West Ham boss Gianfranco Zola remains hopeful of convincing defender Lucas Neill to sign a new deal with the club. The Australian's contract expired last month.

The big question here is WHY?

Totally agree, had enough of him and his money hungry, egotistic ways at the hammers. Let him go FFS.

ALONSO ASKS TO LEAVE ANFIELD

Xabi Alonso's Liverpool career appeared to be coming towards an end as he arrived for training on Thursday. The midfielder expects to hold talks with manager Rafael Benitez as Real Madrid are believed to be preparing a new, improved, bid for the 28 year-old.

And a club source has now confirmed that Alonso has submitted a transfer request, with the Spanish player having previously only told Benitez verbally that he wanted to leave the club.

Now if Madrid produce an offer of at least £28million, the chances are that Benitez will agree to sell the man he signed from Real Sociedad for £10million in August 2004.

Just one more price in the crazy world of football

BAYERN INCREASE RIBERY PRICE

Bayern Munich insist they will not sell Franck Ribery now their pre-season campaign is fully under way and have increased the Frenchman's valuation to at least 100million euros (£85m).

The playmaker has been linked with Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid, and was quoted as saying that he wanted to join the Spanish giants.

But Ribery remains at the Allianz Arena and Bundesliga runners-up Bayern are adamant that they will not sell their star asset, who is under contract until 2011.

It seems like every potential transfer deal involves City.

EVERTON REJECT £18MILLION LESCOTT BID

Everton have confirmed they have rejected Manchester City's latest offer for Joleon Lescott.

City contacted their Barclays Premier League rivals with an increased bid of £18million for the central defender - but the Toffees have turned down the offer.

Earlier this summer, the Eastlands club had a bid of £15million rejected, with Everton boss David Moyes insisting no player will leave Goodison Park this summer without his approval.

A club statement read: "We can confirm we have received an offer of £18million for Joleon Lescott from Manchester City and that offer has been rejected outright."

Burnley boss Coyle forced to play waiting game for winger Guerrero

Owen Coyle's plans to negotiate a deal for winger Fernando Guerrero have been delayed. The president of the 19-year-old's club Independiente del Valle is on holiday.

This guy would be a great pick up for the Clarets. He was on trial with Burnley for thier USA tour and was sensational. /fast, strong and can score goals. He was the captain of Real Madrids reserve team Real Madrid Castilla and had been with them for about 4 years so he has a spanish passport. will cost around £2m will may end up being a very good bit of business if we can land him. OK, not quite in the Ronaldo league, but a very good player all the same.

Personally, I think the Clarets have done some good business so far. They have already landed the Man U reserves captain and now might pick up the Real Madrid reserves captain, and whilst they will not compete with the likes of Pool, Man U and Chavski, they are buying realistically this year, holding on to as much of the £30m odd they will recieve.

KISNORBO BIG ON CLOUGH'S RADAR
Derby are keen to sign Australia international defender Patrick Kisnorbo.

The 28-year-old, a free agent after being released by Midlands rivals Leicester this summer, caught the eye as he played just over an hour of the Rams' opening pre-season fixture at Burton on Saturday.

What is it with Derby. Releasing 2 Aussies and after buying another. Are they in contact with you Jabber ;)

funny how Owen is coming out saying he has nothing to prove when he plays for man united, IMO i think he does he has been riddled with injurys and lack luster performances for newcastle i believe he has plenty to prove. IF he plays like his days at liverpool look out i say for the rest of the league

OLOFINJANA MOVE FALLS THROUGH

Seyi Olofinjana's proposed move to Monaco from Stoke appears to have collapsed after Guy Lacombe revealed a late hitch.

The Potters accepted an offer of £2.5million last week and gave the Nigerian midfielder permission to speak with Monaco. Monaco boss Lacombe has now revealed that the transfer was on the verge of being finalised before Olofinjana had a late change of heart.
