Christiano Ronaldo

Postby devilsadvocate » Thu Jan 31, 2008 8:49 am

I know a lot of people think he's an arrogant twat, but every time I see Man U play, Ronaldo does something that borders the impossible. Tonight he has scored a brilliant free kick from 25 yards that flew straight over the wall and dipped into David James' top corner. I think Isaac Newton is wrong, because if his theories about gravity had any substance, that ball should have flown over the bar.

The tricks, juggling, speed, passing, shooting, headers, ability to read the play and get into the perfect position time after time after time, not to mention the GOALS makes me think he's the one current player who has the potential to go down as one of the greatest of all time. Obviously time will tell and his ability to guide Man U to the treble and ultimately Portugal to a World Cup will be the real acid test.

Even when he doesn't play particularly well (acse in point - against Spurs in the FA Cup on the weekend) he still seems to score or provide assists.

I honestly think he's better value to a team than Ronaldinho, Messi or Kaka.

Thoughts?

He wanted to come to play for Liverpool who only had 9mill left in the kitty to bid on him when Le Frog was in charge.
UTD bid 2.5mill more than Liverpool and the player is theirs......A bargain buy I must say for 11.5 mill.
I think he is about to/ or has just broken the record for most goals in a season from a non striker that matt Le Tissier held in 93 ?

He is a world class w****r but unfortunatly a world class soccer player who would comfortably be in the best 3 in the world at current moment. Would love him at West Ham

I love him..for the only reason he is my captain in the EPL fantasy comp that I'm currently leading ! 8)

That's ironic. A Derby fan leading the EPL fantasy league.

Kick Jewell out and put SJABC in instead. Now you have new moneybags backers you could replace the current squad with your fantasy league squad.

The arrogance annoys me, as does the team he suits for (also dislike the diving and his part in having a friend carded in the WC), BUT to my mind, he is clearly the greatest player in the world right here and now, his wizadry will ensure his name is mentioned among the all-time greats by the time (prob even before) he's finished IMHO.

Be interesting to see how Manc's fans believe the team would cope if they didn't have him .. RM?

As a united fan i would have to say he has clearly been the best player in the Premier league for the past season and a half.

however until he produces some consistent big game performances i dont think he will be rated in the same categorary as Kaka or Ronaldinio. However he does have time on his side and I'm expecting some big games from him in the latter stages of the champions league and Euro finals.

Thought he was pretty good in the WC, where every game is a big one*.

I think the fight was most likely between he, Kaka and Messi but I reckon Ronaldo's year (on top of his last one) compared to theirs, has him top of the pecking order ATM.

I don't even want to think about that mate. ;)
We would be a different team for sure as he is our go-to man. I know one man doesn't make a team... and Man Utd are a good enough side anyway but he scores a ridiculous amount of goals and usually brings his team mates into it.. even though this season he only has about 3 assists. No need to pass the ball when you can find the back of the net though.
Towards the end of last season he carried us to the title somewhat, like the game against Fulham when we looked destined for a draw until he scored an amazing goal with minutes to spare.
We would still win our fair share of games but we would not be the menace that we are right now.

As for most goals by a non-striker... the Matt Le Tissier record (I have not looked it up) may be just in the EPL as he is still just short of Best's United record for goals from a non-striker. He should catch that in the next month or so!

Yeah but big games are the matches against the other big 3 in the EPL and Europe... you can add international tournaments to that too.
He has done well against Arsenal but is yet to score against Liverpool or Chelsea. Kaka also showed him up in the ECL Semis last season too.
I have a feeling that could change this season though... he just has to learn to have a big impact when he isn't given a lot of space. He gets a paddock whenever he plays most EPL teams.

He is only a young lad and can still improve which is a scary thought for some but a wonderful thing to look forward to for others. 8)

RM, you've summed up the purpose of me starting this thread right there. Man U would still be top 4 as they have class all over the pitch (Except Evra!!!), but with Ronaldo, Man U should win the title, probably the FA Cup and IMO at least make the CL final. Without him, I couldn't see any of those 3 things being likely.

I don't mean to bang on about Spurs, but they're the games I watch, but the two games we played against Utd this year show the with/without Ronaldo factor. Without Ronzo, Utd looked very beatable (and had a certain cock-arse of a ref paid a clear penalty, we would have at least taken a point) and you'd have to say Utd were outplayed at Old Trafford for large periods of the game. Turn it around to last weeks FA cup match and with Ronnie, Utd looked solid through midfield, played with purpose, held posession and surprise, surprise, you know who slots a lazy 2 sausage rolls.

I expect more of the same tomorrow unfortunately!

OK boys, had to put up a few pics of the great man. He didn't have a great day today, but every time he went near it you thought it would end up in the back of the net.
