Round Up

Scott Dobie's injury-time equaliser for Carlisle denied Coca-Cola League One leaders Leicester a dramatic victory at the Walker's Stadium on Saturday.
Matt Fryatt thought he had stolen a vital win for the Foxes when he headed home with less than three minutes to go but Dobie nodded home Michael Liddle's cross more than a minute into injury-time.
Michael Bridges had earlier given Carlisle the lead before Matt Oakley levelled matters.

Second-placed Peterborough closed the gap to two points with a late 2-1 win at Oldham.
Craig Mackail-Smith (26) gave Posh the lead but after Chris Taylor's 42nd-minute header, it needed Mackail-Smith's close-range strike four minutes from time to secure a commendable victory for Darren Ferguson's side.

Millwall kept up the pace with a comfortable 3-1 win at home to Walsall.
Jason Price (18) put the Lions in front early on and though Jabo Ibehre (29) put the Saddlers level, Gary Alexander scored either side of half-time to put the game beyond the Black Country side.

Fourth-placed MK Dons beat Brighton 2-0 at home to keep up their outside chance of snatching a top-two spot.
Ali Gerba (29) and Jason Puncheon's 40th-minute header secured three points for Roberto Di Matteo's side, who have a game in hand over the sides above them.

Luciano Becchio's left-footed effort shortly before the half-hour mark was enough to give fifth-placed Leeds a well-earned 1-0 win at Colchester.

Scun.thorpe occupy the final play-off spot but play in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final against Luton on Sunday.

That allowed Southend to move up to seventh for the time being courtesy of a 1-0 win at Huddersfield. Lee Barnard's 63rd-minute penalty after a handball by Tom Clarke provided the winner.

Hartlepool beat second-bottom Hereford 4-2 while rock-bottom Cheltenham lost 1-0 at home to Leyton Orient through Dean Morgan's solitary strike.

Mid-table pair Stockport and Yeovil shared a 0-0 draw, as did Swindon and relegation-threatened Crewe - who are only a point above fourth-bottom Northampton with the Cobblers holding two games in hand.

Round Up

Exeter stormed into the Coca-Cola League Two automatic promotion places with a 2-1 win over Dagenham and Redbridge.
The Grecians moved second after capitalising on Rochdale's 4-0 hammering at the hands of resurgent Bournemouth.
Stuart Fleetwood (16 and 49) scored both - with Ben Strevens scoring in between for the Dags -as Exeter recorded a victory which lifted them from fifth spot.

Rochdale's capitulation on the south coast came courtesy of Brett Pitman's impressive hat-trick.
Pitman scored in the 12th, 67th and 90th minutes with Liam Feeney scoring the other. The win took Bournemouth four point clear of the bottom two.

Leaders Brentford could only draw 1-1 at Bradford to miss the chance to extend their lead.
Billy Clarke's 63rd-minute header put the Bees in front only for Peter Thorne to fire home an equaliser nearly a minute into added time.

Second-placed Bury also dropped points, drawing 1-1 at Port Vale.
James Lawrie (57) had given Vale the lead but Elliott Bennett headed Bury level 11 minutes later.

Second-bottom Chester boosted their survival hopes with a 2-1 win at Notts County.
David Mannix (14) and Ryan Lowe (49) put Chester 2-0 up at Meadow Lane and though Mike Edwards (88) pulled one back, it was too late for the hosts to come back.

Gillingham and Shrewsbury remain sixth and seventh respectively after both failed to win.
The Gills suffered a 2-0 upset at home to Barnet - Paul Furlong and John O'Flynn's penalty doing the damage.
The Shrews, meanwhile, drew 1-1 at home to Grimsby. After a goalless first half Barry Conlon (55) put Grimsby ahead only for Ben Davies to equalise three minutes later.

Lincoln City beat Accrington 2-0 away from home through Scott Kerr's double.

Reuben Reid's 11th-minute strike from distance gave Rotherham a 1-0 win at Aldershot while Macclesfield and Chesterfield shared a 1-1 draw.

Darlington and Morecambe could not be separated in a stalemate in the north east.

Tues 7th April

LEAGUE 1

Results

Hereford 1-2 Brighton
Leyton O 2-2 Leeds

Round Up

Leeds blew the chance to go fourth in Coca-Cola League One when they let slip a 2-0 lead and had to settle for a 2-2 draw away to10-man Leyton Orient.
Robert Snodgrass' two goals, in the ninth and 60th minutes, appeared to have put United in control at Brisbane Road - especially after Jason Demetriou was sent off for the handball which led to the penalty for the visitors' second.
But Sean Thornton (65) kept hope alive, and then Simon Church answered Orient's prayers to salvage a point - leaving Leeds level with MK Dons but just behind their play-off rivals on goal difference.

At the bottom of the table, struggling Brighton earned three precious points at Hereford to stretch six clear of their hosts - who remain deep in relegation trouble.
Tommy Fraser (nine) and Lloyd Owusu (75) did the trick for Brighton, and Kris Taylor's 90th-minute effort for the hosts was too little too late in a 2-1 defeat.

LEAGUE 2

Results

Barnet 2-0 Rotherham
Chesterfield 1-1 Lincoln
Darlington 1-2 Wycombe
Port Vale 0-0 Aldershot

Round up

Wycombe rekindled their flagging promotion push with a crucial 2-1 victory at Darlington.
They prevailed 2-1 with a 90th minute winner from Chris Zebroski sealing three vital points.
John Akinde had given the Chairboys a first-half lead and despite an equaliser from Jason Kennedy, they are back up to second - only four points behind leaders Brentford.

Spoils were shared between Chesterfield and Lincoln at Saltergate, where a 1-1 draw keeps the Spireites still in with a great chance of a play-off place.
They were in front through Jack Lester (35) but had no answer to Adrian Patulea's 52nd-minute leveller.

There were no goals for either the hosts or Aldershot at Port Vale.

But Barnet made ground towards mid-table with a 2-0 win at home to Rotherham, on the back of two second-half goals from veteran forward Paul Furlong.

Round Up

Saturday 11 April 2009
Leicester opened up a four-point lead at the top of Coca-Cola League One after coming from behind to secure a 3-1 win at lowly Hereford.
The hosts, who are second from bottom, had taken a shock lead on the half-hour through Steve Guinan's penalty after Joe Mattock was adjudged to have brought down Jennison Myrie-Williams in the box.
But Matt Oakley equalised within five minutes and late strikes from Lloyd Dyer and Steve Howard ensured the Foxes continue their march towards automatic promotion.

Leeds consolidated their play-off position with a 1-0 win over Stockport, Jonathan Howson pouncing in the ninth minute after Conrad Logan had failed to deal with Robert Snodgrass ball.
Simon Grayson's team are now level on points with fourth-placed MK Dons and one behind Millwall in third.

They are joined in the top six by Tranmere, who leapfrogged **** courtesy of a 1-0 win at Walsall. Bas Savage scored the winner with 10 minutes to go with a header from Edrissa Sonko's cross.

At the bottom, Brighton remain deep in trouble after succumbing to a 3-2 home defeat against Swindon.
Adam Virgo had given the Seagulls a half-time lead, but three goals in 10 minutes from Gordon Greer, Billy Paynter and top-scorer Simon Cox turned the game on its head.
Gary Dicker pulled back a conslation in injury time but the result leaves Brighton six points from safety in 22nd position.

Neither Crewe nor Hartlepool could do much to ease their relegation fears after they played out a goalless draw at the Alexandra Stadium that leaves them 20th and 18th respectively.

Elsewhere, Leyton Orient overcame Colchester 2-1 at the Matchroom Stadium thanks to a late Jimmy Smith goal.
Monday 13 April 2009
MK Dons postponed Leicester's promotion party by beating Bristol Rovers to keep alive their own chances of a top-two finish in Coca-Cola League One.
The Foxes' dramatic 1-0 win over Leeds at lunchtime had put them within touching distance of promotion but the Dons' 2-1 victory meant Nigel Pearson's league leaders must wait for their return to the Championship to be confirmed.
Roberto di Matteo's Dons side made the breakthrough when Ali Gerba capitalised on some woeful Rovers defending to put the home side ahead after 29 minutes.
The points were effectively sealed for the Dons six minutes after the break when Luke Chadwick made it 2-0 and though Steve Elliott (83) pulled one back, the home side held on for the win.

Earlier, Leicester's closely-fought clash against Leeds seemed set to end in stalemate. However, more than a minute into stoppage time Steve Howard timed his run perfectly to powerfully head home Max-Alain Gradel's corner and send the bumper Walkers Stadium crowd into a frenzy.

Millwall still have a chance of automatic promotion after a 2-0 victory over Peterborough - whose own chances took a hit.
There was controversy over Millwall's opener after Joe Lewis twice saved a penalty only for the linesman to flag the keeper for moving off his line.
David Martin stepped up to bury the third attempt, and then turned provider in the second half as Jason Price turned home his cross from close-range to seal the points.

Play-off chasing Tranmere enjoyed a 2-1 win at home to Hereford despite finishing with 10 men to leave the Bulls bottom of the table.
Bas Savage's eighth-minute opener put Rovers ahead before Charlie Barnett (26) extended their lead.
However, Ian Goodison's sending-off in the 72nd minute left Tranmere vulnerable and when Steve Guinan scored a penalty two minutes into added time, the home side were relieved to hear the final whistle.

Cheltenham earned a stay of execution and lifted themselves off the bottom with a 1-0 win at home to 10-man Yeovil.
At a nervy Whaddon Road the first half was goalless but Frankie Artus fired home the winner five minutes into the second half. Yeovil tried in vain to mount a fightback but their chances were undermined by Gary Roberts' 79th-minute dismissal for a second booking.

Scun.thorpe won 3-2 at Hartlepool to maintain hope of securing a play-off berth.
Hartlepool's Michael Nelson levelled 18 minutes in after the Iron went ahead through Grant McCann's early free-kick.
Scun.thorpe regained the lead through Paul Hayes (55) and after Daniel Nardiello equalised again, Hayes struck another to take an exciting victory back home.

Brighton managed an edgy 1-0 win at Colchester but remain third from bottom despite Lloyd Owusu's headed winner. Northampton's superior goal difference kept Brighton from climbing a place.

The Cobblers, struggling in the last relegation spot, lost 3-2 at home to Southend.
Jean Francois Christophe put Southend a goal up heading towards the break only for Adebayo Akinfenwa to level just after the restart.
However, Theo Robinson's 56th-minute strike and Lee Barnard's goal four minutes later meant Aleksandar Prijovic's 80th-minute effort was merely a consolation.

Andy Booth's header 12 minutes from time earned Huddersfield a 1-0 home win over struggling Carlisle. The Cumbrians are now just one place and three points above the relegation zone after the defeat.

Crewe swapped places with Carlisle as they drew 1-1 at Oldham.

Elsewhere Walsall beat Stockport 2-1 and Swindon lost 1-0 at home to Leyton Orient.

Rochdale 1-0 Port Vale

Round Up

Saturday 11 April 2009
A last-gasp equaliser kept Brentford two points clear at the top as the race for promotion continued to hot up in Coca-Cola League Two.
Irish striker Billy Clarke netted in injury time to earn the Bees a vital point against fourth-placed Exeter at Griffin Park.
The visitors had taken the lead in the first half through Stuart Fleetwood and a win would have taken the Grecians into the automatic promotion places.
But Clarke struck at the end to keep the Londoners top of the pile, ahead now of Wycombe, who rose to second place with a 1-0 win over Gillingham.

John Akinde continued his good form since joining the Chairboys on loan with the winner four minutes before half-time.
The result leaves the Gills in sixth but they are now three points behind Rochdale, who consolidated their play-off spot with a 1-0 win over Port Vale, midfielder Will Buckley wrapping up the points in the first half.

Chesterfield now occupy the final play-off position after a 0-0 draw with Darlington enabled them to leapfrog Shrewsbury.

At the bottom, basement boys Luton came back down to earth after their Johnstones Paint Trophy victory at Wembley with a goalless draw at Lincoln which all but confirms their relegation.

Second-bottom Chester still have the chance to escape, but remain a point from safety after losing 2-0 at home to Macclesfield, Wayne Rooney's younger brother John netting his second goal of the season as the Silkmen moved 10 points clear of the bottom three.

And Grimsby are still hovering a point above the precipice after Michael Symes' goal gave Accrington Stanley victory at Blundell Park.

Elsewhere 40-year-old Paul Furlong scored his 200th career goal as Barnet beat Bournemouth 1-0, while Dagenham & Redbridge came from behind to run out 3-1 winners against Aldershot.
Monday 13 April 2009
Luton's relegation from the Football League was finally confirmed as they could only draw 0-0 at home to Chesterfield.
The Hatters, who have made a fist of their unlikely Coca-Cola League Two survival bid despite a 30-point deduction at the start of the season, only managed a goalless draw against the Spireites as Grimsby beat Notts County 2-0.
Town were victorious at Meadow Lane courtesy of goals by Robert Atkinson (52) and Danny Boshell (79), though they are not out of trouble themselves following Chester's victory earlier in the day.

Chester's 1-0 win at Accrington had earlier left Mike Newell's Luton a step closer to the precipice.
Second-bottom City temporarily lifted themselves out of the drop zone by beating mid-table Stanley courtesy of Ryan Lowe's goal five minutes before the break, which came from the penalty spot after he was fouled by Colin Murdock.

But Grimsby's win restored order as they went back up to 22nd spot with Chester back to second from bottom.

At the other end of the table leaders Brentford maintained their lead with a 1-0 win at Bournemouth, the victory coming courtesy of Darren Powell's header shortly before half-time. Powell was then sent off for violent conduct early in the second half.

Exeter beat Wycombe 1-0 thanks to Matthew Gill's second-half strike to replace their visitors in second spot while Bury's 2-2 draw at Darlington saw them slip out of the top three to fourth.
Bury had been on course for victory until Pawel Abbott's 74th-minute effort somehow found the back of the net.

Pretty sad to see a Millwall fan ran onto the field and hit Leeds goalkeeper Caspen Angreken on the weekend. POOR FORM IMO. Where was the security?

Incidentally, AFC Wimbledon, the side created by the fans when the original Wimbledon moved to Milton Keynes and changed thier name to the K Dons, has just won promotion from the Southern conference League as champions.

If my maths are correct, they will play in the Conference next year, just one step away from league football. An amazing achievement considering they began from scratch and the small supporter base that the original Wimbledon had to begin with.
