You can read all about it there.
The short is - in 2002 Wimbledon FC where owned by a Norwegieen who was looking to off load them, they found a buyer and he moved the team from south London to Milton Keynes about 100 km away, changed the name from Wimbledon FC to MK dons.
it took a campaign and boycotting from wimbledon fans who had formed afc wimbledon for mk dons to return 88 fa cup to wimbledon council. This will be the first time the two teams will face each other
real interesting read cheers for the Ducey!!
A part i found interesting and didnt know was how unsuccessful the move to Selhurst Park was. Wimbledon FC had no other option due to the Taylor report and lack of funds, Selhurst was clearly the best solution yet there was still an element unhappy. Maybe if the fans embraced the Selhurst Park move the original Wimbledon FC could still be around.
Would be interesting to know how many original Wimbledon FC fans support MK Dons as dropping the Dons section of their name seems pretty logical.
Similar situations on obviously smaller scales is currently happening in the SA Amatuer league, with long time established clubs struggling like most for coin and new clubs in built up areas propping up quicker than you can keep track off.
This one has got me thinking aboutthe current Cardiff City situation, which would be pretty hard to handle.
