If he is silly enough to think he's going to make an impact at Real Madrid -and let's face it, when did a British player ever take Spanish football by storm? - let him go. He'll eventually come back with his tail between his legs. It's a different game over there.

He'd be much better off staying in British football where his game is suited. He could guide Spurs to a title in the not too distant future.

Agree about English players struggling in Spain but I think he wants to win trophies and play regular CL. He realistically hasnt got a hope of either at Spurs. Can see the current top 3 dominating for a few years yet with Arsenal probably the only threat to their domination

Agreed Jim. Spurs are at least 4 or 5 players short of a title side. Bale on his own simply isn't enough. As for setting the world on fire, I think he would actually go ok in Spain. They play the type of game suited to him and you can bank on it, Spurs will sell at £50m

I cannot understand the raps Roberto Martinez gets. Apart from squeaking an FA Cup in the dying seconds of the game he has presided over constant struggles with Wigan since he's been there.
Even Wigan chairman Dave Whelan lavishes praise on the man who has just sent his team down. He should be furious at him jumping ship.
Of his move to Everton Whelan said "After leaving Wigan, I think Everton is the next stop of Roberto before he goes to the very, very top"
On what basis?
I don't see the top clubs in Europe clamouring for his signature and he wasn't even in the reckoning when Manchester United were looking for a replacement for Sir Alex Ferguson.
At Everton, he'll be a mere shadow of David Moyes.

The fact that he kept wigan up for so long in the prem,
No money, every season losing his good players and having to rebuild
Had them playing good football, staying true to his princiabels and year after year doing a great escpae playing the best football at the time would have something to do with it.

Dave whelan will let him leave as martinez could of left the last few seasons but chose to stay at wigan and stayed loyal to a chairman/owner who was loyal with him.
Him bringing the FA cup and European qualifcation (even if it is the europa league ) is a huge achievement for wigan. It maybe the best time for both parties to part and no matter what he will be a hero in the wigans fans eyes.

Everton have no money and he can prove he can do well with the scrapes so with quality players there who do play good football could be an ideal partnership and the person he is replacing has his critics at his new club for reason no to disimilar than martinez except roberto has a trophy on moyes, also give the lack of money who are Everton going to get that is better martinez that wont blow there budget? maybe Di matteo would be the only other person the rest would cost to much.
The problem with Barcelona is that I like fish and chips but they had to turn it into calamari and patatas

i dont see anything wrong with martinez. Limited budget and yes losing players every year, he did a great job considering the resources he had.

Still, I suspect the only reason he stayed 'loyal' was because Wigan were still in the Premier League. He'd have left before now if they were relegated earlier.

Cristiano Ronaldo has refused to sign a new contract meaning in just under 2 years he can walk on a free contract.
Do Real cash in on him now and use the money to bring in Bale?
United are reportedly preparing a £65m bid plus a player to bring him back.
Ronaldo also has his house in Madrid up for sale.
I cant see it happening this season but if we wait until next season we could probably grab him for half that.

Atletico Madrid, Arsenal and Tottenham are encircling Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke.

Spurs have apparently offered Jermaine Defoe, whom they value at £7m, plus cash. Apart from a glaring overvaluation of Defoe they are surely kidding themselves if they think Villa would accept a 30-year old who is past his best and injury prone to replace a 22-year old potential superstar who is getting better all the time.

It's inevitable Benteke will eventually leave Villa but I think he owes us another season at least. He wanted to play in the Premiership and we were the only club prepared to give him that opportunity. Genk played hard ball but we got the deal through on August deadline day last year. After another year like the one he's had I think we wouldn't stand in his way of leaving to play Champions League and win trophies (something unlikely at Villa).

Agreed on this, Defoe isnt worth £2m, you will be lucky to get 10 games out of him before he breaks down.
Id be playing hard ball with Benteke

I tend to agree with westozfalcon

Martinez is a nice guy an all but this concept that he kept Wigan in the top flight for so long is claptrap.

He had as much money to spend as say Fulham, or WBA and a damnsight more than Norwich, Southampton or Swansea.
