Bad loss today. All Clarets but two very ropy penalties gifts it to PNE.

Ended with 65% of the possession to the Clarets, and more than double the shots on target. Only the two penalties made the difference. Owen Coyle on TV very very unhappy, which show the level of ineptitude of the ref as Owen is a very considered guy who, unlike me, never criticises the men in black.

Funny thing is, Sedgewick for PNE, "handballed" in the PNE penalty box, not dissimilar to the Caldwell incident, and the ref just waved it away as accidental.

Mellor had his arms al over Caldwell almost ripping his shirt off, yet the ref misses that and awards Mellor with the penalty.

Like I said, 4 sending off's and 3 penalties against the Clarets in the 4 games he has reffed says something to me.

Soccernet's correspondent saw it differently...

It was their 11th home victory of the season and was deserved as the visitors' goal led a charmed life throughout.

The Burnley match was live on TV here so I watched most of the game. It was fairly even I thought and a draw probably would have been a fair result, PNE may have had their share of chances but Burnley also went very close to levelling before Blake finally scored... and it was an absolute belter of a freekick.

The first penalty was a bit weak, the PNE player basically fell into Jensen but the keeper didn't really complain so maybe it was there... he should never have dived in when he did. It was always going to end bad.

As for the second one, that was clearly the worst. Yeah his arm was sticking out away from his body but Mellor was holding his arm up there. Pretty ordinary and it was almost saved.

As for Cardiff City. Well Ledley scored and it looked like they would amazingly win at St Andrews but bloody Lee Bowyer scores at the death to give those blue bastards a point. I was absolutely gutted.

Glad to see you caught it Marty. What pissed me most about the 1st penalty, the PNe player was going to ground before Jensen arrived, so he ended up landing on top of the Beast. Clearly played to the ball too far in front, could see it was going for a goal kick so just fell over. soft, very soft.

What poetic justice and what a nice suprise to see a ref add on time for deliberate time wasting. Charlton came to town today and showed why they are the leagues bottom side. One solitary attack produced a goal, and that was it. they offered absolutely nothing.

It looked like another one of thoses days, as the Clarets had 1.4 million shots on goal and just couldn't make the break through. Charlton take it down the other end and score and with the Christmas curse still in full flow, we expected the worse.

The second half continued in the same vein as the fisrt with the Clarets having all the possession and all the goal mouth incidents. Coyles line up was very questionable, with both Eagles and Elliot playing on the right wing, and a solitary Patto up front against the leagues bottom side at home. Where was the desire to take the game to Charlton ?? But at least he finally saw the light and moved Eagles to the left, playing with two outright wingers and then bringing on a 2nd striker in Thompson. Thommo duely obliged and the Clarets were level.

Charltons blatant time wasting was disgraceful. I can understand that thay are desperate for points but f$%k me. It started about 30 mins into the first half, and just got worse and worse as the game wore on. Players feigning injury, the keeper arsing about with the ball at goal kicks, and kicking the ball away at free kicks. The ref made a point of showing his watch and finally had enough and booked a Charlton player for kicking the ball into touch after another free had been awarded.

Burnley continued to press and when the board flashed up 6 mins added time, it was just the encouragement we needed. Thomo delivered the goods after 94 mins and the Clarets had at at last won a league game this year.

OK, so they were playing lowly Charrlton, and if you are ever goiing to challenge for a play off spot, these are the games you need to win, but it is more significant than that. Burnley never gave up and like the the WBA game last week, got the reward of a late goal for their efforts. But most of all, we have finally broken that Christmas League duck.

Now for WBA at the Turf on Tuesday and hopefully an away $$$$ bonus at the Emirates (Cardiff permitting)

I forgot to mention, Burnley's new loan right back Rhy Williams, had a pretty solid game. good looking player, signed on loan from Boro until the end of the season.

Williams had only signed a 3 year deal with Boro the day before, and is an Aussie from Perth, so if anyone knows anything about him, I would be grateful to hear it.

Another win to Cardiff. Flying high at the moment and still an outside chance at grabbing an auto-promotion spot. I think we have blown that though with those dropped points at Reading and Birmingham.

I think you will end up making the trip to the Emirates JTC... Cardiff had the chance to knock Arsenal out of the Cup at Ninian so I don't hold out much hope in London. In saying that though, they have been ordinary at home and have drawn a lot... I'd take that and a crack at extra time/penalties.

Damn him.

I guess he'd rather be a spectator of World Cups than a participant.

Although, I may have spoken too soon, as Wales are finally putting together a decent side:

Bale
Ledley
Gunter
Aaron Ramsey
Wayne Hennessey
Jason Koumas
Dare I say it.... Bellamy
Simon Davies

Following on from Martys comments re-the coin throwing yob at Cardiff

It seems they already have the bloke.

Thanks to The Sporting Life

JONES LAMBASTS COIN THROWER

Dave Jones insisted the Cardiff supporter who hit referee Mike Dean with a coin ruined a pulsating South Wales derby.

Wirral official Dean drew blood and required medical treatment after he was struck above the right eye in the 42nd minute of the 2-2 Championship draw.

The supporter was identified and arrested at Ninian Park but Cardiff manager Jones believed the incident overshadowed and soured a fantastic advert for Welsh football.

Jones said: "It was an absolutely crazy thing to do. The chairman will be making a statement but throwing a coin could have easily taken someone's eye out. It could have hit one of our players, one of the Swansea players or the referee. Why do it? It's the last thing we need down here. We've worked really hard to get away from all that and improve our image - I can't understand the mentality of the person. We have all the banter, the shouting and atmosphere but it's just a football match. I thought those days were long gone.It was total stupidity and it has taken the edge off a great game of football. It's sad because everyone will be talking about the man who threw the coin rather than a game which had everything - excitement, controversy and last minute penalty."

watched the game was a good game. But have to say these people that throw things especially coins should be thrown out of the ground ( which they did ) and Banned for life. Would not be a very good thing if that had have hit a player in the eye and blinded him or the ref. Im sure that if this person or people had have thrown it in the wrong direction and the wind caught it and it came back towards the fans and took someones eye out the person that threw it would not have gotten off lightly. THESE PEOPLE SHOULD GET THE BOOK THROWN AT THEM. If not a life ban at least some jail time in my view. We all have our views and disliking to the ref decisions at times but its no excuse to do this.

Not good news for Southampton.

Thanks to Skysports

League launches Saints inquiry

Southampton's finances to be investigated

The Football League has launched a full inquiry into Southampton's finances to decide whether to punish the Championship club over the collapse of their holding company.

The League deducts 10 points when clubs go into administration due to financial problems.

Relegation-threatened Southampton had hoped to avoid such a penalty because its parent company and not the club went into administration last week.

But the League is now looking into the relationship between the club and Southampton Leisure Holdings.

Football League chairman Lord Mawhinney confirmed to Sky Sports News that he hopes for a conclusion "as soon as possible".

The League said in a statement: "The Football League board today considered the position of Southampton Football Club.

"The League board has instructed its legal advisors to commission an independent forensic accountancy report in order to clarify the legal and financial position of the club, as a matter of urgency.

"The board will reconvene once that report is available."

Rams to reduce squad & wages

Club look at measures to deal with debt

Derby have announced they plan to reduce their wage bill by cutting the size of their squad.

The Rams are £23million in debt and they plan to cut that figure by trimming their 33-man squad to a more manageable number.

Rams chairman Adam Pearson confirmed the club have agreed a wage budget and transfer budget for next season.

"We have tried the big-squad route," said Pearson. "Wage-wise, it will not be as generous as it was this season. We have worked a figure out (wage budget and transfer budget) we are happy with and it is one this club can afford."

£23m in debt. Tell me one company in the UK other than a bank and a football club that would be allowed to trade with such a huge debt ?
