Round Up

Substitute Max-Alain Gradel scored a stoppage-time equaliser as Leicester's top-of-the-table clash with MK Dons finished 2-2.
Gradel's late goal ensured the Foxes maintained their eight-point lead at the top, with their hopes of automatic promotion further boosted after third-placed Peterborough lost 2-1 at home to Southend.
Leicester are now 14 points clear of Posh and it would seem only a catastrophic loss of form will prevent them from bouncing back to the Coca-Cola Championship at the first time of asking.
Top scorer Matty Fryatt had put the Foxes ahead after just five minutes but Peter Leven struck either side of the break to put the hosts in front.
It looked as though Roberto Di Matteo's side would take all three points until Gradel thrashed a 20-yard free-kick into the top-left corner.

Southend came from behind to dent Peterborough's automatic promotion hopes.
Dean Keates put Posh ahead from the penalty spot after six minutes but goals from Jean Francois Christophe (25) and a Shane Blackett own goal (62) condemned them to just their third home league defeat of the season.

Leeds moved into the play-off places at Scun.thorpe's expense after beating them 3-2 at Elland Road.
Iron's prolific 21-year-old striker Gary Hooper cancelled out goals from Jermaine Beckford and Bradley Johnson as the visitors looked set to defend their place in the table.
But just as he did on the opening day, when Leeds beat Scun.thorpe 2-1, Beckford struck the winner.

Chris Taylor scored a stoppage-time winner as Oldham beat Millwall 3-2 to go fourth.
Deane Smalley and Lee Hughes had the Latics 2-0 up after 10 minutes but that advantage was cancelled out by Neil Harris' 56th-minute penalty and Ashley Grimes' goal 10 minutes later.

At the other end of the table, Crewe moved out of the drop zone with a 4-0 thumping away to fellow strugglers Brighton.
The visitors scored three time in the final 11 minutes after Billy Jones got the ball rolling with a 24th-minute penalty.
Steven Schumacher made it 2-0 after 79 minutes before Jones got his second and Gylfi Sigurdsson completed the rout.

Bottom club Cheltenham look doomed to relegation after Northampton defender Jason Crowe (45) scored the only goal of the game to leave them 12 points adrift of safety.

Second-from-bottom Hereford pulled Leyton Orient into the bottom four with a 2-1 win.
Febian Brandy and a Stephen Guinan penalty put them 2-0 up after 16 minutes to render Tamika Mkandawire's 44th-minute reply a consolation effort.

Elsewhere, there were home wins for Walsall and Tranmere as they beat Yeovil and Swindon 2-0 and 1-0 respectively.

Hartlepool claimed a 1-1 draw from their trip to fellow mid-table team Colchester while the same result was produced from the matches between Carlisle and Bristol Rovers as well as Stockport and Huddersfield.

Round Up

Brentford extended their lead at the top of the Coca-Cola League Two table with a 1-0 win over promotion rivals Bury.
The Shakers could have gone level on points with their hosts had they won, but it was Brentford who took the lead six minutes from the break through Marcus Bean.
Any hope the visitors had of getting back into the match evaporated when Stephen Dawson was dismissed 20 minutes from time.

Wycombe dropped a place to third on goal difference after they were held to a goalless draw at Morecambe. Rochdale replaced them in second spot with a comfortable 2-0 home win over Grimsby.
First-half goals from Adam Rundle and Adam Le Fondre were enough to see off the relegation-threatened side who remain two points off the drop zone.

Promotion-chasing Shrewsbury shot themselves in the foot at Macclesfield as first Shane Cansdell-Sherriff headed into his own net in the 21st minute before Ben Herd gave away a second-half penalty which Gareth Evans duly converted.
Nathaniel Brown capped off a good result for the hosts as he netted in stoppage time.

Bournemouth failed to move out of the relegation zone as they lost 1-0 at Gillingham, with Nicky Southall getting the only goal of the game in the 58th minute to see the hosts move into the play-off zone.

Exeter maintained their push for promotion with a 2-0 triumph against 10-man Darlington.
Neil Austin handled in the area and Matthew Gill stepped up to convert the penalty in the 72nd minute before Craig McAllister's header doubled their lead 10 minutes later.
Alan White was dismissed two minutes from time to add to Darlington's misery in the week they entered administration.

Bradford slipped out of the play-off places after they lost 3-1 at 15th-placed Notts County.
A first-half brace from Jonathan Forte put County comfortably in the lead before Delroy Facey bagged a third in first-half stoppage time.
Peter Thorne grabbed a late consolation for the visitors five minutes from time.

Two goals in the final four minutes saw relegation-threatened Chester come back from two goals down to snatch a point against Dagenham & Redbridge.
The promotion-chasing visitors seemed on the cusp of an important victory following first-half goals from Ben Strevens and Matt Ritchie.
But David Mannix pulled one back four minutes from time and Kevin Roberts headed in the equaliser three minutes later.

Luton triumphed 3-1 at Port Vale to keep alive their slim hopes of avoiding relegation, and are now 14 points off safety with a game in hand.
John McCombe gave Vale the lead in the 26th minute but Asa Hall levelled matters two minutes from the break and Kevin Gallen fired the visitors in front seven minutes after the interval. Chris Martin sealed the points in the 63rd minute.

Aldershot also triumphed 3-1, against Accrington Stanley.
A strike by Kirk Hudson and a Jake Robinson brace put Aldershot firmly in control at the end of the first half before Craig Lindfield grabbed a consolation for the visitors in the 62nd minute.

Elsewhere, Rotherham beat Lincoln 1-0 thanks to Michael Cummins' 65th-minute goal and Chesterfield were held to a 1-1 draw by Barnet.
Ismail Yakubu gave the visitors the lead in the 33rd minute but Daniel Hall pounced 16 minutes from time to snatch a share of the points.

Thanks JTC - we have a 12 point lead btw not 8 as you had in your report.

I watched the highlights (and read a few reports) and it is not often a team scores an equilising goal in the 97th minute! A bit of luck there with the amount of added time but the dons only had themselves to blame making 2 injury time subs! Also the Dons 2nd goal was an "arsey piece of luck" with our on loan keeper Bunn (who has just gone back to Blackburn too) making a great save after Leven caught out our sleepy defenders only to see the ball bounce of the keepers legs back onto the striker and rebound in. Having said that Bunn should have saved the first goal - it was a weak attempt IMO.

Fryatt's first for us was a great goal!

Bollocks  You know I am beginning to dread it when I see you have posted on this thread.

My excuse, it is 1:30 am here

Record crowd for the dons new stadium I heard, just over 17,700 there. They have come along way since the 4,500 they used to get when they were in the CCC, or the 7,500 in th EPL.

Wimbledon AFC currently top if the Conference League South too. Never forgive them for beating Burnley 1 - 0 in the FA Cup at Turf Moor. We were in the old 1st Div and they were in the Southern League then. Probably one of the biggest shock in FA Cup history . Sorry side tracked.

No worries JTC - BTW the Blue Army provided 4500 of the 17500. Not a bad travelling crowd. The club wanted more tickets as there were plenty of extras that wanted to travel but as with Leeds, the FL Officials had decided pre-season to limit the number of away tickets for both clubs due to the fears of violence (at the grounds and around the various towns!) with the large travelling support both clubs have. Ironically whilst Leicester's "Baby Squad" were recently polled in 2nd as the worst hooligan element in English Football, the notorious Millwall supporters have no limits on their travelling support although they don't have anywhere the numbers Leeds and Leicester do!

Round Up

Coca-Cola League One leaders Leicester could manage only a 1-1 draw with Stockport as Peterborough moved into second place with a win at Leyton Orient tonight.
Leicester scored after 65 seconds through Kerrea Gilbert. But the visitors responded just a minute later, former Foxes player Chris O'Grady slotting the ball past debutant goalkeeper David Stockdale.
The result maintained Leicester's 12-point advantage at the top.

But it is now Peterborough who lead the chasing pack, Darren Ferguson's side hanging on for a 3-2 victory over Leyton Orient which moved them above MK Dons into the second automatic promotion spot.
Chris Whelpdale (6) and Sergio Torres (12) netted early on to put Posh firmly in control - and after Scott McGleish had responded from the penalty spot, Russell Martin's header on the stroke of half-time restored the two-goal advantage.
McGleish scored his second on 56 minutes to set up a nervy finale, but the visitors held firm to go a point clear of Roberto Di Matteo's MK Dons - albeit having played three games more.

The Dons' match with Northampton was abandoned at half-time because of a waterlogged pitch, with the score at 0-0.

Millwall consolidated their play-off position by halting Southend's good run of form with a 1-0 win at Roots Hall.
Gary Alexander scored the winner on 39 minutes to move the Lions into fifth place at the expense of Leeds, who could only draw at fellow promotion rivals Oldham yesterday.

Scun.thorpe missed their chance to overtake Leeds after being held to a 1-1 draw at home to Walsall.
The Iron looked set for victory when Kayode Odejayi headed in with a little over 10 minutes to go - but five minutes later, Troy Deeney equalised to leave the match all square and **** still a point outside the play-off places.

Tranmere's promotion push faltered with a 2-1 defeat at Hartlepool, Michael Nelson (69) and a penalty from Ben Clark (83) securing the points for Pool either side of a strike from Ben Chorley (70) in a late flurry of goals at Victoria Park.

Bottom club Cheltenham showed spirit on the day their manager announced the entire squad was up for sale, holding struggling Swindon to a 2-2 draw at the County Ground.
Hal Robson-Kanu gave the hosts the lead in the 35th minute, but Elvis Hammond (33, 54) hit back before Kevin Amankwaah's equaliser on 66 minutes.

Crewe remain in trouble a point from the drop zone, after they were defeated 2-1 at home by Carlisle.
Substitute Joe Anyinsah (73) gave the visitors all three points after goals in the first half from Gareth Taylor (17) and Clayton Donaldson (34).

Elsewhere, Huddersfield and Colchester drew 2-2 at the Galpharm Stadium - Dean Hammond adding to his first half penalty (19) by scoring an injury-time equaliser for the Us to cancel out strikes from Anthony Pilkington (51) and Gary Roberts (66).

Yeovil's match with Hereford and Bristol Rovers' encounter with Brighton were both postponed because of waterlogged pitches.

Round Up

Front-runners Brentford extended their lead at the top of Coca-Cola League Two tonight with a 1-0 win at relegation-threatened Grimsby.
The division's top goalscorer Charlie MacDonald netted the winner on 27 minutes to put the Bees four points clear of their nearest rivals.

The result sent Grimsby into the bottom two - allowing Bournemouth, who started the season on minus 17 points, to move out of the relegation zone for the first time after they beat Aldershot 2-0.
Danny Hollands scored on 39 minutes before Steve Fletcher, the 36-year-old who has made a record 502 appearances for the Cherries, scored his first goal since returning to the club from Crawley in January.

Back near the top, Wycombe recovered their form against Chester - Matt Phillips (26) and John-Paul Pittman (66) on target either side of the break to secure a 2-0 win which moved the Chairboys up to second.

They replaced Rochdale, who slumped to a 2-1 defeat at strugglers Barnet.
John O'Flynn put the hosts ahead on 42 minutes only for Lee McEvilly to equalise seconds later. Yannick Bolasie sealed a valuable three points for Barnet with a winner in injury time.

Bury stayed fourth but were similarly disappointing, losing 2-1 at home to Chesterfield.
Aaron Downes put the visitors ahead after just two minutes, with Jack Lester doubling the lead on 40 minutes before Andy Bishop's consolation penalty in the second half.

Bradford enjoyed the greatest surge, moving up three places into fifth with a 1-0 win over Macclesfield courtesy of Dean Furman's winner on the hour.

They leapfrogged promotion rivals Exeter and Shrewsbury, who played out a 1-1 draw at the Prostar Stadium.
Grant Holt opened the scoring with a powerful strike from the penalty spot on 51 minutes, but Marcus Stewart's equaliser seven minutes from time made it honours even and left the sides in sixth and eighth place respectively.

In between them occupying the final play-off spot is Gillingham, who could only manage a goaless draw at basement boys Luton.

Dagenham & Redbridge slid further behind in the race for the play-offs, losing 3-0 at home to Lincoln to leave them 10 points adrift in ninth place.
Aaron Brown (44) scored just prior to half-time, before late strikes from Anthony Elding (84) and Janos Kovacs (87) put the gloss on a victory that moves Lincoln up to 12th.

Darlington put their administration woes behind them, Robin Hulbert's (5) early goal giving them a 1-0 win against Notts County a week after they were hit with a 10-point deduction.

Rotherham's match against Morecambe and Accrington's encounter with Port Vale were both postponed because of waterlogged pitches.

I am going to do it again JTC ;) 13 point lead as the Dons game was abandoned.

They now have 3 games in hand so if they win all 3 they could draw within 4 points of us! God knows when we are next going to actually win a game and at home too but I suppose we still are remaining unbeaten. Doesn't help when we have a revolving door of injured and on loan keepers - I think 5 blokes have donned the keepers shirt in the first tam at Leicster this season!

Surely we will beat rock bottom Cheltenham at home this Sat???

Mid week Round Up

Peterborough cemented their automatic promotion status after bouncing back from a goal deficit against a determined **** at London Road.
Chris Whelpdale and Craig Mackail-Smith converted to cancel out Henri Lansbury's first half strike to bridge the gap between second and third place.

Promotion rivals MK Dons, however, were made to settle for a point against Huddersfield as defender Andy Butler brought the visitors level late on following Sam Boldock's earlier strike.

Jermaine Beckford scooped a hat-trick as Leeds United regained their play-off status with an impressive 4-0 win over Yeovil at Elland Road.

Elsewhere, fellow promotion hopefuls Millwall required just the one goal from Gary Alexander to secure their third consecutive league victory against Northampton.

Stockport continued their challenge on the top six with their first win in five games against a lacklustre Hartlepool, Michael Mackay's late strike offering minor consolation for the travelling fans.

Colchester's Clive Platt netted a brace in a five-goal thriller in Essex as the U's saw out a narrow 3-2 victory over strugglers Swindon.

Elsewhere, fellow relegation battlers Leyton Orient picked up a crucial three points on the road against Carlisle pulling them four points clear of the drop zone.

Brighton, in the mean time, were dealt a hammer blow to their survival hopes with yet another home defeat at the hands of Southend, Lee Barnard netting a brace for the Blues who fought out 3-1 victors at the Whitdean Stadium.

Lowly Hereford were also left licking their wounds as Rickie Lambert netted a hatrick for the travelling Bristol Rovers fans, whilst Crewe secured a stoppage time point against Walsall in a hard-fought 1-1 draw.

Leicester's club-record 23-match unbeaten league run came to a halt as they were beaten 2-0 by play-off chasing Tranmere.
There was not a real chance in the first-half until the 39th minute, when a mistake by City's Michael Morrison let in Bas Savage but David Stockdale turned the shot away for a corner.
Steve Howard twice missed the target for the visitors and Antony Kay and Ben Chorley had no better fortune for the Merseysiders,
Tranmere's opening goal came two minutes after half-time with a fine strike from the corner of the box by Kay when set up by Savage.
The home side continued to hold the upper hand but Terry Gornell saw a 63rd-minute header deflected for a corner and then Savage fired across the face of the goal.
But eight minutes from time Savage was brought down by Chris Powell and Steve Jennings found the right-hand corner with the spot kick.

Yeah, but Scun.thorpe have that game in hand. Sure is tight in the bottom half of the pay offs now Pidge. Only a couple of points separate about 6 sides.

Makes for an exciting season end for the fans tough

Round Up

The top two in League One consolidated their automatic promotion places as Leicester and Peterborough both battled to 1-0 wins to keep a rampant MK Dons at bay in third.

The leaders Leicester took all three points at Millwall courtesy of Steve Howard's 22nd-minute winner at the Walkers Stadium, while second-placed Peterborough managed to grind out victory against Northampton despite playing almost the entire 90 minutes with 10 men.

Posh's Congolese defender Gabriel Zakuani was dismissed in only the seventh minute for a professional foul, but Charlie Lee's headed goal on 33 minutes proved enough for Darren Ferguson's resilient troops, who stay nine points behind the Foxes.

It was a different story at Stadium MK where Roberto Di Matteo's Dons eventually blew Oldham away 6-2, having come from behind twice in the first half.
Kevin Maher's free-kick gave the visitors the lead only four minutes in, but Aaron Wilbraham's close-range finish on the half hour levelled.
Lee Hughes then restored Oldham's advantage five minutes before the break, but Jason Puncheon equalised two minutes later and the Dons did not look back from there.
Oldham crumbled in the second period, Sam Baldock netting a quick brace soon after the break, Alan Navarro scoring from long range with 10 minutes to go and substitute Ali Gerba completing the rout in the 94th minute.

Leeds retained their play-off position behind Millwall in fifth with a 1-0 win over Swindon on a mixed day for striker Jermaine Beckford, who scored the winner three minutes from the end but then got himself sent off deep into injury time.

Tranmere moved into the final play-off spot with a 3-1 victory against Huddersfield, Anthony Kay netting a double for Rovers either side of Bas Savage's strike. Scun.thorpe stay seventh after recording a 1-1 draw at Carlisle.

At the other end of the table, rock-bottom Cheltenham ended their winless sequence with a 2-0 win over Hartlepool, courtesy of a first-half penalty from Elvis Hammond and a late second from substitute Nicholas Bignall.

The result moves the Robins to within five points of second-bottom Hereford, who lost 1-0 at home to Southend, while Brighton's new manager Russell Slade got one over his old club with an emphatic 5-0 success against Yeovil, Dean Cox and Nicky Forster scoring two goals a piece to put the Seagulls three points from their visitors - and safety - in 22nd.

Elsewhere, Bristol Rovers posted the same thumping scoreline at Walsall, while there were also wins for Leyton Orient over Stockport and Crewe over Colchester.

Round Up

The clash of the top two sides in League Two did not disappoint as leaders Brentford played out a six-goal thriller with Wycombe at Griffin Park.
Jordan Rhodes bundled home from close range to put the hosts ahead inside two minutes, but John Akinde marked his Wycombe debut by equalising with a header on 15 minutes.
David Hunt restored the Bees' lead with a deceptive free-kick six minutes later, only for the visitors to draw level again five minutes before the break through former Brentford player John Mousinho.
Akinde, on loan from Bristol City, then gave Wycombe the lead four minutes into the second half with a superb solo effort, but the Chairboys made life difficult for themselves after Tommy Doherty's alleged elbow reduced them to 10 men on 67 minutes.
Brentford upped the ante and were rewarded 10 minutes from the end when substitute Sam Williams struck to make it 3-3.

Third-placed Rochdale were unable to capitalise after going down 2-1 at home to Rotherham, Reuben Reid and Ryan Taylor putting the visitors two ahead before Adam Le Fondre's reply.

Bury stay fourth after Andy Bishop's late equaliser secured them a 1-1 draw at Lincoln, who had striker Anthony Elding sent off after half an hour.

Exeter moved up to fifth with a 1-0 win over fellow promotion rivals Bradford, although it was Gillingham who had looked set to take advantage of Bury's slip and assume third position until two late strikes from the league's top scorer, Grant Holt, salvaged a 2-2 draw for Shrewsbury at the Priestfield Stadium.
The result lifts Paul Simpson's side into the final play-off spot, just behind the Gills, who fall to sixth.

At the bottom, Luton look certain to be relegated after losing 2-1 to Aldershot in the early kick-off, the Hatters still 15 points from safety with 10 games remaining.

The two sides directly above them, Chester (22nd) and Grimsby (23rd), met at the Deva Stadium and played out a 1-1 draw which keeps them separated by a point either side of the relegation cut-off line.

The stalemate allowed Bournemouth to continue their heroic bid for survival, a 2-0 win at Macclesfield meaning that having started the season on -17, Eddie Howe's team are now four points clear of the drop zone.
The Cherries have lost only twice in 13 league games since Howe, at 31 the football league's youngest manager, took over the club in January.

Elsewhere, there were wins for Port Vale over Darlington and Morecambe over Barnet, while Notts County against Accrington Stanley and Chesterfield v Dagenham & Redbridge both finished 1-1.

Leeds still grinding out the good results. Hope we can get promoted.

Also good to see Grimsby hit form with a win against the 3rd placed team on the weekend. It has lifted them 1 point out of the relegation zone in League 2

What are peoples thoughts on Jermaine Beckford? Are other clubs trying to poach him from Leeds? Hopefully he helps us to promotion.
