There was also an instance where the linesman flagged for offside incorrectly in which Liverpool would've scored.
One thing that impressed me BIGTIME, was that in this day and age of constant ref abuse, I can't recall 1 Burnley player blaming the ref for ANYTHING.
It was a very refreshing approach from the entire Burnley side towards fair play and I can't wish them enough luck for the rest of the season.

Had to laugh at the Djimi Traore chants as well.

Agree smithy, they had a good goal ruled out, but I wasn't going to mention that ;) And I don't see why you need to bring it up either :D

Well one thing I haven't mentioned is that Liverpool were down to 10 men after 0:00 .

You've lost me there smithy ? :?

Lucas started the game.

Liverpool believe their record-breaking shirt sponsorship deal could finally kick-start their new stadium project.

The Reds have agreed a four-year deal with Standard Chartered Bank which will see them replace Carlsberg as the club's main sponsor from the start of next season.

The deal is worth a reported £80million and managing director Christian Purslow believes the club can finally look to start work on their protracted new stadium project.

Liverpool have planning permission in place to build a new 60,000-seater stadium on Stanley Park, but the club's American owners have been reluctant to start work on the project due to a lack of funds.

"The overall financial health of our football club is a key ingredient of being able to get the stadium project back up and running," said Purslow.

"This is a huge step forward for the club financially and that can only be helpful to create the conditions in which we can restart the stadium project."

To be fair though, West Ham are not to be underrated, especially at Crapton Park.

They've got enough good players and a manager who's proving he's quality, to cause serious problems for anyone on their day.

This must be the most damming evidence yet that Liverpool and Rafa will struggle to compete with the other big 3 as they tout themselves about for another buyer / investor

Kop cap revealed: Liverpool cannot compete with Chelsea or Manchester United due to £20m limit on transfer spend

Liverpool's ability to compete with Chelsea and Manchester clubs United and City in the transfer market appears to have been hindered by a £20million spending cap, which has been locked in place until 2014.

The startling revelation was published in a prospectus back in March by investment banks Rothschild and Merrill Lynch to attract potential investors in the club.

The £20m spending cap, which will also include wage increases accruing from contract renewals, means that Anfield boss Rafa Benitez must continue to sell before he can buy over the next fives years as Liverpool chase their first league title since 1991.

John, I couldn;t find the thread with your comment saying you thought RAFA was a spending manager.
With more garbage coming out in the press from the yanks saying that they've been a godsend to the club and debts are worse at other clubs, here are some figures for you to ponder.
In any case, if the yanks are saying that new contract extensions are included in RAFA's budget, why he is being punished in 2009 for wages that are going to be paid in 2014?

That just proves my point smithy. How long hass Rafa been in charge at Liverpool and how masny players has he signed, and how much has he spent. Some players, Robbie Keene for example, have come and gone during his reign.

He is a compulsivewheeler dealer. Probably one of the reasons Liverpool aren't serious title contenders

No Torres, no Gerrard this week at Sunderland.

Will be interesting to see how Pool cope with two major outs.

Now I'm with ya.
I thought you were comparing him to someone like David O'Leary.
Looking at that it is a big turnover and I can put a couple of excuses  forward in his defence and those are.

1) He took longer than expected to get the right players and grip on what is the EPL

and

2) When you are chasing the pack, a bigger turnover is expected than Manu And Chel$ki who just have to fine tune a title winning squad.

In saying that, why are wages 5 years down the track being included in his current budget when Rafa has a net spend of 0 ?

As said on skysports today

No torres
No gerrard
No goals
No points

Liverpool just didn't look like they had anyone to drive them on. Raga got it wrong playing a 3 5 3 line up and if he played Jay Spearing as gerrards replacement it was either a big mistake or shows the lack of depth in the Liverpool squad.

I watched Spearing playing for liverpool's reserves against the clarets and I wasn't over impressed with him. He spent most of the game snarling around and arguing with the ref

As for the big red beachball, reina had plenty of opportunity to clear it off the pitch but didn't

LMFAO

****, what a depressing effort that was to watch last night ... We couldn't crack the Sunderland defence and were comprehensively outplayed!

I think there is some striking differences to last season, involving a host of players, that for one reason or another aren't giving the same output.

Forgetting the absent Gerrard and Torres for a moment, from last night's game:

Alonso - Massive loss, close to our best last season that went without replacement.
Mascherano - Staked a valid claim to be in our best 5 last season, not offering anywhere near the same (and not receiving the same game time)
Riera - Another to stake a claim for top 5 in 08/09 who's hardly fired a shot this season.
Arbeloa - A bigger loss than many thought, however the inclusion of Johnson offsets that.
Hyppia - Father time had certainly knocked on his door, but it he was still playing better at the back than any of Carra, Skrtel or Dagger .. I know there's some excuses/reasons among the current lads, but they would need to find form in a hurry.
Dossena - Missed a lot, offered little early last season, but along with Insua really provided that quality depth in the run home.

I think last night showed what I've thought for a long time, Liverpool's only players of that top shelf calibre are Gerrard and Torres, and whilst fringe players can contribute plenty of runs on the board, a team full of fringe players are nowhere near the same threat.

The midfield as JTC inferred really lacked of any pace, creativity and high level ability, massive job ahead for the Reds for the remainder of 09/10 .. I wonder if a missed Champions League place could force H&G to cough up ownership? (Im not suggesting we won't finish Top 4, but anyone thinking we're not in the thick of a serious battle for it is kidding themself)
