Geez if they sign him they will have a half decent side next year. They have already captured the very impressive Modric (before the Euro too which probably saved them a couple of mill), now they want to sign Podolski?! He would do well in the EPL I reckon.

Spurs have a couple of VERY rich shareholders and are backed by a monster company which our managing director owns I think.....feel free to correct me JTC.

RM, the same was said last season after finishing 'th and signing a few 'decent' players. This season the quality of the signings looks better, but I'm not counting any chickens and won't be until at least May 2009!!!

We,ve just signed Heurelho Gomes from PSV. Gomes is the Brzilian number 2 and actually looks solid in goal which will be a welcome change at Spurs!

Talk on Spurs forums is that Podolski won't sign, he's just looking to add zero's to his paycheck!

"It's OK, we still have Wes Brown"...ha ha ha

Robbie Keane from Spurs to Liverpool in a deal that would see Peter Crouch move in the opposite direction, reportedly.

Haha, this one has just popped up! Not sure what Reds fans would feel about this move - probably 'meh', but Spurs WILL NOT sell Robbie Keane. There would be a mutiny. Most fans on the forums would rather sell Berbatov and that says a lot about how highly rated and important Keano is at Spurs.

IMO, he'll be at Spurs until he's at least 30 - another 4 years.

Rafa can have Bent for Crouch though.....anyone?

LOL Are you touching your toes as I tell you where you can stick Bent?

I've always rated Robbie Keane so wouldn't be upset to see him with us ... Think Crouch is greater in quality and value, but Keane has so much energy about him, both good but different, players.

Berbatov is someone I would have snapped up in a heartbeat a year or so ago, but his attitude last year has put me off a bit.

Poor old Bent - nobody likes him!

Keano's goal record for Spurs and internationally would surely put him well in front of Crouch in quality and value? Discussions on the Spurs forums (obviously ludicrously biased) say we shouldn't sell for less that 25m. Personally, Keane is far more important to Spurs than he ever could be for Liverpool, but I don't want him sold regardless.

There has been no mention of the sale of Riise to AS Roma. Surely as a Reds fan, you'd be well chuffed to see the end of him?

Chavski have just confirmed they have signed Deco from Barca for 8m squid. This potentially paves the way for Fat Fwank to complete a move to Inter.

I would have thought Crouch had done as much if not more in his playing minutes at Pool' in both the EPL and CL aswell as for England (his efforts at previous club, can't remember exactly who it was Southhampton? Sunderland? were pretty good also) ... Probably not a great deal between them I guess, and possibly a moot point ... Although judging by Smithy's link, you might be right about the valuations of the two players.

Reckon Liverpool will be paying over the odds for Barry, so can't see the Red's making too many major more major moves in the off-season (even with an expected sale of Alonso) given the yanks penchant for keeping the belt tight.

As for Riise, I for one am glad to see him go ... Has been a great servant for a number of years but he's been carried the last 2 seasons IMHO.

Cheers for the link Smithy. A rule of thumb in the UK is not to believe any of the crap printed in the Daily Mail, Star, Sun and even News of the world. This lot are the scum of the tabloid world and tend to have a stack of templates set up for transfer period and they just chuck a different players name in each day.

For example, the article doesn't contain one single quote from Keano, Spurs of Liverpool, but states:

"The 28-year-old came out of a meeting at White Hart Lane having left club officials in little doubt about his eagerness to play for his boyhood idols."

There are 2 problems with his statement. Keano is not even in the UK - he's been on holiday for a few weeks and apparently will be for another couple, which makes it hard to get to WHL. The other thing (which I wasn't aware of given my post a couple back) is that he was actually a Celtic fan as a kid. The Liverpool link came from transfer rumors about 4 seasons back.

Anyhoo, this story may be true - who knows - but the media LOVE to just pick a player and go to town on the transfer rumor stories. I'd rely on actuall press releses made by the clubs and for a semi-reliable media source, check out the BBC or slightly less reliable is Sky Sports News.

Agree with both of those comments. Villa have slapped an 18m price tag on Barry - maybe 15m is reasonable in the current market?

Riise has been terrible for the last 2 seasons.

Would probably even question 15mil to be honest mate ... I like Barry as a player and I'd like to see him at Anfield, but thats a lot of coin ... The same money will generally buy a better quality footballer from a different country, I guess with the homegrowns though you are paying extra for those who are more proven in this particular league.

Can someone tell me if Liverpool have signed any high profile players in the off season so far?
and has anything been finalised with Ronaldo as yet or still on going?

Liverpool will end up paying well over the market price for Barry because he is English. That's pretty much the only reason.

Still no news on Ronaldo yet.
Deco has gone to Chelski but I think that was mentioned earlier.

Man City target Ronaldinho has been labelled 'Gordinho' (or Little Fatty) by the media after turning out for a charity game a little overweight.

Even though there are other photos which don't make him look as bad so it's probably just the tabloids at it again.

For the record, he scored twice and set-up two in a 7-7 draw which featured two teams of international stars.

Sky Sports News are reporting that Ronaldinho could become a Citeh player very shortly.

And to go against what I said earlier about the reliability of news sources, the BBC are running a version of the Keano story. F&$#^ I hope it's all rubbish!

Joey Barton has been given a 4 month suspended sentence for his assault on a former Citeh team mate. Not sure how it's possible to receive a suspended sentence given he's already in the clink, but anyway......no football for him for a while. Apparently Newcastle will speak to him when he's out. The Geordies have the right strip for Barton.

SJABC - Derby have signed a couple of players. Stirker Liam Dickenson from Stockport County and Danish defender Martin Albrechtsen from WBA.

Liverpool are waiting for Alonso to get off the piss before discussing his future and a potential move to Juve.

Robinho has been linked with Chelski. His manager says he is sick of being used as a player plus cash for Ronaldo lure and was apparently quoted as saying "Robinho is just as good if not better than Ronaldo". If he said that, then I would love someone to get me some of whatever he's smoking because it's obviously some goooooood shiet. Good player, but no Ronnie!

Most media over here is still kissing Andy Murray and rightfully so I guess, but the transfer news is backseat today.
