EPL Soccer Comps Season 2010/2011

Postby johntheclaret » Sat Jul 10, 2010 9:35 pm

I planned on running the same two comps, the "weekly tipping" comp and the "where will they finish" comp unless anyone has any other ideas.

Connie, I'm more than happy to take up the mantle this year and keep tabs.

Usual prizes on offer fella's, a shirt of your choice and an open invitation to a match in the box at Burnley.

Same rules apply, for the tipping comp, pick the results each week, 3 points for a correct score, 1 point for a correct forecast only this year each player will have one joker pick where there will be 10 points for a correct score and 5 points for a correct forecast :D

Same rules for the "where will they finish" comp. Pick the top six and the bottom three and during the Jan window you can change one from the top six and one from the bottom 3, but remember, you can only do a straight like for like swap. Same points, 3 for predicting the correct finishing place for each team and 1 point for predicting the correct teams in the top or bottom.

I also thought we could do a slaughter comp similar to the SANFL comp. There will be mystery prizes for each comp winner throughout the year (I'll sort them all out at the end of the season and keep tabs of the comps and the winners)

So go for it lads (& lasses)

Nice work JTC!

Will wait until just before opening day (whish is pretty close!!) to see all the ins/outs.

Citeh should crack the top 4 this year and Liverpool may not feature in the top 6 again as it stands.

is it that time of year already.......

is the joker a weekly option?

I like the slaughter comp idea and i would have that set up in a way that all 3 results are equal. could go through a few of these slaughter comps throughout the year.

A weekly joker might be a bit difficult to manage mate
I was thinking of either a single game or possibly a single week but with split rounds in the EPL even that might prove a tad hard
Slaughter comp definitely

For the weekly tipping comp, why don't we piggy back the EPL site and do predictions in our own league?

It would reduce the burden for you mods by not having to tally up scores each week.

We could just put up progress tables.

Just an idea.

Must admit I have selfish ambition with this.

When I inevitably get banned again soon and spit the chewy for another 2 months, I'll still be able to tip!

Personally I would rather keep it in house. Two reasons really, a) I think that it has more interest when it is in house, take last season for instance, and when it is one of those sites, we tend to lose track of it. I think the tipping comp barely gets a mention when it is running and even less on the ladder. b) It encourages folk to visit this forum, and thry might just look arou make a few posts.

Oh, and purely a selfish reason, I just don't bother going on the tipping site so I will be out of the comp from week one. DA, I'll post your tips for ya whilst you are banned mate. You can always email them to me ;)

But as always, I'm happy to go with the majority.

Sorry MT, I didn't really answer your question, yes agree totally, you have to pick the result, win, draw or lose. No points for scores etc.

Maybe a comp to far but I thought about a divisional Champs comp. Easy to run as all you have to do is pick who you think the champs will be from each of the 4 proffessional divisions of the English league.

Simple scoring method. The champs get 10 points, then 1 point is deducted for each place down to 10th. Any selection finishing below 10th earns you "nil ponts". So for example you r EPL pick was Arsenal and they finish 4th, you would get 7 points, and so on through the divisions.

Simply make your selections before season kick off and w will tot them up at the end of the year (playoff's not included). The tipster with the most points wins a mystery prize.

I'll get admin to put a sticky up guiding eveyone to the comps, like Wedgie did last year so they are easy to find. Wedgie........ ;)

No problems RE keeping it in-house, if you guys are happy to taly the scores, then brilliant. I agree that it will create more traffic and banter.

Actually, that isn't a bad idea MT. Only in reverse, where the winner starts with minus 25,, 2nd starts with minus 20, etc, like a handicap.

We should think about this  ;)

I agree jtc. It's alot better on here and it's more exciting. I'd forget about it after only a few weeks if it was done through another site.
