Blackpool, the remaining top-flight club in this section, were taken to extra time after being held to a dramatic 3-3 draw by MK Dons at Stadium:MK.Going out in extra time

A near full-strength Blackburn progressed courtesy of a memorable hat-trick from on-loan striker Mame Diouf.
The powerful frontman, at Ewood Park from parent club Manchester United, was too hot for the Canaries to handle - defender Jens Askou grabbing a late consolation for Paul Lambert's men.

Roberto Martinez grabbed a much-needed victory at Victoria Park as his Wigan side progressed thanks to an early own goal from Pools centre-half Sam Collins and second half strikes from Jordi Gomez and Victor Moses.

West Brom also avoided an early exit thanks to goals in either half from Pablo Ibanez and Chris Wood against Leyton Orient at the Matchroom Stadium.

Brentford reached the third round for the first time since 1991 with a shock 2-1 win over Hull City at Griffin Park. The game looked destined for extra time after Robbie Simpson had cancelled out Mark Cullen's opener but Marcus Bean snatched a dramatic late victory for the Bees.

Elsewhere, Brian Laws' Burnley fought back well from a goal down to overcome Morecambe 3-1 at the Globe Arena.
Phil Jevons put the Shrimps in front on 12 minutes before Chris Eagles levelled matters and second half goals from Steven Thompson and Kevin McDonald sealed the win.

Lancashire rivals Preston were taken to extra time by Bradford at Valley Parade after Jake Speight struck eight minutes from time to cancel out Paul Coutts' opener.
However Keith Treacy grabbed the decisive goal in added time to send Darren Ferguson's men through.

Ipswich were also taken into extra time after playing out a 0-0 draw at Crewe. David Norris' strike 11 minutes into added time put the Tractor Boys through.

while a late penalty from Steve Howard saw Leicester win an all-Championship battle with Leeds 2-1 at Elland Road.

Millwall also saw off competition from the same division as Steve Morison and Liam Trotter saw them to a 2-1 win against Middlesbrough.

Sunderland made light work of League One Colchester at the Stadium of Light, with a brace from Darren Bent seeing them to a 2-0 win.

Stoke overcame Shrewsbury 2-1 at the Britannia Stadium, with Jon Walters and Tuncay Sanli on target for Tony Pulis' side.

Bolton negotiated a tricky trip to Southampton without any mishaps, as Ivan Klasnic's solitary strike sent their supporters home happy.

West Ham left it late before putting plucky Oxford to the sword, with a last-minute effort from Scott Parker edging them through.

Cardiff opted to rest Craig Bellamy for their trip to Peterborough and paid the price as Craig Mackail-Smith and a dramatic winner from George Boyd saw the Posh keep the lower league flag flying with a come-from-behind 2-1 win.

Scun.thorpe marched into the next round with consummate ease, as Michael Collins, Michael O'Connor and two goals from Chris Dagnall shot down 10-man Sheffield Wednesday 4-2 at Glanford Park.

Swansea looked to be heading for a shock defeat away at Tranmere at one stage, but two quickfire goals from Cedric van der Gun and Scott Sinclair and a stoppage-time strike from Shefki Kuqi cancelled out Enoch Showunmi's opener.

Championship Watford saw their hopes ended at the second round stage, as a fantastic free-kick from Ben Davies and a first of the season from Kevin Smith saw Notts County to a 2-1 victory.

Wolves were pushed all the way by plucky League Two side Southend, but came through in the end as Richard Stearman pounced seconds from the end of extra-time to spare Mick McCarthy's blushes.

Portsmouth and Crystal Palace, who had Wilfried Zaha sent off in normal time, played out a 1-1 draw before Pompey came out on top in a nail-biting shootout.

Watched Accy v Toon last night. Stanley were good although the Toons were mainly youngsters and reserves. How Vuldic got away with a blatant elbow to the face of the Accy lad with the ref in full view only two yards away, I'll never know. BOG the Toon keeper

was only carling cup but gives other teams hope that they are beatable. but they had a very depleated side but so did other teams .
