Torres, who picked up a groin injury in the final, now has to weigh up his options with regards to his club future.
Chelsea have been strongly linked with a move for the 26-year-old striker this summer as Liverpool cannot offer him Champions League football this season.

REAL MADRID RULE OUT GERRARD BID

Real Madrid have ruled out a move for Steven Gerrard due to the Liverpool captain's age and valuation, according to their transfer consultant Ernesto Bronzetti.
Jose Mourinho's appointment as Real coach earlier in the summer prompted speculation the Spanish giants would launch a bid for Gerrard.

One for smithy :)

LUCAS WANTS TO STAY AT ANFIELD

Midfielder Lucas Leiva insists he wants to remain at Liverpool despite speculation linking him with a summer move to Italy.
The much-derided 23-year-old was one of the more consistent performers last season but, as he is seen as being a favourite of former Reds manager Rafael Benitez, doubts have been raised about the Brazilian's future.
However, he is determined to prove to new boss Roy Hogdson he is worth a place in the squad despite being linked with Palermo.

"I'm happy in Liverpool and looking forward to my fourth season," he said."I hope I stay. I'm happy to play for Liverpool and to improve my performances, as I did last season. I'm not here to try to prove critics wrong. I'm here to prove myself to the manager and my team-mates. That's the most important thing. I don't know why people criticise me so much but I just try to be positive and be strong."

"I know I had a good season last season and hope it will be even better this season." he told smithy of safooty

Well aren't you just the bearer of good news then ! ;)

I know of players that were so bad, they won their clubs "most improved" trophy 5 seasons running.
Surely this applies to this clown.
He only wants to play for Liverpool cause no-one else is stupid enough to pick him.

Roy will see through him though.
But Liverpools problem is they don't have any depth to replace him.

Roy Hodgson admitted to feeling a sense of disappointment that his first game as Liverpool manager against Al-Hilal was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch in Austria.

The referee conducted several pitch inspections in Austria before deeming the match unplayable.

It means our new boss will have to wait until Wednesday for his first Liverpool game when Swiss side Grasshoppers provide the opposition.

"The referee had no choice," Hodgson told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"Everyone tried very hard to get the game on but it wasn't possible. We wanted to play, Al -Hilal wanted to play, but to play a football match you need the ball to be rolling properly around the pitch.

"It wasn't doing that and so it was impossible. We tried everything but you can't fight the weather and even if we had started the game it would have been played at the limit, and I'm not sure we would have finished it."

Hodgson also revealed training plans have had to change because of the postponed match.

"Obviously this affects our preparations," he added.

"We were going to play today and have a warm down day tomorrow but now Sunday will be a training day instead.

"Most of all I'm disappointed for the supporters who came to watch Liverpool play but there was nothing we could do."

Joe Cole signs for Liverpool as former Chelsea ace snubs Arsenal and Tottenham for Merseyside

Liverpool have signed former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole on a free transfer.
The 28-year-old England international left Stamford Bridge at the end of last season after failing to agree a new contract with the Barclays Premier League champions.
Cole and has agreed terms on a four-year deal believed to be worth nearly £90,000 a week at Anfield and he will undergo a medical in the next 48 hours.
The England midfielder received offers from Arsenal and Tottenham, and also attracted interest from Manchester United only for his wage demands to scupper a move to Old Trafford.

I wouldn't get too excited though boys. anyone who signs on purely for money rarely works out. Cole is a London boy and he will miss the bright lights and his mates. I don't believe for an instant that he would prefer Liverpool and the Europa league, over Arsenal and the CL or Man U and the success they enjoy.

All destined to end in tears imo. Injured in a pre-season freindly and out for 6 months. That's usually the case.

Javier Mascherano's snub does not worry me, says Roy Hodgson despite fears Liverpool midfielder is off to Inter MilanLiverpool boss Roy

Hodgson insists he is not worried by being snubbed by Javier Mascherano.
The Argentina captain has ignored Hodgson's telephone calls and texts since he took over from Rafa Benitez at Anfield.
And with Mascherano keen to link up with Benitez again at Inter Milan, there were fears that the snub had all but confirmed his exit.

Wanted man: Javier Mascherano has been on holiday since the World Cup
Yet, Hodgson has now revealed he does not expect to hear from the midfielder until he returns for pre-season training later this month.

He said: 'He doesn't need to make contact with me. I've made contact with him telling him I'm looking forward to seeing him in training when he returns from his holiday but I did make the point in the voicemail that I didn't expect him to contact me.

'I just wanted him to know that I had been in touch and that I was thinking of him. I didn't ask him to call me back. I don't have a lot to say to him, to be honest, other than "Welcome back".'

Does this spell the end of Mascherano's time at Anfield? It seems to me that Hodgson is being polite and to be honest, he is not likely to come out to the press and admit Masch is not returning his calls. Equally, you would expect Mascherano to return Hodgson's calls as a matter of courtesy.

Another story that is far from over imo

So true mate, I had exactly the same fears when reading of the signature .. I've always rated him is a player when he's not diving or injured, unfortunately in the past those 2 have come into play about %60 of the time.

Obviously I hope it doesn't work out this way, but Im sceptical/nervous that's for sure.

Tend to agree that it sounds as though Masch could be off too, hard to think the owners wouldn't be keen to accept the $$ for him either.

Agree with you boys. JC is a great player when he's fit, but he's one of the biggest sicknotes in the prem.

Also, how can Liverpool afford 90k per week especially now there's no CL footy?

If he plays, he'll definitely be a plus though.
