Bit of a glum starter, but the Irons are up poo creek without eve a canoe, let alone a paddle:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2009/aug/07/west-ham-united-owners-futureWest Ham United's owner was forced yesterday to admit to "significant uncertainty" over its own future, plunging the future of the club into fresh doubt.
Insolvency managers for the collapsed Icelandic bank, Straumur – which owns the Hammers through its parent company, CB Holding – have so far failed to reach agreement with a committee of key creditors over what is owed to whom. Only when that is settled can Straumur executives' plans for a "composition agreement", over how to manage the insolvent bank's assets, even be put to the vote.
Under Icelandic law the courts will liquidate Straumur, holding a firesale of its assets such as West Ham, unless the composition agreement can be concluded before 11 December. And after yesterday's meeting in Reykjavik, that looks more distant than ever.

Excuse me for invading your round ball corner but thought I'd pass on this rather dreadful news that's just come up about a West Ham player...sorry to be the bearer of bad news but...
I wish the lad and his mum a speedy recovery.

Press Assoc.
West Ham United footballer Calum Davenport and his mother have been stabbed in an attack at their home.
The 26-year-old defender is undergoing surgery on both legs after being set upon at his family home in Bedford.
Police have launched an investigation and his injuries have been described by doctors as "serious".
West Ham released a statement on the stabbing which read: "West Ham United can confirm that Calum Davenport was being treated in hospital on Saturday afternoon after an incident late on Friday night.
"The 26-year-old defender and his mum both suffered stab wounds at home in Bedford. His mum is recovering while Calum underwent surgery this morning and his injuries were described as serious by doctors. The club's medical team are in contact with hospital staff.
"The thoughts of everyone at West Ham are with Calum and his family and, due to the ongoing police investigation, no further information will be released at this time."
The 26-year-old is a former England Under-21 international, who cost the Hammers £3million when he joined them from Tottenham during the summer of 2007.
He did not figure in West Ham's first game of the season, at Wolves last week.
Bedford-born Davenport spent a spell on loan at Premier League rivals Sunderland last season and has also been loaned out to Watford.
The centre-back started his career at Coventry and has also played on loan at Southampton and Norwich.

That's really sad, thanks for posting JAS. Callum Devenport is an ex-Spurs player and a good lad by all accounts. Not sure what's gone wrong here. Sounds like a case of mistaken identity.
On another fairly sour note, West Ham and Millwall have been drawn in the next round of the Carling Cup. This will be a proper shitter of an affair, one which will kick off left right and centre.
Apparently the Spam and Millwall had agreed 3,000 tickets for away fans, but Police stepped in and had that reduced to 1500.
A lot of Spurs fans are saying that there is a large element of the Millwall hooligans that are planning to come out for this game, which is really sad. Hopefully the old Bill pulls in every bobby they can to prevent carnage on the streets as Millwall fans are an utter disgrace and need to have their hands held everywhere to prevent anything kicking off.
For anyone not quite up with just how bad this rivalry is, this is the story behind the making of Green Street Hooligans. Although that story was fictional, this matchup is how that movie starts off.
Sadly a number of each set of fans have been killed in the past. Fingers crossed it doesn't happen again.

You're welcome DA.
Had a quick look for any news of how the lad is today and this seems to be the latest. He's stable but serious and two arrested for it...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/8216650.stmPolice probe footballer stabbing
Two men arrested over the stabbing of West Ham footballer Calum Davenport and his mother at their home near Bedford are still being held in custody.
Mr Davenport, 26, had emergency surgery on both legs following the attack early on Saturday. He remained in a serious but stable condition on Sunday morning.
A 25-year-old was arrested in Derby on suspicion of attempted murder and was being escorted to Bedford, police said.
A second man, aged 19, was arrested early on Saturday in Bedford.
He remains in custody, suspected of being involved in causing grievous bodily harm.
Police said the mother and son were set upon in the early hours in Springfield Avenue, Kempston.
West Ham said its thoughts were with the player and his family.
It is understood Mr Davenport's 49-year-old mother, was recovering. Her son is being treated at Bedford Hospital.
The former England under-21 international defender joined West Ham for £3m in 2007.
He moved to the east London club from Tottenham, who are playing West Ham at Upton Park later.
He had a spell on loan at Sunderland last season and has also played for Coventry City. He also had loan spells at Norwich City and Southampton while at Tottenham.

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-storie ... -21624022/Doctors confident they can save footballer Calum Davenport's leg
Stabbed footballer Calum Davenport received a boost yesterday after doctors said they are “confident” of saving his leg.
The West Ham player is making a good recovery and was moved from intensive care to a general ward.
It was feared the 26-year-old Premier League defender may lose his left leg after being stabbed several times on Saturday.
A main artery was severed in the attack, allegedly carried out by his pregnant sister’s boyfriend Worrell Whitehurst.
Calum’s family, who are keeping a bedside vigil at Bedford Hospital, were said to be “over the moon”. A friend said: “Calum’s doing really well.”
Calum’s mum Kim, 50, who was also injured in the attack, has been discharged from the same hospital.
Whitehurst, 25, from Derby, is charged with grievous bodily harm.

Thanks again JAS. Great news for Callum, but it is feared he will never play professional football again.
What's wrong with people these days? Why would you go on a stabbing rampage at your missus family's house? The guy must be a complete nutter and should be locked up for a looooong time. I bet he'll get off real light.

Yep the guy is a bit mental. Should be thrown in jail for a long, long time. Was it jealousy maybe? Is that why he stabbed him in the legs (knowing full well he is a professional footballer)... to do that at his missus' family's house is unbelievable.
He won't play football at a high level again but should be thankful if the docs manage to save his leg.

Hoping the hammers can at least get a point tonight and start to string some points in a row.
Really struggling to see the point in it all at the moment. West Ham are putting faith in a few young lads such as Collison and Hynes and reaping the rewards. BUT once again as soon as the transfer window opens up we are likely to lose both of these to the bigger spending clubs.
West Ham forever bound to be between 6th in the EPL and the top 5 of the championship.

Well the Hammers managed to avoid being bottom at Christmas. In every season bar one, the team that is bottom at Christmas is relegated, aqccording to Sky, so it's bye, bye Pompey

West Ham found guilty by FA but Millwall are cleared after violent Carling Cup tie West Ham and Millwall have both been cleared of charges of racist abuse by their fans but the Premier League side has been found guilty of two other offences of breaching Football Association rules.
An FA independent disciplinary panel will decide on West Ham's punishment on Friday in relation to charges brought following crowd violence at their fiery Carling Cup match with Millwall in August.
Millwall have been cleared of all charges, however, and West Ham have also been found not guilty of a further charge relating to missile throwing
Hammers are likely to face a heavy fine and nothing more. Personally I'd be happy if they were docked 6 points
