Round Up
Tiny Histon were handed an FA Cup date to savour after being paired with Leeds United in the second-round draw - a fitting reward for their 1-0 victory over Swindon on Saturday.
The proviso is that Leeds must first overcome Northampton in their first-round replay. But Histon will be winners in either scenario as the Cambridgeshire village lies only 52 miles from Northampton, making the fixture a local derby.
It is the prospect of hosting Leeds at their 4,500-capacity Bridge Road ground that thrilled the Blue Square Premier's smallest club, especially if they are chosen for live television coverage.
The £75,000 fee Histon would receive represents a quarter of the club's annual £300,000 budget.
Chairman Gareth Baldwin said: 'The publicity will be exceptional if it's Leeds because of the fact they are a monster of a club and we are a little village outfit. It will capture the imagination of the general public. 'They have enormous pedigree. It's not that long ago that they were in the Champions League semi-finals. Everybody at the club would be buzzing. If we get a TV game, it would be a big boost. We are pushing to get in the Football League and that could help us with one or two players to achieve that.'
Saturday's other giantkillers, Curzon Ashton and Blyth Spartans, were handed ties which offer the prospect of progress to the third round and a potential meeting with one of the Premier League giants.
Unibond First Division North side Curzon will not fear travelling to Blue Square Premier club Kidderminster after their 3-2 win over Exeter, and Blyth's reward for beating Shrewsbury 3-1 is a trip to Bournemouth, the team 91st in the League.
Havant & Waterlooville, who twice led Liverpool at Anfield in the fourth round last season, were beaten 3-1 at home by Brentford. Trailing 2-0 after 65 minutes to goals from Marvin Williams and Charlie MacDonald, Havant used the howling gale at their backs to mount a comeback.
Defender Ian Simpemba headed home and then, with nine minutes remaining, it required Brentford keeper Ben Hamer to produce an astonishing triple save to keep out three point-blank efforts. Brentford broke clear and Nathan Elder sidefooted in.
A last-minute goal from Craig Mackail-Smith gave Peterborough a 1-0 win at Ryman Premier side Hornchurch, and Kaid Mohamed's winner 15 minutes from time earned Blue Square Premier Forest Green a 1-0 win at Blue Square South side Team Bath.
