Also, Dave Jones hates Leeds (as most of you guys on this forum do too), which was a factor in some of his comments post game.
Agreed. The abuse wasn't all one way traffic.
I read Dave Jones's post-match comments and it sounded like he had an axe to grind so I'm not surprised to learn he has a historical hatred for Leeds.
From my experience - I was one of the 38,000 people at Elland Road when Leeds beat Bristol Rovers to secure promotion to the Championship in 2010 - Leeds supporters are generally very passionate and love their club.
We're talking about Yorkshire here, not affluent London. Many Leeds supporters are blokes who work hard in lowly paid jobs. Watching their team every week means so much to them.
The fan who ran onto the pitch last week and assaulted Chris Kirkland seems to be a troubled young man. Funnily enough he doesn't even live in Yorkshire! He pleaded guilty and has received a 4-month jail term.
Also I thought Kirkland's comments were a bit soft. As a strong, fit and sober professional sportsman being felled by a massively drunk spectator he probably feels a bit chastened.
I think someone like Andrew Symonds would've handled him a bit differently if he was standing in goal!
