Everyone needs to watch this piece of sheer brilliance from United. Stunning set play and goal but the incompetent linesman ruled it out.... and some people say United get everything their own way. ;)

According to tonights Highlights package, the linesman later said he saw it but "thought it was against the spirit of play" ... Only guessing here but his body language at the time suggested he didnt reallt know what was going on.

Pains me to say, but that 3-nil scoreline appeared to flatter Chelsea, and bloody Ronaldo hasn't even got going yet :(

Ronaldo has been receiving some motivational sessions with Mr Ferguson.

I'll agree that this was a goal and should have stood. It was all academic as Utd scored from the re-take anyway.

Personally, I would have rather said I hadn't seen it than come out with a piss weak statement like that.

I don't believe there is any law in the rules about " against the spirit of play".

Pathetic answer. Kick the fool out of the game.

yeah rooney did put it in the D then roll it out but im not sure if Webb had blown the whislte to play the ball, the linesman should have seen it but my understanding is that the 'Pitch' Ref has to blow his whislte for the ball to be played. not sure if he did or not

Totally agree. It was a rubbish response, he flagged because he wasn't paying attention. It's not up to the refs to decide about the spirit of play, they are there to govern the laws of the game. It was a genius move, completely fooled Chelsea and deserved to stand. Luckily we scored from the retake, just how bad was Chelsea's defence? What a shambles.

LOL Wasn't just the linesman it confused, I completely missed it .. .Did anyone pick it up at the time? Agree that the linesman is just making an excuse, and it's not his place to make a judgement call on what is or isn't in the "spirit of play", might aswell throw the rule book out the window then.

If "spirit of play" was an issue, they wouldn't let Man U on the pitch

I would have to agree with you on that, met a bloke last year who was wearing a Man U top and started to talk about Soccer with him and he told me he doesn't follow it. He only bought it because it looked good. Man that pisses me off but must admit he has good taste.

To be fair, the same would apply to all other clubs but I guess when you're the biggest name in the sport you're going to get more people claiming to be fans ... A few of my mates are Man U supporters, and these are guys that were following them back in the 80's when they were ordinary and they hate the hanger-on's.

No doubt Liverpool picked up a heap of "fans" in the 70's and 80's when they became the "in" club to those without allegiance.

If someone asked me if I followed 'soccer', I'd say I didn't too.
Football yes.

I know a couple of Reds like that.

Funny how Chavski doesn't attract the same level of hangers on. We were still happy to sing 'where were you when you were shit' at the Chavs when they were at the lane.

I know most people on here hate Ronaldo but how good is it that he got FIFA world player of the year. The first time someone from the Premier League has done so. Kaka,Torres and Messi missing out.
