Definitely a good signing but like others have said, the guy is always injured and is not worth 90k a week. That is criminal.

At least Torres will be able to keep him company in the sick room.

I wasn't sure whether to put this in here or in the jokes theread on the GD board

Roy - No money motive for Cole

Reds manager insists cash was not behind switch
Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson insists money was not the driving force behind Joe Cole's move to Anfield.
Winger Cole was left a free agent after failing to agree a new contract with Chelsea this summer, and much was made of the England international's reported demands of £90,000-a-week in wages.
But while Hodgson admits the financial aspect was obviously a consideration for the Reds, the new manager is adamant the 28-year-old chose to join the Merseysiders for the football opportunities.

Haaaaaaa......yeah right. You keep telling us that Roy and we might start to believe you

PS, did you all know that the moon is made of cheese

I think you're title is incorrect Johnny, now if it had referred to the "diving force" you might be a little closer to the mark .. Anyway, that's enough JC bagging now, it's out of my system (almost) (maybe) .. From now on it's, Joe Cole was always the best player at Chelsea, far too good for them and had always aspired to playing for the best club in England, as he now does ;)

It also means we finally have a premiership player in our team :D

Oh crap, the season hasn't even started and already Im depressed :?

Good, he must be due after last season was perhaps his poorest (by his lofty standards)

Shortly after completing his move from Liverpool to Greek outfit Olympiacos, Albert Riera penned this letter to all Liverpool fans.

Dear Liverpool supporters,

I would like to say goodbye and thank you for the opportunity to play in this fantastic club. I would like to thank the fans for their support; you're unbelievable. I would also like to thank the staff and my team mates.

I would like to wish the club all the best for the new season, I can see there's a lot of changes taking place and its like a breath of fresh air into the club. I think the club will have a very positive future.

I want the fans to remember me as a player who tried to give his best. My first year here was one of the best seasons and the closest the club have come to winning the Premier League.

Last season was a season for everyone to forget in all ways, which can happen to any club. In football it's important to look forward and forget the past.

I felt it was time for a change and I'm looking forward now to the new challenges which lie ahead.

Best wishes
Albert Riera

Torres has confirmed he's staying! :D The things he says about this great club... He's a breath of fresh air in these increasingly money-driven times. He could have easily gone this season with no Champs League for the Reds, but no. A credit to his family I say!

Nah.....he had to guarantee City that he would be fit enough to play 5 games a year. His agent turned them down stating they were making excessive demands ;)

GANIS DEFENDS LIVERPOOL BID
By Carla Hilton

A key member of the Chinese consortium bidding to buy Liverpool has defended their approach which he says is in the best interests of the club.
Marc Ganis, whose Chicago-based company Sportscorp Ltd, has helped form the investment group, said that any takeover would not enrich American co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett.
Instead, he has implied that a significant amount of cash would be given to construct the long-delayed new stadium which will replace Anfield.

He has also suggested that a large sum would be available to invest in new signings which would make a debt-free Liverpool major challengers in the upcoming campaign.
Ganis said: "We haven't submitted a formal proposal but we submitted the broad parameters of what a proposal would look like to see if it would be welcomed, and it was.
"What is not one of our goals is the enrichment of the existing owners.
"If we submit a proposal and it is accepted, it would be focused on the future and not the past."

Barclays has told potential bidders they will have to prove their financial status before any proposal is accepted.
Current co-owner Hicks has said he wants a minimum $950million (£600m) for Liverpool whose known debt last stood at $375million (£237m).
Ganis, though, said his consortium would not bid close to that sum, leaving the door open for other investors to pip them to the post.
Syrian businessman Yahya Kirdi looks a leading player with his consortium of investors from the Middle East and Canada who have claimed they are close to completing a takeover.

"If anybody wants to (bid that sum), good luck," said Ganis, who is yet to reveal how much his group are willing to invest.
"We know what we would be prepared to do. If somebody else wants to look at it in a different way, it's their money. That would be their business, not ours."

Ganis has also moved to reassure current members of the management team.
He said: "From what we have seen from afar, many of the people currently running Liverpool are doing a good job.
"There shouldn't be an expectation there would be a mass upheaval if we submit and we are approved."

I am suprised that we are only a week away from the start of the season and the Liverpool saga is still rolling on. It can't be good for Hodgson and his team to have this hanging over them. Liverpool need stability as soon as possible. I think they have taken a big step in that directioin with the appointment of Hodgson, but all of the gains could be for nothing if they don't get a takeover tied up fairly quickly. Not only will there be continued unreast and uncertainty, but the presence of Gillette and Hicks will still wrangle with the fans.

From Liverpoolfc.tv

Liverpool FC statement regarding the proposed sale of the club.

The Liverpool FC Board has reviewed a number of proposed bids for the club at a meeting held today.

The Board will continue to act in the best interests of Liverpool Football Club and its supporters, doing all that it can to ensure that the club is ultimately sold to a buyer who has the resources and real commitment to give it a long-term, stable and secure funding position for its plans.

The sale process is continuing. However, its timing and outcome remain uncertain. In the meantime, we will not comment on rumour and speculation.
