Not the best start to a new season thread but........

KELVIN ETUHU CHARGED WITH ASSAULT

A Premier League footballer has been charged with wounding and assault after a fight outside a casino.
Kelvin Etuhu, 22, on the books of Manchester City, will appear in court next month.
The six-foot midfielder, who spent last season on loan at Cardiff City, is accused of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and wounding with intent, after an incident outside Manchester 235 Casino in the city centre on February 27.

Speaking of Man City, many would tip them for a top 4 this season, or even, dare I say it, a threat to Man Utd and Chelsea for the title. I've been thinking about it, and personally, there is a danger that they will "implode" this season and finish at best 5th or 6th. The problem City have is attracting players who would want to play for the shirt and not just for the pay check.

City are not one of the fashionable clubs. If you look at the top 5 or 6, you have Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs, all london based outfits that have the bright lights to attract top players, with Arsenal having a long history of success and Chelsea who are the toffs of London. Then you have Man U and Liverpool in the north, and whilst their location might not be as attractive as the capital, they also have a long tradition of success.

So what do City have to offer. Simple, money. They are not a fancied London club and they have no success to fall back on. This is a receipe for attracting gold diggers, who aren't really interested in in anything other than collecting thier weekly barrow load of dosh. Not really a good reason to instil a team ethic or a desire to win at all costs.

Say what you like about Man U and Fergusson but they excel in team ethics and their never say die attitude is world renown.

City to finish 6th or 7th. probably 6th on the basis that Villa won't improve.

Agree 100% with that JTC. Way to many ego's.
Way too many 'I want what he's on' numpties.

Take Bellamy (sp). He's on 80k. Which other club will ever pay 80k for him. Sure he was good last year, but not 80k p/w good.

Compare that to Gareth Bale. He was getting 16k per week. That's been upped to 50k.

None of the big players (Robinho's an idiot, so I exclude him from this call) are willing to go to Man Citeh. It's only 2nd teir players that know they cant crack into a Utd, Chelski, Barca, Milan etc. So they chase the coin.

Surely as a player, you'd rather earn a bit less and go for glory at a smaller club like Arsenal, Liverpool etc, where there's a history of success and a chance of winning something one day?

By all accounts, Citeh have 37 senior players on their list, which must be culled to 25 ahead of the 1 Sept deadline.

That leaves players like this lot potentially out in the wilderness for the next 6 months:

Bellemy
SWPhillips
Micah Richards (Who Spurs ITK are currently saying is a done deal to come to us, however I think ITK should be called IDK)
Stephen Ireland
Santa Cruz
Bridge
Lescott
Viera
Etuhu
Jo

If I was in charge of Blackpool, Wolves, Baggies etc, I'd be getting the loan papers out!

Not just that mob, I'd love to nab a bloke like Ireland .. SWP would most likely be welcome too, and of course I'd welcome Bellamy back just because I've always had a soft spot for him

Agreed. SWP wouldn't fit at Spurs as we have Lennon, but Ireland and Bellamy would be great additions.

Apparently Spurs enquired about Bellamy, but Citeh want 12m quid for him from us. They then turned around and offered him to Cardiff for 6m. Wankers.

Adebayor hints at City exit

Striker not willing to play second fiddle at Eastlands
..Emmanuel Adebayor has revealed he is prepared to quit Manchester City due to his limited first-team opportunities.

The former Arsenal striker returned to the City team for the Europa League victory against Timisoara on Thursday but could be warming the bench against Sunderland on Sunday if new signing Mario Balotelli recovers from a knee injury.

The 26-year-old has slipped down the pecking order at Eastlands, playing just seven minutes of City's opening two Premier League fixtures, and reports have linked the forward with Real Madrid and Juventus.

Adebayor insists he is willing to battle for his place at City should he stay but says he will 'definitely' leave if an offer comes in.
"The season is going to be very long and very difficult for myself," said the Togo frontman. "I'm a footballer and have to keep going and not give up. I need to keep fighting for myself and enjoying my football.
"If you're in a team and you're not playing, and there is a team that comes in for me, then I will definitely be on my way out because I'm a footballer and I love playing.
"If I don't have a chance to play here, there will be a lot of chance to play somewhere else. If they [City] force you out then you always have to follow your destiny."

Adebayor would not be the first big-name forward to depart City this summer if he leaves before the end of the transfer window.

Craig Bellamy has already moved to Cardiff, while Robinho and Roque Santa Cruz also look set to leave the big-spending club.

City of course can afford to keep Adebayor despite what the player may want.

I saw a similar story on ssn.
On what planet does adebaywhore think that if he doesn't make the grade at citeh, that he can go to real Madrid?
Would be a great signing for juve. But I wonder what those racist fans who make monkey noises the whole time would do?

Take him to their hearts mate. Monkey business is for away teams only.

I am so sick of reading crap about Tevez.

The amount of times he has said he is sick of football and wants to retire is ridiculous despite the fact it has made him famous and wealthy. Now he wants a transfer? I was disappointed when he left United now I'm glad the sook has gone.
