Best stance to make imo. why try to keep hold of a player that doen't want to be there. Ask Spurs, they have experience in this filed ;)

TOURE SET FOR £15m CITY SWITCH
Manchester City are confident of securing Kolo Toure's transfer from Arsenal by the end of this week in a move which would take manager Mark Hughes' spending this summer close to the £100million mark.

Talks between City and Arsenal are continuing and Gunners manager Arsene Wenger has conceded the Ivory Coast defender could be leaving.

It is understood City are very hopeful of wrapping up a deal for the 28-year-old, for a sum in the region of £15million, before the end of the week.

Hughes has already spent £80.5million, including £25million on Emmanuel Adebayor from Arsenal as well as the costly signings of Roque Santa Cruz, Carlos Tevez and Gareth Barry. He is thought to also be keen on Everton defender Joleon Lescott.

Sounds like Wenger is resigned to losing Toure

What is going on at "Le Arse". Heard that Eboue is most likely on his way out as well....

Not sure of Arsenals finances but with the new stadium you would think they would be dependent on Champions League Football...unless Wenger buys a player or 2 of experience (which he has been reluctant to do) i think they may miss the top 4 this year.

Spot on Swooper. And here's the latest press release that pretty well supports your thoughts, even if is presented in a positive slant.

NO TRANSFER PANIC FOR WENGER

Sir Alex Ferguson may have claimed this week Arsene Wenger "doesn't have the money" but the Arsenal manager has insisted there is cash available for transfers - only his squad is strong enough without any more new signings. Yeah right

The Gunners, linked with a move for their former skipper Patrick Vieira on a pay-as-you-play basis, have made only one signing, defender Thomas Vermaelen from Ajax, but have sold both Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor to Manchester City.

Arsenal are £30million up on the deals but have debts to service on the Emirates Stadium, and it was this that prompted Ferguson to speculate it will be Wenger's side who feel the biggest threat from big-spending City.

Emmanuel Eboue could also leave Arsenal, with Fiorentina weighing up a £7million bid for the Ivory Coast midfielder.

thanks for the info fellas. IMO tho i believe we will go ok. Some of the fans think that the players that have been sold or gone is a case of clean house a little. Adebayor wasnt one of most fans favourites. Eboue if he goes , well we all know what happened to him during the game against wigan at home the last season. Toure is a big loss tho, but he has brought in the defender from Ajax and from what i have heard he is not to bad.

In our trial games we have been scoring BIG, 7-1 one game, and 5-0 on another, but yes these are trial games and not serious.

But i guess only time will tell.

The goal for Dennis Bergkamp vs Newcastle in 2002, Arsenal won 2-0 was voted the best goal by the millions of Arsenal fans, with the Thierry henry goal vs Man united in 2000 a close second

Yep. Although Adebayor is far less controversial in this particular sellout, so I guess Touche to me.

Le Arse are in financial trouble because they built their stadium at the height of the world economic boom, meaning they paid close to top dollar for everything involved. I'm not sledging it at all, because (can't believe I'm writing this) it's a fantastic stadium, but the facts are that they paid a huge amount in hindsight.

Now that things have gone so pear shaped, their repayments and interest costs have become a significant hindrance. Although they have 30m from player sales, I highly doubt whether Wenger will be allowed to spend even a fraction of it. Not so much because they capital reinvestment of 30m will be an issue, but the Arse board will be unlikely to spend a chunk on a player who is going to now demand silly wages (because of Man Citeh) and put further ongoing pressure on the club's finances.

Wenger can go on about youth etc, but the truth is, they can't buy high class players because they don't have the clout. Their youth is quality, but I highly doubt they can cover the players they've lost.

If they do miss CL this season, it will be a huge hit. I can't see it though personally. (unfortunately)

Mate, Le Arse will be paying off the stadium for years. It was only completed in 2005 remember. It's only 2009.

Excluding debts, Arsenal are one of the richest clubs in the world. Probably only Real Madrid, Manure, and maybe Barca are more wealthy. However, when debts are taken into account, Arsenal fall well down the list.

Unfortunately, you won't find an exact measure of their finances anywhere, just estimates put together by auditors and analysts.
