Players you've been impressed with this season

Postby devilsadvocate » Fri Jan 15, 2010 9:13 am

OK, bit of a left field thread, but here goes. Which players have you been impressed with this season?

My list:

James Milner - he gets better every game and should command a starting place in South Africa. He's already getting an ego to match Terry, Cole, Lampard etc by waiting until after the world cup to agree new terms at Villa.

Darron Gibson - his goals against Spurs and in the CL were outstanding. Definitely looks like a player.

Craig Bellamy - after initially being horrified at the thought of Harry Redknapp signing him, I'll concede that he's been one of the leagues best this season and certainly Citeh's best performer.

Rodallega - Although inconsistent, I think he's a quality player.

Nicko Krajcar - Signing of the season. for 2m, he's been a revelation.

Joe Hart - Birmingham will be hoping to sign him permanently. Class act and should feature in goal for England.

Andy Reid - although they've struggled recently, Reid was behind a lot of the good form shown by the Black Cats at the beginning of the season.

Lee Bowyer - Has been on fire at Brum. Although he's a complete prick, he's been excellent this year.

Vermaelen - it's a pity he's at the scum. He's great going forward, but a little suspect defensively. However for 5m (I think) he's been a great signing.

Anyone got any others?

Ried has been a bit hot and cold for me, but agree with the rest of your list DA

Bias I know but both Eagles and Mears have been outstanding for the Clarets

Bugger - I forgot about Eagles  . He has been excellent. He should have had a LOT more starts than he's had. Perhaps Laws will rectify that.

I think his asthma might have something to do with it. But that's just a rumour round these parts.

I noticed you didn't include Defoe or Modric

Defoe's been great, but terrible away from the Lane (Hull game excepted).

Modric has been injured since the start of Sept.

I guess I should have mentioned Aaron Lennon though - what a player. He'll be sorely missed for the next month.

I like how many Liverpool fans on Sky Sports have been complaining about their injuries and how that's de-railed their season. Well Spurs have had Ledley King, Jonothan Woodgate, Luca Modric, Jermaine Jenas and Aaron Lennon (all of whom are world clasee with the exception of Jenas) out for extended periods and look where we are. LOL@Liverpool - scraping the bottom of the barrel!

Patrick Kisnorbo - A rock in defence. IMO, Our best player from what i've seen.

Jermaine Beckford - Goalscoring machine. Hopefully all the talk about him leaving doesnt disrupt the team too much

Nice one. I'll add Hangeland in there too, and how have we let this thread get 8 posts old without mentioning the Schwartz?!!!!!

Ryan Shawcross from Stoke is having a blinder of a season. He'll be at a new club by Feb IMO.

Gerrard and Torres alone are better than that lot mate, but you're right, we're certainly not the only club to have felt the sting of injury ... Arsenal have had their share as have your mob as have Man U, everyone gets them!!

We have little to complain about when we sign a bloke with existing injuries that we already know can't play for a few months.

James milner for Aston Villa, fantastic player this season and has been the key well one of them for villa this season.

Cant go past Song for the mighty gunners, has improved inleaps and bounds from last season. Has slotted well in the mid field and picked up the slack when fabregas has not been there.

Drogba, well he just continues to score and score well
Defoe, i have been spreading rumours about him leaving spurs as rumours are spread about fabs moving on from arsenal but he has improved also from pompey to the spuds.

murphy, has also improved at fulham this season and is playing the best in his career at this point in time.

Donovan- everton he played fantastic against us gunners last week, dont know how long he has been in the side but he was fantastic and carved up traore in the game against us

On the flip side.
Players that have been under par

Berbatov- his body language and his hot head have led to unimpresive performances for man utd and wouldnt be surprised to see him transferred asap by fergie, also owen, scored a great hatrick for man utd in a championsleague game but thats all he has done,oh and he scored that late winner against man city which was well after the allowed stoppage time.

toure- man city he has just fallen away since leaving the gunners.
cant think of anymore off the top of my head
