The January 2010 Transfer Rumours Thread

Postby devilsadvocate » Tue Dec 01, 2009 1:17 pm

Wtih the mid season silly season almost upon us, I thought I'd start a transfer thread for Jan.

To kick off, here's an interesting look at the fees made by agents on player transfer deals from each club:

Source: Sky Sports

City the biggest spenders to agents.

The Premier League has revealed clubs paid £70.6million to agents from October 2008 to September 2009.

It is the first time payments to agents involving Premier League clubs have been disclosed and covers the last two transfer windows.

Not surprisingly big-spenders Manchester City top the list having spent over £12million to agents after bringing in the likes of Carlos Tevez, Emmanuel Adebayor, Joleon Lescott, Gareth Barry and Roque Santa Cruz in the summer.

Chelsea are the next biggest spenders forking out over £9.5million to agents.

Liverpool were third on £6.7million with Tottenham next in the list spending £6.1million.

Reigning champions Manchester United only spent just over £1.5million to agents in the same time period.

Premier League new boys Burnley spent the least of the 20 clubs, laying out just £468,000 in agent fees.

The FA welcomed the publication of the fees paid to agents.

An FA spokesperson said: "We are pleased that, through these new requirements, clubs are bringing greater transparency to the domestic transfer market.

"For the first time, there will be a game-wide picture of the level of spending on agents. The leagues and other key stakeholders have been fully supportive, following the example set by the Football League with its publication of Agents' Fees over the last few years."

The full list is:
Arsenal - £4,760,241
Aston Villa - £1,708,374
Birmingham - £974,982
Blackburn - £1,610,885
Bolton - £3,166,611
Burnley - £468,398
Chelsea - £9,562,223
Everton - £2,008,407
Fulham - £1,469,258
Hull - £1,599,188
Liverpool - £6,657,305
Manchester City - £12,874,283
Manchester United - £1,517,393
Portsmouth - £3,184,725
Stoke - £716,042
Sunderland - £2,007,040
Tottenham - £6,066,935
Wigan - £5,527,548
West Ham - £3,576,972
Wolves - £1,235,703

Obviously Citeh and Chelski are right up there, but Man Utd is an interesting one, as is Wigan. I am also trying to recall, who have Liverpool purchased since Oct 08 resulting in such high agent payments?

Some big money is being touted around as the transfer rumour mill goes into overdrive.
Chelsea look to make a £45m swoop on star, the Arsenal boss sends out a warning, Manchester United and Everton chase a wonderkid, Sheffield United have struck a deal with Newcastle United and a Chelsea stars wants £80,000-per-week.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has made signing Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery his top priority and is ready to pay a British record £45m for the Frenchman and make him the highest paid player in the Premier League.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has warned the rest of the Premier League that Abramovich may go on a spending spree in the January transfer window.

Manchester United and Everton are trailing 18-year-old Antwerp midfielder Geoffrey Hairemans. The Belgian teenager has already spent a week training with United.

Sheffield United defender Matt Kilgannon, 25, will join Newcastle in a £2m deal in the New Year. The centre-back's arrival is likely to hasten Fabricio Coloccini's departure to Spain.

Middlesbrough boss Gordon Strachan is closing in on a deal for French striker Olivier Giroud, 23, who plays for Tours in the French second division.

Paul Gascoigne has returned to Newcastle in a bid to reignite his coaching career. The former England and Newcastle midfielder is working alongside Peter Beardsley at the club's Academy.

Arsenal's record signing Andrey Arshavin has admitted he did not want to play football in the aftermath of Russia's failure to qualify for the 2010 World Cup finals.

Carlo Ancelotti says he wants to stay as Chelsea manager for the next 20 years and build an empire just like Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger have done at Manchester United and Arsenal respectively.

Sven-Goran Eriksson has demanded the immediate payment of a seven-figure sum of money he believes he is owed by Notts County's owners Qadbank Investments.

England midfielder Joe Cole, 28, is reluctant to open contract talks with Chelsea until he hits top form in order to secure a bumper deal of over £100,000-a-week. Cole's current £80,000-a-week contract expires in the summer.

Chelsea are rumored to be offering Atletico Madrid 100 million pound for Sergio Agüero and 250,000 pound a week.
The problem with Barcelona is that I like fish and chips but they had to turn it into calamari and patatas

Nope, they have contested the descision/hearing happens in mid March so the ban doesnt come into play untill the descision is made and only if they are found guilty so in otherwords this maybe there last window till june 2011.

I will be pissed if they get Ribery, not only is the man a superstar but he has already said he didn't want to move to England due to the weather after United showed interested.

Also with Aguero, he is already cup tied anyway and has said he will probably have to leave his beloved Atletico but only at the end of the season as the cash will help them a lot. So Chelsea (if successful in their big) will loan him back to them until the end of the season.

I wouldn't be surprised if Chelsea do throw the cash around due to the transfer window ban even though that could end up being overturned anyway, tis a pity they are allowed to buy in January.. it would be nice to see them not be able to purchase for a while as they are strong enough already.

Hopefully United spend some coin but very rarely do big transfers happen in January.

on the comment of arshavin not wanting to play football after russias world cup exit, i agree you can see it in him at the moment. he looks lithargic, laboured etc whilst playing lately. Looks bored and being sort of lazy

Manchester United want Manuel Neuer - Agent

Stefan Coerts, Goal.com wrote:Highly rated Schalke 04 shot stopper Manuel Neuer has been linked with reigning Premier League champions Manchester United and the goalkeeper's agent has now confirmed that United are interested in signing his client.

"I have read the reports about Manuel and a possible transfer to Manchester. I can confirm that United are interested in securing his services," said Thomas Kroth to Sport Bild.

Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, is reportedly looking for a replacement for the ageing Edwin van der Sar, who could retire in the summer of 2010, and Neuer is one of the main candidates to replace the Dutch goalie.

Schalke are being plagued by financial trouble and the Gelsenkirchen side are widely expected to cash in on their star players either in January or in the summer of 2010.

Earlier reports suggested that the Gelsenkirchen side had set a €25 million asking price for Neuer, but an offer in the region of €15 million is now believed to be enough to lure the glovesman away.

Manchester United admit interest in Edin Dzeko

Gill Clark, Goal.com wrote:Manchester United assistant Mike Phelan has admitted that Wolfsburg’s sought after striker Edin Dzeko is a player who appeals to the Red Devils.

The Bosnia international has been linked with several top clubs after a stunning season in the Bundesliga last year and he has continued on the goal trail this season having already bagged seven league goals.

Although the 23-year-old has insisted he will not leave the German club in the January transfer window, speculation surrounding his future refuses to disappear, with Arsenal the latest club to have been linked with the forward.

However, Phelan, who will come face-to-face with Dzeko on Tuesday night in the Champions League, has conceded that the Bosnian would fit perfectly into the Premier League.

“I'm sure there are numerous clubs looking at him,” he told The News of the World.

"Are we one of them? We are looking at talent all the time and we are in there with the rest of them.

"He showed his threat in the game at Old Trafford and he appeals because he is a tall, skillful boy and in some ways an ideal player for the English league.

"He has stature, his feet are good and he is producing some very good performances.

"I am sure everybody has looked at him. I don't think it is a surprise [because of] what he has done."

Joe Cole is probably the only person.

I'd love to sign Dzeko but would rather us sign a playmaker though Anderson has been in good form lately.

Jack Wilshire on loan to Burnley from Arsenal. Providing he gets some 1st team game time and after judging what we had on offer on Sunday I would think he could slot straight into our midfield
