He was actually was a bit of a bad lad, so the Police wouldn't have had to ask him how to spell his surname, they'd have written it down enough.

But he was a good fella, just a little wayward in his youth...

When too many people are let into a ground where there were no seats, before full seater stadiums were mandatory, into an area which you couldn't swing a cat , then the fences are so high at the ground level to prevent fans running out the pitch during English footballs hooliganism era, a human crush occurred.
Google Bradford city fire also for another tragedy if you want to know about others

I dont want to sound like an arsehole but it wasn't quite that simple. Even though it was standing only, you still had to have a ticket to get in.
A lot has been said about whose fault it was, and who did what. The police were not entirely honest in thier reports at the time which is why the CPS overturned the Accidental Death verdict and why it is all going on again now,
The simple fact is that there were 000's of Liverpool fans there that didnt have tickets. The policce paniced and the guy in charge decided on the spur of th emoment to let them in, which I suppose he thought was better than to have them outside where he had less control of them.
Remember the times were different then and you are right, hooliganism was far more prevelent than it is today.
There were so many spurious accusations going on at the time, about ambulance people robbing the dead, Liverpool fans robbing the dead, police beating up fans who were carrying injured and dead away from the scene, Sheffield Weds issueing more tickets than the stand could hold, people getting in with bogus forged tickets, just so much crap it was difficult to know who to believe, although it is safe to say there was no one robbing anyone.
It would be very easy to say that if those Liverpool fans that didn't have tickets to get in, didn't turn up at the game, then none of what transpired would have happened. ?? Who knows??
What is certain, those who were crushed to death were at the front and would have been some of the first into that stand almost certainly would have had tickets. They had nothing to do with any decisions made by anyone outside the ground and were the most innocent of all who were there.
It was a terrible disaster and I don't fully understand how it could be anything but a tragic accident.

Agreed, very tragic accident.
Not as clear cut as Heysel where Liverpool fans were 100% at fault in the deaths of Juve fans

Heard that if sacked before the end if his first season, it's in his contract that the full six seasons do not have to be paid, only a portion.
